trump bragging about passing a test designed to test whether he has dementia. Also the "word remembering" part of the test is meant to use unrelated words which "person woman man camera tv" are obviously not. |

Over 4 million cases, over 2 million active cases, 146K+ deaths, 1205 new deaths yesterday, Many Southern and Western states now closing in on the previous centre of the pandemic New York in terms of cases. Where is this going to end? It's a total lottery which state you are in regarding any sort of action being taken, in short a complete shambles and Trump is to blame for most of the current situation. For goodness sake don't let the USA start regular flights to here or anywhere for that matter.

Trump said that a year ago he asked former White House physician Ronny Jackson whether there was “some kind of cognitive test” he could take, he said, “Because I’ve been hearing about it. Because I want to shut these people up. They’re fake news. They’re making up stories.’”
Trump went on to explain the test, saying that after several questions, the doctor returned to the list of words, asking Trump to repeat them. “And you go, ‘person, woman, man, camera, TV.’ They say, ‘That’s amazing. How did you do that?’ ‘I do it because I have like a good memory? Because I’m cognitively there.’” The list of words that features on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, the test Trump is referring to, is “Face, velvet, church, daisy, red.” ![]() |

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits has risen for the first time in 15 weeks.
Some 1.4 million people have applied in the last week. While the number is still under the peak of 6.9 million in late March, the data suggests that any recovery in the labour market may be running out of steam as coronavirus cases continue to climb and will add pressure on congress to pass another round of stimulus. According to the BBC's North American business correspondent Michelle Fleury, the level of claims suggests many workers are being laid off, in some cases for a second time. Efforts to reopen the economy after businesses shut down to help contain the pandemic have been bumpy, she says. Several states have imposed new restrictions on bars and restaurants as coronavirus cases have gone up. And the tens of millions of jobless Americans making a claim may soon see a sharp drop in their benefits. If Congress doesn’t act, extra unemployment payments worth $600 (£473) a week will run out at the end of the month. |

^^^ As I said above, the list of words are meant to be unconnected. So this means that trump either cannot recall any of the words used in the test or he was given a list of clearly related words to make it more likely he would remember them.

Dr Tony Fauci estimate of 200K deaths was dismissed offhand by Trump when the total deaths were around 30K. That Fauci figure could be chicken feed the way things are going. The active cases figure is already over 2 million and climbing by 30-40K per day.

President Donald Trump has cancelled the Republican party convention in Florida, citing the pandemic, as US coronavirus cases passed 4 million.
"It's not the right time for that," he said, adding that he would still give a convention speech in a different form. The sheriff in Jacksonville warned this week the city was not ready for such a party jamboree next month. The event was relocated from Charlotte, North Carolina, after that state imposed social distancing rules. Although the Jacksonville events have been called off, some delegates will still gather in Charlotte. Mr Trump told Thursday's White House coronavirus briefing that safety was his primary concern behind the decision. At that event, the president will formally accept his party's nomination to be its standard-bearer in November's presidential election. Opinion polls suggest Mr Trump is facing an uphill battle for a second term in office amid criticism of his handling of the pandemic. Last month, the Democratic convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, also due to take place in August, was drastically scaled back. Mr Trump's challenger, Joe Biden, will be formally nominated by his party at that event. In a video released on Thursday, Mr Biden and his former boss, ex-President Barack Obama, poured scorn on Mr Trump. They highlighted his deflection of blame back in March - "I don't take responsibility at all" - when asked about delays in Covid-19 testing. "Can you imagine standing up when you were president, saying, 'It's not my responsibility?'" Mr Biden, the former US vice-president, asked in their "socially-distanced" conversation recorded last week. Mr Obama replied: "Those words didn't come out of our mouths when we were in office." What is the national picture? The US is recording an average of 2,600 cases per hour, the highest rate globally, according to a tally by Reuters news agency. On Wednesday, California passed New York - the former epicentre of the US outbreak - for the most confirmed cases with 409,000. On the same day, Missouri, North Dakota and West Virginia all broke their records for the most new cases in a 24-hour period. Alabama, Idaho and Texas also reported new record highs in daily deaths. Across the US on Wednesday, a total 69,707 new virus cases were recorded |

A Democratic strategist involved in their conference planning said: "I wonder who will have the better convention - the party who recognised the limitations early on and have been planning for a mostly virtual/digital television production to capitalise on a prime-time audience of millions, or the clowns who keep moving theirs from place to place and have no concrete plan a month out."
