https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/why-spore-has-relatively-low-covid-19-death-rate
Patients with Covid-19 are faring far better in Singapore than in most places in the world, with 26 deaths out of more than 42,000 infected. Experts say this is because the vast majority of those infected are young and healthy workers and because the healthcare system here has never been overwhelmed, so patients are all able to receive the best care possible. Foreign workers living in dormitories account for more than 90 per cent of all cases here. Being younger and healthier, they have generally suffered from a milder illness. ^ UK and USA health care not over run either. Difference is people who caught it were older. |

While President Donald Trump obsesses about his reelection hopes in his White House bubble, state and local leaders are frantically reversing state reopenings that he demanded, which turned America into the world's biggest coronavirus hotspot.
As emergency rooms filled and the virus quickened its relentless march across southern and Western states, Trump stuck to the fiction that the worst is already over: "We had to close it down; now we're opening it up," the President said of the economy at the White House, patting himself on the back for saving "millions of lives." As new cases of the disease reach 60,000 a day nationwide, many leaders, including those who supported Trump's aggressive approach, now have little choice but to prioritize science over politics, leaving the President looking out of touch with reality. In Texas, Houston's Democratic Mayor Sylvester Turner proposed a two-week shutdown, days after Republican Gov. Greg Abbott raised the possibility of more stringent measures after issuing a mask wearing mandate that offended conservative orthodoxy. West Virginia called time's up in bars in the worst-hit county. |
|
By:
In California, Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the closure of all indoor restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, zoos, museums and shut all bars. Los Angeles and San Diego said their kids would start the new school year online only. Oregon banned gatherings of more than 10 people inside because of an "alarming rise" of Covid-19 cases in the state. KFC encouraged franchises in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and California to stop dine-in service.
Florida, which on Saturday set the record for any state in single day data on new infections, now has more Covid-19 cases than all but eight entire countries. The picture is of a nation that is beginning to shut down again in defiance of the President's triumphant but misleading claims that a "transition to greatness" is under way. Restrictions imposed on cities as large as Houston and Los Angeles could set back the surprising revival in the economy last month. |

real votes tonight
Three states with vastly different electoral profiles are holding primary elections on Tuesday: Alabama, Maine and Texas. The marquee contests include a Republican primary for Senate in Alabama in which President Trump is pursuing a personal vendetta; a Democratic primary for Senate in Maine whose winner will take on the only Republican from New England in Congress; and runoffs in Texas for the Democratic Senate nomination and two Texas House districts that are expected to be tossups in November. |

A NY judge has lifted the restraining order that barred Mary Trump from speaking publicly about her new book, per her attorney @BoutrousTed. He says the First Amendment "forbids prior restraints because they are intolerable infringements on the right to participate in democracy."

Confirmation that Johnson is following his masters orders ......
The US president praised the UK's decision, saying: "We convinced many countries, many countries - and I did this myself for the most part - not to use Huawei, because we think it's an unsafe security risk. "It's a big security risk and I talked many countries out of using it. If they want to do business with us, they can't use it." |

Don't worry about that - the hospitals are now to send the death and infection numbers direct to trump's administration and be placed on a hidden database - the virus will surely "go away" now as he predicted.

The Trump "rally" in Tulsa Oklahoma is being blamed for a marked increase in Covid cases in that state. Today 1075 new case were recorded, a new high. Amongst them is the State Governor Kevin Stitt who helped organise it and claimed "I'm so proud of how we've handled it this far," he said of the state's response to the pandemic.

Tim, I keep trying to tell you this. In 2016 the polls forecast Hillary Clinton would win the popular vote. She did, by three million. In 2016 only one state result was outside the margin of error of the opinion polls, Wisconsin.

trump cronies love themselves a bit of gubment money
A top Trump administration health official violated federal contracting rules by steering millions of taxpayer dollars in contracts that ultimately benefited GOP-aligned communications consultants, according to an inspector general report set to be released today https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/16/medicare-chief-rules-publicity-contracts-365482 Also presumably the IG is set to be fired just like anyone else questioning the supreme leader's cadre. |

Laying Trump at current odds is bet of the century. .... "but but 2016 .... " say the ill-informed
|
|
By:
Yes, he is still a very poor price.
2.86 would be fair price IF the polls in some of the swing states were not only as wrong as they were in 2016, but also if he managed to close the gap in the next few months by a fair few points (to perhaps a +4/5 national average). Seems to be some sort of assumption those 2 things will happen. I can't see why they would be thought of as likely, when the high majority of people know who they're voting for and have a firm unmovable opinion of Trump. |

Creating a conspiracy within a conspiracy the elites again
Trumps stole all the data, no one knows the real numbers which we didn't to begin with because it was data anyway, but Trumps stole and is hiding it in the basement of the white house See how childish all this is? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
They've not been giving actual data (hospital data) for weeks anyway ffs
They've moved away from all that when they were starting to get rumbled esp in the US I can't wait to see who steals the data over here, Priti Patel has it hidden in her dress most probably ![]() |
