Dave lets look at Singapore just for a moment.

The majority of people infected there are young migrant workers.

They have a very good testing and tracing system.

Currently 1 person is critically ill. 46k people have tested positive and 26 people have sadly died.

26 people out of 46,000 is on in every 1769 people infected dying not the 1 in every 100 (Ferguson) or 1 in 200 (German study).

IF (and it is a big if) the numbers in America testing positive now are a similar demographic to Singapore then 20% of the US population could get infected (60 million people) and there would be around 30,000 deaths. Tragic but nothing like the numbers we have seen from locking down the young and allowing Covid to rip through carehomes etc.

From a macro management point of view the biggest mistake by governments from Spain to France to UK to Sweden to State Governors in USA was not protecting those most vulnerable to actually dying.

Have you been to Singapore to see it?

Singapore has moved to extend restrictions to combat coronavirus until early June, as the number of cases in the city state exceeded 9,000 due to a growing number of infections in its crowded migrant worker dormitories.

While Singapore had drawn worldwide attention for what was seen as its success in containing the early stages of the outbreak, a new and quickly expanding second peak of infections has underlined how easily the virus is able to return.

The tiny city-state has the highest number of cases in south-east Asia, a huge increase from 200 infections on 15 March, when its outbreak appeared to be nearly under control. About 3,000 cases have been reported in the past three days.

26 deaths in 46,000 cases.

Just shows if younger people get infected no great problem.

Big point being missed.

Every country barring the USA ended their first wave? Ok not Brazil but they’ve never even tried to handle the first wave.

The USA didn’t come close to ending their first wave nationwide before reopening. Why? Because of Trumps rhetoric, pressure put on governors and lack of belief in this virus. In a few states it happened but doesn’t really matter if across the country it hasn’t.

No-one is asking for people to isolate or lockdown forever. But removing restrictions before wave A is even close to being over, sorry but Trump holds the responsibility for that even if he states ‘I take no responsibility’ as the president.

New York will not get a '2nd Wave' because 20% already had it.

Places like California, Texas, Melbourne and Florida shut down too early. They had to reopen because there were no cases but the result of reopening was an increase in cases because barely anyone had had it before.

In the end all countries/states will have issues. Places like the UK and Italy suffered more because of lack of early testing to detect it.

HOUSTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized a privately built border wall in South Texas that’s showing signs of erosion months after going up, saying it was “only done to make me look bad,” even though the wall was built after a months-long campaign by his supporters.

The group that raised money online for the wall promoted itself as supporting Trump during a government shutdown that started in December 2018 because Congress wouldn’t fund Trump's demands for a border wall. Called “We Build the Wall,” the group has raised more than $25 million promoting itself as supporting the president.

Former Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon joined the group’s board and Trump ally Kris Kobach became its general counsel. Kobach is now seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Kansas.

The company that built the private section in January, North Dakota-based Fisher Industries, has since won a $1.3 billion border wall contract from the federal government, the largest award to date.

The section in question is a roughly 3-mile (5-kilometer) fence of steel posts just 35 feet (10 meters) from the Rio Grande, the river that forms the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. That’s much closer to the river than the government ordinarily builds border barriers in South Texas because of concerns about erosion and flooding that could violate U.S. treaty obligations with Mexico.

Trump tweeted Sunday in response to a ProPublica-Texas Tribune report that the riverbank has started to erode. A federal judge on Wednesday ordered attorneys for Fisher Industries and opponents of the private wall to set a schedule for experts to visit the site and inspect any erosion.

“I disagreed with doing this very small (tiny) section of wall, in a tricky area, by a private group which raised money by ads,” Trump wrote. “It was only done to make me look bad, and perhsps it now doesn’t even work. Should have been built like rest of Wall, 500 plus miles.”

I do not think New York will get a '2nd Wave' because 20% already had it. This hypothesis is backed up by this study which no one have countered as far as know.
https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.27.20081893v3.full.pdf

I have not seen a country/state where more than 21% show anti-bodies. If you have please post. London, New York, Stockholm and the Diamond Princess all topped out at around 20% of the population.

Places like California, Texas, Melbourne and Florida shut down too early. They had to reopen because there were very low numbers of cases but the result of reopening was an increase in cases (in my opinion) because barely anyone had had it before. The amount of people in the population prone to getting the virus was still high.

In the end all countries/states will have issues unless they stay isolated until there is a working vaccine. Places like the UK and Italy suffered more because of lack of early testing to detect it.

Interesting study although I do not think it is a state or a country. It is basically a village.

This part was interesting....

'15 percent of those who tested positive for antibodies had been aware they had contracted the virus, further underlining the high rate of infections with no or mild symptoms.'

Fauci easily the most impressive member of the Covid team. When the total deaths was around 30K, he forecast it could be 200K. Trump was adamant deaths would not reach 60K. It currently stands at 137,873 and rising.
