Odds now down to 6/1, getting 19% in the last proper poll and many people I talk to here seem to be voting for them.
Bizarrely it also appears that Labour supporters (and there aren't that many outside the Town centre) will be tactically voting for the Anti Europeans.
Todays unscientific poll from the Daily Echo is as follows ...
Lib Dem 21.9% Conservative 21.5% UKIP 17.9% Labour 11.8% Others 4.9% Will not vote 22%

Pity Farage decided to swerve this, otherwise with the latest double-talk from Clegg over Lord Rennard, he might have gone close. It's possible many Lib Dem voters will abstain in disgust, and Labour voters move tactically to UKIP, as you suggest.

I dont see why not. Italy has just followed the uk political path and just voted for a comedian. It's a shame we have a duo comedy act called cameron & clegg

I think they wanted to look "inclusive" by having an "ordinary housewife" instead of the Eton and Oxford 40 year old male. May have backfired, "ordinary" people don't share the same views as the Cabinet. |

She wasn't picked for her national appeal. She was the candidate at the last election and lives in the town and that's why she was picked. She's campaigning on local issues and is straight talking (whihc is why she is avoiding the media)

I think all but the real tribalists accept it is a lame duck anyway. A defeat ( especially if 3rd) will prove it, and dave or gideons days are numbered. |

The conservatives may be more ruthless than appreciated.Certainly they wouldn't have sleepwalked into the mess Gordy took Labour into and an accomodation may be reached with UKIP by getting rid of Cameron and replacing him with David Davis,I certainly hope so.

Call it neanderthal if you want, but the fact is significant amounts of the electorate are fed up with the EU, liberal attitudes to crime, excessive government spending, uncontrolled immigration and the Human Rights Act. The politicians just might have to adapt to what the electorate want. While Eastleigh was bad for Cameron, it was also a disaster for the Left. |

If the Tories do swing towards a pact with Ukip it is difficult to see either Cameron or Boris Johnson working with Farage. I don't think they are quite daft enough to go for IDS again and David Davis is getting on and made a bit of a prat of himself with that resigning stunt. Dominic Raab may be in for a very rapid rise from obscurity ( and hopefully an even quicker one back there ).

How so?Labour slightly increased their percentage from the GE,and the seat is way down on their target seats.Tories 2nd in the GE and targeting the seat strongly finish behind UKIP.Only a true blue rinser could see the result as being worse for Labour than the Tories. |

Come on TT. If by the "Left" you mean Labour, They were no-hopers at the outset, and despite a clown of a candidate marginally increased their share. It was a disaster for one Party, and one party only. The Tories think the Party consists of the City and their business pals; there are a plenty of tories on average incomes, pensioners reliant on savings who have been totally screwed; while Gideon and Dave have looked after the top rate tax payers. Dave's EC policy was hollow; nobody was fooled. That is why UKIP did so well. I still think they are too arrogant to take the message on board. |
