Running profit for May 23 pts - profit for April was 22.5 pts all at sp.

May is going out like a damp squib a bit like Sainglend yesterday. Firstly I was tempted to trade out after it was backed to even money before the off (didn't) but after it took up the running three furlongs out I did think it would out stay the others (didn't).

More routine stuff today :-

4.10 Ayr - Kathlatino 1pt win

This looks a match between the selection and last year's winner Ykikamoocow who is greatly respected. It all hinges around whether you can trust Kathlatino's last run which it won after being dropped down to a mile. The second that day was reappearing after an absence so we cannot be sure it ran to it's mark. The time compared favourably to an earlier division so I will risk a  point at 3/1 as a reproduction should be good enough.

5.45 Folkestone - Bold Ring 1 pt win NOW DECLARED AS NON RUNNER

This horse has come down in the ratings and is now eligible to run in 0-60's for the first time this year. It has also been running on unsuitable ground over a trip too far. It is drawn well tonight to try to make all up the nearside rail. I am slightly concerned that tonight may not be the night as Sophie Doyle keeps the ride. She is capable but I would have thought the trainer might put someone more experienced up if the money was down and for this reason just a one pointer.


Other horses considered but rejected today were :-

3.10 Diman Waters - relying on old form and doesn't win enough.
8.15 Safarjal - bit too short as doesn't have much pace
8.35 Minnie Diva - interesting but form has been let down
8.45 Nazeem Alyasmeen - need to be near pace over trip at Folkestone and may leave it too late

Running profit for May 25 pts - profit for April was 22.5 pts

It would be nice to get the profit for May over 30pts and I have three days to try. Dropped two points yesterday but Ocean Legend was not disgraced at 25/1 and Lady Mango got a bit behind with the poor draw.

Some days selections just jump off the page and other they have to be eked out and these tend to be less successful I have found. It seems to be one of those days today unfortunately. But :-

4.00 Chepstow SAINGLEND 2 pts win

Ex jumpers contest this race and by far the best of them is Sainglend with a rating of 127 over hurdles and just 58 on the flat. As a guide you can deduct 50 lbs from a jump rating to give an indication of flat potential so it may be that 58 is lenient. The last run over hurdles at Aintree was a very good class three event.

Tek Kwon Do did well last time behind Alfraamsey which has won again since and Spinning Waters goes well here despite a poor effort over hurdles last time. These are the two to worry about but I would expect Spencer to make this a stamina test and grind out a win. A price of 2/1 is about right.


To be frank I can't really find much else today. I came close to putting up Aquilifer in the 3.20 at Lingfield as a number of these are better at shorter trips but I decided to pass - watch this win now !

I missed a lot of good racing on Saturday and caught up with the videos yesterday but I can't be the only one that thought there were just too many meetings. Why they put all of those on one day I will never know.

On a house keeping note we had a loser and a non runner on Friday and so a drop half a point in the profit total from Thursday.

On to today:-

4.15 Kempton - OCEAN LEGEND 0.5 pts ew

This is really competitive and a strong pace is guaranteed with April Fool likely to go off fast. Esprit de Midas,Cape Rock and Ducal all featured in a thriller here in April and they are hard to split. The one that stands out at the current prices (18/1 on here) is course specialist Ocean Legend. In truth he may be a little high in the wieghts but the good apprentice takes 7lbs off today so he is worth a small bet. He wasn't given a hard time  when behind Ducal here and is the value at the price.

4.45 Kempton - LADY MANGO 1 pt win

The Harris yard is in great form and the horses she beat at Lingfield last time have both run well next time out. The booking of Darren Egan means she runs off 58 which is a pound lower despite winning. I would have gone two points but the draw is a negative so still a bet but a more cautious approach. I expect 9/2
to be available.

Running profit for May 27.5 points - profit for April was 22.5 points

A good day yesterday with just the one selection as Porcini was a non runner. Hopefully any followers got better than 5/2 Primaeval but at sp this got us 7.5 pts profit. In truth it could have been better as I reduced the bet from a four point to a three at the last minute. I was also going to put up Miss Cato but changed my mind due to the ground and she went in at 4/1 - c'est la vie !

Not a great deal takes my eye today depite the number of meetings but I will risk a modest point as I always put up a bet so :-

4.20 Goodwood - Fanrouge 0.5 pt win - Noble Citizen 0.5 pt win

This race has an open look about it and I will take a chance with a couple of outsiders. Fanrouge is a bit of a Bath specialist but did ok at Newbury last time and was running on well over six in a listed event - she is currently 16/1 on here. Noble Citizen was an eyecatcher yesterday behind Primaeval but that was over seven. I do like horses turned out again within 24 hours and at 12/1 is worth a small play.

Running profit for May 20 points at sp - profit for April was 22.5 points.

Close but no cigar yesterday. Secret Destination went very close to beating the favourite and evens was available in the place market a few minutes before the off which was too hard to resist. I thought Alpha Tauri was just about home and what a brave effort nonethe less. Hab Reeh proved a profitable trade in the last.

Lots of choice today but just the following two for me :-

3.10 Goodwood - PRIMAEVAL 3 points win

Has form on turf and the all weather but is rated 8 pounds lower on turf. He hasn't finished out of the front two in his last five runs and has the speed to be produced late here. Has them all beat on form lines through Thunderball, Docofthebay and Global City and provided he gets the runs of the race should be good enough to win again. Bonnie Brae is the obvious danger and I considered a saver but she but may have been drawn well last time and want slightly slower ground (hopefully).

8.50 Salisbury - PORCINI 2 points win

This one finished strongly at Beverley last time - the second being a useful yardstick and if she runs to that mark should be good enough to beat Travelling who is a bit of an unknown. It looks a two horse race as Aliante doesn't look any good but should provide the pace.

The others that took my eye today all seem priced correclty at present.

No need to worry about calculating profits at sp after yesterday's results but thanks for the Betfair sp idea and this is something I will look at next month. Rebecca Romero went off at 6/1 yesterday but was 12/1 on here at the off which is a huge disparity or maybe it was just not fully wound up - who knows.

Fortunately I am still keeping stakes low but now that the ground is better I expect to be more confident of the form to be able to justify a bigger bet - not today though. We seem to have stuck at around 20 points this month and it would be nice to move forward.

A couple of races interest me today at Southwell:-


3.20 Southwell SECRET DESTINATION 0.5 pts each way

Was nibbled at in the market last time here over five furlongs against a Johnston hotpot and showed up well - the third has run well since at York. The ability to handle the track is essential here and the step up to six may help. Polski Max has yet to run here and is worth taking on at the price and I am happy to have a small bet here at the price (approx 7/1)

4.50 Southwell ALPHA TAURI 1 pt win - BOLD MARC 1pt win

Just can't make my mind up between Alpha Tauri and Bold Marc but it is not just a two horse race and a few others will have their supporters and help make the market. Alpha Tauri ran a really fast time last time but is up a furlong and that is the worry. Bold Marc can be forgiven his run on turf and was good the time before at this track.


OTHER THOUGHTS :-

4.30 Lingfield

I wanted to back Sweet Ovation but would prefer Hayley Turner on board so decided against it. ARABIAN FLIGHT may be an in running play and if it hits 50/1 will throw a couple of quid at it as it gets outpaced and finishes well.

5.20 Southwell

HAB REEH goes off really fast and races over six for the first time. It is possible he lasts to well inside the final furlong today and should trade considerably shorter than the 16/1 he is now.

Running Profit for May 25 points - profit for April was 22.5 pt all at starting price.

The win for Liliargh yesterday demonstrates the difficulty of showing profits at starting price as the sp was 6/4 yet 9/4 was freely available pre race bearing in mind I posted at 9.30am. It doesn't sound much but that would have been another 1.5 points !

3.45 Nottingham Al Jabreigh 1 pt win

William Haggas has his horses in terrfic form and this filly runs as if the extra furlong will suit. Tne run behind The Giving Tree at this course was full of promise and, via a form line through that horse, it should beat Shannon Spree. The Cumani horses tend to need a run so 7/2 Al Jabreigh seems ok.

5.15 Nottingham Raffinn 1 pt win

Another trainer in form is Sylvester Kirk and I think Raffinn will be good enough to win this following his good effort on the all weather last time. Bapak Pintar is the danger but this one never seems to get it's head in front and was disappointing last time. Unfortunately this horse has been put up by Hugh Taylor today which is frustrating as the price has gone to 4/1 but I will still stick with it rather than not put it up at all but reduce the bet to one point rather than the two I had originally decided upon.

6.30 Kempton Rebecca Romero 1 pt win

This is a wide open sprint but I will take a chance on the fitness of this one after a 217 day break as the trainer has had a few winners after bringing them back this year. It showed ability last year to beat Estonia who is talented but quirky and is well drawn tonight. The price is currently a tempting 12/1 so I will play it win only in case it needs the run and drops away.

Running Profit for May 24 points - profit for April was 22.5 points all at starting price.

Just a quick word re Saturday's selection - if you saw the ride given to Rewarded you will now know why I reduced my stake due to the choice of jockey. Those of you that played each way must have been gutted as he was clearly second best at least.

On to today:-

2.40 Redcar LILIARGH 2 points win

Not much of a price will be available on this one but it's not much of a race and the Cecil horse will probably be made favourite as it comes from that yard. The initial run of Liliargh looked promising but not spectacular but the winner has gone on to win again so the form looks better than it did. I am posting early today and don't know the prices but hope for around 11/4 as second favourite


8.50 Leicester LIKE CLOCKWORK 1 pt each way

There looks to be a blot on the handicap here as Bridgehampton has acheived a very low handicap mark running over shorter distancea as a two year old. I anticipate he will be odds on and this makes Like Clockwork good each way value. He ran really well when behind two future winners at the track first time up and then went on to win at Kempton impressively. He may not beat the favourite but to me is a good value bet around 6/1.

Estedaama did us proud at 6/1 yesterday. Profit for the month back up to 26 points but you can't please everyone can you !

Very competitive cards today and it is the sort of Saturday where you could lose a lot. The purpose of the blog is to make money not have fun gambling so , as no standout bets, stakes low again:-

2.45 Newmarket Democrates 1 pt win

This is tough but Democrates has a weight pull with Mince who looks to be the one to beat. He finished well from the back on his return over course and distance last time. Dark Ranger ran well last time but that was on the all weather and I wouldn't completely rule out Dishy Guru at a big price. However Democrates is the value for me at around 12/1.

3.05 Newbury Rewarded 1pt win

I was reaaly impressed with Rewarded last time and hopefully the step up in distance will suit but I am not a great fan of the jockey so will stick to one point. There are a number of dangers including Hajras but we should get around 10/1 which takes account of these.

Izzi Top got us back into the winners yesterday at 7/2 and for the first time I can remember the starting price went in our favour.

3.35 York - Come On Dave

This is not a bet but I am mentioning it as I intend trading this horse. You can get about 25/1 at the moment and it is a very fast front runner. Chances are it will get swallowed up in the final furlong despite the faster ground but I expect it to go shorter in running. This trade will not be incluede for account purposes but I just thought I would post an in running play. 

For the actual bets :-

3.55 Newmarket QARAABA 1 point win

A very competitive race but Qaraaba won so well last time I will risk a point that she is still improving as the odds look tempting at around 10/1. The form links in with a later bet.

4.45 York ESTEDAAMA 1 point each way

This horse did me a favour at Folkestone last time stepping up in trip. It is up in trip again today which is sure to suit as on both previous runs in has done all it's best work at the finish after coming off the bridle earlier.

5.05 Newmarket REACHFORTHEBUCKS 1 point each way

IF Qaraaba  runs well it will be a good sign for this one which ran behind it at Doncaster. The return to turf and drop back to a mile should be in it's favour and there appears to be a lot of early support for the Noseda horse this morning which makes ours a good each way play at around 8/1
