So, what leagues am I in, how much do you want, and when do we draft?
I'm a simple soul and can't keep up with all the changes (that and can't be bothered to read half of what is posted) So if some good soul can put me right then I will be eternally grateful. Yours in baseball Reg |

Sorry, Reg, this has all become a bit of a shambles and it's largely my fault.
You're in two leagues: Veterans (£25) - Drafting Wed March 21st 2:30 PM ET Auction Keeper (£25) - Drafting Thurs March 22nd 2:30 PM ET |

By:
Reg I entirely agree. O, I will send my money tonight if you let me know how much it will cost.

As above, Fen. Apologies for the mess!

O, I think it is down to a combination of factors, few of which are your responsibility. If the traditional auction had filled up then most of them would have been avoided.
I shall just play the keeper as I do every year in the auction, using players I have heard of as I don't have time to investigate the minor league affiliates. I might look at the rules at season end to see what the keeper element entails. |
|
By:
I'm still not playing unless I get that cookie. I'm getting kind of hungry so I may settle for half a cookie or something, but I'm not going any lower than that.
|

By:
No need to apologise O
Just remember when I offer you a lop-sided trade. That should sort it. Money on its way shortly. |
|
By:
Z, cookie on its way. Veggie and 'herbal'.
Fen, that works in Keeper leagues anyway. As it is, I don't think we're going with minor leaguers and massive rosters. Reg, ALL trades I make seem to be lop-sided ... and never in my favour ![]() |

I hope the people who dont seem to care what the rules are will genuinely accept whatever is proposed on their behalf. It takes less than 2 mins to answer the questionnaire. :)
Buckio - good question, personally I think adding $5 seems fair and I`d like to see no limit on how long you keep a player, could make very interesting trading if this was the rule, but thats just my opinion. |

- do we want keepers - no but OK if that is the will of the people
- if so how many - n/a - do we want minor leaguers - no but OK if that is the will of the people - if so how many - n/a - roster size - 23 + 2 DL / other suggestions - what we normally have - what kind of roster construction do we want - same as always (c,1b,2b,3b,ss,of,of,of,util + 9 pitchers) / new idea / as suggested in constitution - the need for a salary cap - same as always - pitching limits - 1000 min, 1400 max / other suggestions - 1000min, 140max - prize set up - 1st 50% 2nd 30% 3rd 20% / other suggestions - seems OK, perhaps an improver prize - waivers - last to use waiver claim has 1st pick / FAAB - last to use has first pick - ESPN (free) or CBS $160 league cost - ESPN free - Trades during offseason ? - if you like, preferably no one offers me a trade though - long term inbalance rule ? - don't know what this means, sounds like a benefits system for those of us who are hapless so YES |

- do we want keepers YES
- if so how many OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS - do we want minor leaguers NO - if so how many X - roster size - 23 + 2 DL / other suggestions AS NORMAL PLEASE WITH 1 EXTRA DL SPOT - what kind of roster construction do we want - same as always (c,1b,2b,3b,ss,of,of,of,util + 9 pitchers) / new idea / as suggested in constitution I WILL GO WITH THE MAJORITY DECISION - the need for a salary cap ? - pitching limits - 1000 min, 1400 max / other suggestions 1450 MAX(3 years on the trot I've hit the limit with 3 games to go, so this is purely a selfish personal thing) - prize set up - 1st 50% 2nd 30% 3rd 20% / other suggestions WHATEVER IS DECIDED BY THE COMMISH - waivers - last to use waiver claim has 1st pick / FAAB FAAB - ESPN (free) or CBS $160 league cost FREE - Trades during offseason ? >>For example if you have 3 high value players on the DL ...say all bought for $20+ but out for the year ...and you throw one back into the the FA pool (in order to release a bench spot if you only have 2 DL spots) it would be unfair if someone could pick that player up for $0 and stash for next year when if kept the price would be $5
Under what definition of the word is that "unfair"? |
|
By:
Youre thinking about increase of players values and them becoming unrosterable eventually mirrors my own thoughts. And as you say, you could get some great bargains which makes keepers interesting -
do you keep the high prospect you got for great value OR do you keep the "Pujols" type player at a high salary yes I think youre right about players maintaining there auction value for that season. Which is also why im against an in season salary limit, if someone wants to pick up a bunch of injured players and theoretically having an extremely high roster value I dont think its a problem at all. I think we HAVE to use FAAB values to determine keeper values for the reasons you said. yeah ESPN does everything apart from automatically keeping record of salaries, but im not 100% that cant be done there too. Either way paying $160 for purely this service alone isnt worth it when it can be done manually in about 30 minutes. |

It's a way of obtaining a valuable long term keeper for next to nothing and benefits the person at the front of the waiver queue ...
maybe that's not unfair and in a 1 year league is a valid strategy done it myself ...however picking up a player for $0 who has already been bought at auction for a $value seems more like "getting one over the rest of the league" to me ... not bothered either way ...I suspect when and if it it happens it will happen once only |
|
By:
Right, because, we all love dropping our long term keepers.
|
|
By:
yeah, we prob dont need to factor it in as a rule necessarily, if you do lose all 5 intended keepers to injury you have 2 dl and plenty of bench spots if you dont want to throw them out.
Its probably not a huge problem that we should be worried about too much. |
|
By:
It's an entirely hypothetical problem that runs a chance lower of an asteroid hitting in the next 20 minutes.
|
|
By:
well, it is 2012.....

Z, you asked why I thought it was unfair ...we have 2 differing views that's all ...sorry if this seems to annoy you - it's not designed to do so ...I suspect you're in the majority anyway so no worries on my part yeah, we prob dont need to factor it in as a rule necessarily, if you do lose all 5 intended keepers to injury you have 2 dl and plenty of bench spots if you dont want to throw them out. I tend to agree ...most will retain their DL'd players if they realise what could happen. As much as I hate FAAB I think that is the best way forward ...I would like to see FAAB used daily though ...I lost track last year as to when I could and couldn't ...playing around with the settings last night you can do so daily ...you can also have the transaction take place at 11AM eastern meaning you can get your pick up in before start of play when there are early kick offs. do you keep the high prospect you got for great value OR do you keep the "Pujols" type player at a high salary Agreed ...retaining your 5 $30 players plus the add on of $5 apiece leaves you with $85 for the auction ...be interesting at the end of season 1 what strategy people adopt |

If you lose all 5 players you intend to keep to injury chances are someone will have DL spots and will be willing to take the injured player in a trade so they can keep them the next year so the chances of keepers ever being flat out dropped is remote!
