Much as it's fun to go for it on 4th/1 at your own 20, I think the percentage is to punt. Manning's getting the ball even if you score, so you might as well let him have the ball first and then try to score as time expires.
I suspect forums are full of mugs who'd have gone for it though. |

If you get the yard you're not really much better off though Howie. If you would have stopped Manning's game winning attempt, you'd stop his drive and force a punt and still have time to score. If you wouldn't have stopped it, it's irrelevant.

Statistically proven to be more effective to go for it on 4th down.
However it hugely specific, going for it on half way is different. Do you have a power running game? how much do you trust your D? Given the field position punting was the right call imo. As the comms pointed out if they should have tackled Garcon. |
