Hi, my laptop spec says 1.73 ghz, ok some days i see 1730mhz, fine ok, but today it says 857mhz, and i have noticed other days it is 553 mhz. Why does this change and err, what does it mean, tyia.
When the puter starts up, see what frequency is shown (MOST puters show this info at switch on before the Windows logo shows).
If in doubt, Google your laptop model to see how you can go into the BIOS settings (it could be F1, F2, DEL or another key). Once you're in the BIOS settings, ensure your puter has the correct processer selected, the correct speed and frequency.

intel speedstep,it's just an energy saving feature....cranks up the MHz instantly when needed. you can disable it in the bios but i would'nt bother. AMD have something similar.
