I get quite a lot of messages from people asking about staking for trading purposes and also from people asking about where best to research horse form for in running purposes. Firstly the staking.
There are many ways of staking for trading purposes, the method I use is not a greedy one but one which allows us to green up all round in otherwords to make a profit regardless of which horse wins the race. The win stake is always 2 points, this is the biggest liability we have so we can never lose more than 2 points in any one race. The lay off stake is 3.35 points which would give you a 1.3 pt profit if matched. The other way is the same 2 pts win but a lay off stake of 3.05 pts which would give you an all green profit of 1 pt. Everyone backs with different stakes so lets assume 1 pt = £10, Example,
7.20 Clonmel, Van Wyck is one for us today, backed at 5.7 for say £20 (two pts) then lay off for 3.05 pts = £30.50 at 3.75, this would give you an all green screen after commission to the value of approx £10 or 1 pt.
The same using a lay off of 3.35 points or £33.50 would return 1.3 pts or £13 all green profit, the more you want to make of course the lower the price has to be so the lay off price will then be 3.4.
Finding horses form for in running. There is only one place to go for this and that is to Timeform, if you go to
