Say maybe we club together 1200 a man and 160 a month , we could buy something for around 6/7ooogns and have a bit of a laugh for a year. Only a idea as I said...I know a few good trainers who would look after us , and who knows we just might hit the jackpot...Any thoughts...
We'd have a budget of 12,000 so to allow for a couple of months training fees, gallop fees on Curragh etc ,I like to buy a sharp type , in the 7,000 bracket, no point of late maturing sort, no fun in that .Keep it for the year then if all goes well we'll sell and become millionaires . I'll have a word with Johnny Murtagh or Mick Halford re training . Expecting the catalouge anytime from Tatts.....

Just recieved the catalouge this minute ,amazing the way this sale has progressed over the recent past , a quick glance at the first 4 in the sale and the amount of black type on the damside is startling, I remember having seen many a horse at this sale without ANY black type in the pedigree .Some studying to be done .

I analysed the Goresbridge breeze-up catalogue a few months ago. Black type in catalogues is misleading imo. I prefer ratings. That sale had little of interest but they still had six figure sales.

Michael OCallaghan is a young man with a good eye,you could get him to buy and train this potential flying machine.
I'd probably be alone in not ever owning a horse so stuff like colours should be left to Workrider. My idea would be lob two grand in and treat it as dead,if the miracle happens we could emulate my gambling by reinvesting til its all gone.

Kincsem, ratings are only a therory imo , black type means you've DONE it ...How many highly rated horses fail to come up to their potential year after year ,but let us not divert from the thread , in this case opinions are welcome...

Wildmanfromborneo, I spoke to MOC at both Leop and the Curragh recenty saying as much to him, I like the type of 2yo he buys, seems like a nice youngman indeed...

I am told that Fallon is the reason behind the noticeable change in training methods this season. Horses are improving for runs instead of going backwards.
Wonks why buy some unbroken crooked legged donkey when our friend Philip has any amount of them down in Wicklow. I will even come onboard myself if you manage to get one out of his stable.

poor ozy, lowering the tone once again just to get noticed.id be interested tbh.ive been involved in ownership before and like wmfb says stick your initial investment in and write it off basically.

workrider You might put up a list of people who have expressed interest to see how many you have. I think you need about twelve paying purchase price up front, and then more for monthly maintenance. A yearling might never become a worthwhile training prospect so people will have to accept that possibility.

From recollection a bet between two forumites has rarely been organised successfully...I did have one with a guy on the Rugby Forum, a guy called Fresh or Freshman, May 28th 2011, it was. 500 quid..I lost....I hardly need reassure you, gentlemen, that the debt was swiftly settled.
Anyway, good luck, getting this venture off the ground, I will be very impressed if it comes to fruition.

Is Michael O'Callaghan any relation to Noel O'Callaghan out of interest?
I hope he realises what he has in store for him should he take this syndicate on board as new Owners
And that's even before Qatar Racing get wind of the pre-dispositions of the Yards new Owners towards their religion

Okay lads ,hopefully Ozy has run his course , getting down to business I spent a considerable amount of time working on looking up Sires that would be affordable , had a look at the following , Bated Breath (10) Born To Sea (14) Choisir (8) Clodovil (10) Dark Angel (5) Famous Name (5) so far . There are many others on the list ,so if anyone has a catolouge available to them and would be willing to help please pm me thanks...

good research Workrider Dark Angel would hardly be buyable at your price range as his covering fee that year was 27500 Choisir Clodovil and Capt Rio are all good solid stallions 7k budget turns into 8k after commission and vat. take an average of 1500 per month training fees (incl vets and farriers) by next April our steed is now standing at least 18k then the sun starts we name him and register him with HRI by the time we run mid may we are upto 22-23k so i suggest we all put in 2k upfront to cover until Ptown approx by which time we will have an idea where we are . as regards trainers i am very easy but maybe a cheap yearling in O Callaghans would be lost best of luck and keep us posted

Thanks Calling Card , your maths are fine , have seen many a big priced Stallions stock sell for little or nothing ,all about comfirmation , so as the Yanks say I'll take a rain check on that . A few more seem interested so I'll keep ye posted by pm rather than have certain people cram up the thread with crap. Kincsem have replied ...

good stuff stick with those that are interested and not get slagged off by w..kers a correct colt by a moderate sire is a better option to resell than a crooked one by a more popular one

As stated above your getting into double money before it hits the track,
Why not consider my suggestion and pinhook .
Like some of the guys say treat the initial investement as dead but this way theres minimal further outlay with a good chance of a return.
Im not sure about anyone else but i,d get almost as much satisfaction watching its career afterwards with very little risk other than a fatality or similar.

olddesperado, the whole point is having a bit of fun with it, sure the pinhooker thing might work , then again what if its lead out unsold!. Pinhooking is not as easy as it seems , I think you are forgetting the cost as well ,to get one to the sales costs money , so your outlay is increased . Maybe futhur down the line we'd go along that route...

Catch , Most was one of the worst G1 winners ever. Coolmore will hype him to the hilt , but anyone giving good money for his prodigy wants their head examined...

My Dark Rosaleen .. poem by James Clarence Mangan, if your up in dublin Wildman you could do worse than visit the grave of J.C.M. in Glasnevin , to be honest i couldn,t understand what he was saying in the poem except to think that Roseleen was Ireland of that time, Daniel O'Connell, Charles Stewart Parnell, Michael Collins, Éamon de Valera, and many others are Buried in Glasnevin. PS i did the tour of Glasnevin cemetary over a year ago -when we stop at Dev;s family graves;one of the women in our group lay Roses on Dev;s grave and another spit on the grave. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Clarence_Mangan#/media/File:Grave_of_Jam...

Just saw where 50+ Ballydoyle inmates are going to the Horses-in-Training sales ...some unraced , others rated from 50 to 100. Must try to watch out and see what kind of money they get. They're all bred in the purple but in many cases the gene mix didn't do what it was supposed to. Still the quality is there and a shrewd trainer will probably squeeze out a win eventually -if only in a claimer with a 7lb apprentice up.

Great to see you alive and kicking thegalwayman....Olddesperado might find it a interesting sale, I would never buy from them if AOB cant get them to win or progress what chance does anyone else. I would love to be able to afford one of the fillies though, its nearly impossible to get into that kind of bloodlines without the odd million or two in your pocket...

workrider I'm not sure how far you've got with this project but definitely count me in. Let me know how much you need up front and then every month and I'll send it across to you.
Listen though I'm only coming in on this if we have it contractually agreed between the pair of us that we're calling the horse 'The Bohemian'!

A few of you might know from another online forum I decided to go it alone. I bought a mare that failed to get in foal the last two years, but had the filly foal she was carrying when bought, and that will be a 2yo on 1st January. Then I bought a second mare in December 2018, she had the foal she was carrying, and she is now carrying a foal I planned. With luck she will have the foal in the spring.

It's a tough game but like myself I'm sure your loving every minute of it.
Sometimes at 5:30 am in the pitch dark and freezing cold I question whether I'm mad or not but then I'm off work early some days and I see them cantering across the field back in and it's all worthwhile whether I ever make money or not.
I'll freely admit it was about money when I started but now all I care about is each horse. Their welfare will always be the priority.

Things like that are the dream cmiyc. That's why all us bottom enders stay going.
Btw if the jp Henderson horse who is 1/1s wins the last at chelts tomorrow it's yet another black type winner in my youngest fillys page.
Impressive last time he will take all the beating although a decent race in fairness.
