Going to been some week of sport with Aintree and the best golf tournament of the year aswell,i always end up backing a few more in the masters than I would in any other tournament and this year will be no different, backed six guy against the field,
First selection is Rickie Fowler, his game is made for Augusta, with the exception of Phil you won't find a better chipper around theses greens, and he seems to have no fear when it come to the doc foot par putts either,
Second selection is Phil Mickelson, sadly I've missed the bigger prices quoted for him,his game is slowly but surely coming to hand since he's got a new swing coach, once he can cut out the silly mistakes unlike what he done last week,he won't be far away come Sunday night,
Third selection is Bello,he's been playing the best golf of his life at the minute, another great tournament by him last week were he'd a top five finish, and at the price he's a cracking e/w bet,
Fourth selection is Patrick Reed, solid tournament by him last week, would of been much closer but for his putts not going in,
Fifth selection is Brendan Grace,he's a player who seems to play his best golf when it comes to the majors,he's been a winner already this year, seems to me he way over priced,
Sixth selection is Jamie Donaldson, had a solid week last week, and seems another golfer who worth an e/w at his price,

Also done a trixie,
Grace top south Aftican player
Casey top English player
VJ Singh top senior player,

Selections
Fowler e/w 18/1 5 places,
Mickelson e/w 20/1 5 places,
Bello e/w 200/1 7 places,
Reed e/w 40/1 7 places,
Grace e/w 66/1 7 places,
J Donalson e/w 250/1 7 places,

Trixie
Grace top south Aftican 7/2
Casey top English 5/1
VJ Singh top senior 11/4,
Best of luck with your selections this week lads,

Will be watching the US feed on Setanta.

Good week to be a golf punter with all the books falling over themselves with EW offers.

Early fancy is Patrick Reed. 50/1 on the Sportsbook, 6 places.

Slightly disappointed myself with the e.w offers Apple.

PP 7, but 1/5 odds. BV 6, but 1/5 odds. That's tight. Coral 6, but you can get 6 with few firms most weeks.

Skybet 8 at 1/4 is very good, and have opened up another acc to get some on there. But not too much taken.

Jason Day is in the form of his life and his game is very well suited to Augusta. He is much better player in the heat of battle than when he finished 2nd and 3rd in this event a few years ago. 7/1 and excellent bet imo.

Phil Mickelson loves Augusta and seems rejuvenated this year since his change of coach. I thought the 9/1 about top American was more appetising than backing him in the outright market though. He looks sure to go well.

Matt Kuchar is very unlikely to win but he has a strong Augusta record and has played better than his results suggest this year. I thought he was a good e/w bet in the top American market e/w @ 30/1.

Lee Westwood is a similar player to Kuchar in that he is very unlikely to win. He is in terrible form but always plays well @ Augusta and the fast conditions will suit the veterans. I've backed him to finish in the Top 10 @ 16/1.

Good luck everyone.

Anyone betting on golf pre tournament is a million long term.
What I like about the golf is everyone seems to pick about 19 players and back all of them ew.
When one wins some week at about 28/1 , that's the only bet they seem to remember .

So far the money has been for Bubba , top 12/1 in most places after general 14/1 . Augusta traditionally suits the lefties too .

Some of the firms are offering places above the standard 1-5 . Sky are the best , with places 1-8 , and a quarter the odds , however they are below top price on 82 of the 89 runners listed on here .

PP making noise about their each way betting , places 1-7 --but sneakily 1/5 the odds for a place , and they are below top odds on 84 of the 89 listed .

Coral offering 1/4 odds for 6 places , and generally more competitive prices than Sky and PP , but they wont lay me 2d and I suspect I am not the only one in that boat , so their utterings pass me by quickly .

Some phenomenal prices on here for some decent golfers all capable of winning , picking out a few and hoping for an opportunity to trade might be the best option for someone looking for an interest over the 4 days excellent coverage .

Following up last nights post , threw a few quid on the following 4 players( who can all play a bit ) just for a bit of fun ( and hopefully giving a trading interest -- dont actually expect any of them to win , but hoping they play well ).

Kaymer ....340

Gmac ......380

Bradley ...440

Dubuisson .610

Not breaking the bank if they dont deliver something , but the Masters is a one off and a little wager or two makes it doubly interesting .  Bubba is my main fancy though .

good point but is in-play any better? bookies must have made fortunes over the years by punters lumping on the big names as they were doing well

then cleaned up when the likes of jim herman end up winning

I've stopped doing each way, as five places is not enough imo, if bookies offered eight places every event it would be more enticing,

picking a player to finish in the top five is almost as tough as getting one to win, and costs you twice as much. you are best off picking one guy you are confident in and backing him win only, I and I suspect most punters though don't have the patience to do that as the temptation is to have lots of other runners if your original selection bites the dust

Nearly always have a golf bet every week, can't say i'm a fan of pre tournament either, alright you lose the price and ew terms but personally prefer to have someone up there(even if for a hole or 2) for the weekend. I wouldn't be half as knowledgeable as some of the regular posters here or a big bettor on golf but as a medium it is a cracking Sunday if your player is thereabouts.

Fair point in regards EW,they are 150 man fields, often the books go 5 places on 20+ runners on horseracing so can see that point.
The odd thing is betfair places are generally worse than the place part of the books terms so something doesn't add up there to me.

Matter in hand anyway, who is going to win this? The Top 5 are taking up just over 50% of the market and no surprise if any of them win,gun to the head i'd be with Bubba as well.

Went the "Kelly" route myself and my 4 Hail Marys are,

Gmac as well 380
Justin Thomas 210
Shane Lowry 250
Lee Westwood 330.

Top weekend sports wise,GL with your picks.

I agree with him on Day.
Fantastic form , course form , winning form and majors bring out the best in him even before he was this good.

And decent price to boot.
Some media darlings would be half his price if teeing up in that form.

I've fancied him a while and have been nibbling but will have a good stab now and will double him with holywell for a major touch hopefully.

Perhaps Borneo would put his copious free time to good use and draft up a letter to Betfair concerning the removal of callits posts.  We could all copy it and bombard them with it by email to highlight the issue.

Borneo, would offer up a first draft myself but have a luncheon appointment.  Happy to edit and spruce up your draft though.  Thanks!

Phil has been bounding out of traps of late, and is surely worth a bet in the FRL market tomorrow.

Even in the WGC Matchplay, he was making birdies for sport in his opening joust. Hard to know what way the weather will play out. I feel Late/Earlies will have any advantage going. Phil is in the middle tomorrow, and it could transpire he misses the early morning rain, and gets the softest of the greens.

.8pt e.w Phil Mickleson FRL 25-1
