Kevin Kisner and Andy Sullivan have qualified for this week's U.S. Open by virtue of their placement in the updated Official World Golf Ranking. (OWGR)
The top 60 in the latest edition are exempt into the field of 156 at Chambers Bay. Kisner is 55th and it will be his second US Open, after missing the cut at Pinehurst last year. Sullivan is 58th, but the Englishman has never played in a Major. Oliver Farr and Shunsuke Sonoda were recent additions after Corey Conners turned pro and Michael Campbell retired. The final four tee times will be filled using the USGA's alternate system.

This year's U.S. Open certainly looks one to look forward to as the course looks pretty unique in comparison to where it is usually played. There's a chance it might turn it to a bit of a farce if some of the players are to be believed but hopefully the wind blows hard and provides a strong, links test. 5 selections for me e/w;
Henrik Stenson 28/1 Strong links record in recent years with 3 top 5 finishes in the last 7 years, Aims to peak for the majors nowadays in order to get that monkey off his back. Hideki Matsuyama 35/1 Excellent form this year with 4 top 10 finishes last few months. Finished T6 in The Open on debut 2 years ago. Brandt Snedeker 50/1 Putting will be very important this week and that is what Sned's excels @. In good form last couple of weeks so should be confident of a strong showing. Zach Johnson 80/1 Excellent form last few weeks with 4 top 20 finishes last 4 apps. Has also finished T6 and T9 in The Open last few years and another man with the putting game to go very well here. Massive price imo. Robert Streb 200/1 Streb seems to play his best golf on the seaside courses on the PGA tour so this test should suit him well. Another man who is playing good golf last few weeks. Good luck lads.

4 selections against the field.
Phil Mickelson e/w 20/1. Rickie Fowler e/w 20/1, Jim Furyk e/w 40/1, Tiger Woods e/w 66/1,

Koepka, Horschel and Kirk for me.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

By:
Justin Rose 18/1
Jimmy Walker 35/1 An Byeong - Hun e/w 80/1 Semi Finalist in US Open Amateur in 2010. Wentworth win shows he has bottle. Chris Kirk e/w 80/1 Long enough off the tee and decent putter and scrambler. Brenden Grace e/w 125/1 Good links player M Putnam e/w 300/1 Small punt on him. He has played the course i think 30 times. Probably money down the drain but local knowledge could be a big help on this track. Good luck with what you bet. Should be an interesting few days golf.

Hunter Mahan 100/1 Mentioned on here on the Colonial thread a few weeks ago. Season starting a turnaround after a slow start. A player with 2 WGCs and has a Top 10 at Augusta this season.
Danny Willet 125/1 One of the most improved players in the world in the last 2 years. Great form on links including recent Irish Open showing. Brendan Todd 150/1 Good temperament and excellent scrambling are going to be key this week. Adam Scott 45/1 With ball striking and imagination looking like key attributes I fancy Scott to get back into contention this week with Stevie Williams back on the bag. Another player that doesn’t get too flustered and that will be important this week.

It's 7 years since one of the greatest moments in sport, and its galling to see the hero of that hour trading at 110 on a track that looks like it was made for him.
Tiger holing that putt which forced the Monday playoff ranks up there with Roche, McGuigan, Dawn Run, Houghton and O Leary for me. If he could repeat the feat this week, I have no shame in saying it will take a while to dry the eye. Unfortunately, as the betting suggests, that is unlikely. Tigers travails aside, this must be one of the most intriguing majors of all time. Nobody, not even the players after practise, really know what to expect. What does seem clear is that, imagination, creativity, patience and temperament are going to be key. The Favourites Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth have long since dominated this market. Rory, the world number one, has had quite a successful campaign so far, but will want a major before the years end for himself to consider it so. I don't think this represents his best chance. Quite the opposite. With the greens promising to play lightning quick, and with so many undulations, I believe he will have too many 6-10foot testers for par or bogey, that he will not hole enough of. His high ball flight after long drives, will not be the benefit here that they are on more conventional tracks. With his greatest assets somewhat tamed, he looks too short. I had initially been keen on Spieth for this assignment. But the more I looked at the course the less enamoured I was with his chances. The key thing which finally put me off him, is the apparent likeness of the greens to Poa Annua. Jordan struggled on these in the early part of the year, and on more than one occasion stated he could just not get to grips with them. If his greatest asset is hindered, I don't believe 10-1 represents any value. Luck may also play a huge factor, and whether you are world number one or two, or 151 or 152, luck holds no favouritism. It just makes players 10s or under look a little to short this week. Ante Post I had only the one ante post for this, the same player I have backed for the British Open, Danny Willet. Willet has really come of age in the last year, and has shown our stateside friends on more than one occasion this year, that he is not to be dismissed lightly. Willets links record demanded that he was backed this week, and the early 200-1 represented terrific value. I topped up at 150s when the 6th place concession arrived. DW had a poor Friday in Ireland, but to his credit knuckled down over the weekend, to finish on the coat tails of the playoff. It is this attitude which may give him an advantage over some of his more illustrious opponents this week. Whilst the likes of Poulter will be whinging, Willet will just be delighted to be there, and making the most of what may be his best opportunity to ever lift a US Open. This Weeks Bets Since studying Chambers Bay last week, I have been very very sweet on the chances of Phil Mickleson. His performance of last weekend, plus his subsequent comments about the course only served to heighten my optimism. Phil takes time to come to the boil these days, and showed the benefit of each passing round last week. I believe he has now played himself into fever pitch, and whoever beats him will come mighty close to success. He will be licking his chops at the prospect of taming this beast, and showing the watching millions just what a genius he is around the greens. The pressure of wanting his Open so much may be a problem come Sunday, but Phil being Phil, it could just as likely drive him on. To me, he is certainly the most likely winner. Ricky Fowler is another player who will relish the challenge of something different. A superb links player, he has excelled in the last 5 majors, and his Players Championship win suggests he is now ready to win one. He was awesome in victory there, an absolute vintage display to take the prize, and if he can be as ruthless on Sunday, he will take some stopping. Bubba Watson, gives the imagination and creativity, but the patience and temperament are issues. But at 40-1, I think he is worth risking. It may be he throws the towel in after 9 holes, but I think there is an equal chance that he really takes to this venue. It will allow him play the way he likes, shape it this way and that. It looks to me like Augusta on links. Having backed Bubba at 14s for the Green Jacket, the 40s is just too big here. Only time will tell if this week is to be one for the bombers or the plodders, and like a big field sprint with no idea of the draw bias, it may pay to take a couple from both sides. Zach Johnson will be 50 yards behind Bubba and DJ on most holes, but that may prove no disadvantage. What certainly will help another former Masters champion is his superb scrambling qualities. He has been prominent in the British Open of late, and at 80-1 offers some value here. Brendon Todd has long been on my USOpen list. It is not your typical Open track this week, but its likely toughness can bring a player like Todd into the equation. He revels on tough tracks, and produced an excellent performance when defending at the Memorial. 150s e.w with 6 places, or a massive 240 on here are worth a tickle. Using the Augusta links theme again, I feel Shane Lowry can have an excellent week. He disappointed in the Irish Open, but maybe weight of expectation took its toll there. He had previously yet again been excellent at Wentworth, when only a poor Thursday cost him victory. Shane shows great imagination around the greens, and though like Rory he can be hot and cold with the putter, his price more than allows for this potential flaw. I have added Ernie Els as a late addition. H e has an excellent US Open record, an excellent links record, and his experience, patience and plotting may be more important than a hot putter this week. Its quite possible that nobody gets hot with the flat stick here. Top Country Markets Danny Willet at 11-1 looks a good bet. Donald, WW, Poult all have serious question marks over them this week, and Rose can be hit and miss on the links. Shane Lowry was 7-1 earlier in the week for top Irish. That was simply crazy!! Quite liked the look of Noren in Top Cont Euro, Els in top SA, and Leishman in top Oz aswell, so done some life changing multiples!! 3pts e.w Phil Mickleson 22-1 2pts e.w Ricky Fowler 22-1 1pt e.w Bubba Watson 40-1 .5pt e.w Zach JOhnson 80-1 .3pt e.w Danny Willet 200-1 .3pt e.w Danny Willet 150-1 .3pt e.w Shane Lowry 150-1 .3pt e.w Brendon Todd 150-1 .3pt e.w Ernie Els 175-1 2pts Willet Top English 11-1 3.5pts Lowry Top Irish 7-1 Sold Phil and Tiger on the Spreads at 33 and 53 respectively. Best of luck all, get plenty of drink in......its gonna be a late one!!

Ryan Moore had a fantastic amateur career and grew up in this part of the world. He's the home-town favourite and took last week off to smash in as many rounds as possible on this USGA set up. Moore's local knowledge should help him. He opened 67-67 at Memorial his last time out before finishing T18.
v Danny Willett up to No. 36 OWGR, this will be a big ask for the Englishman. T12 at Trump's new Doral on his first try and third in Match Play. Finished T6 last time out at Royal County Down, on a tough course - a wee bit like this week's venue, except there's no wind and here it's 7,800yds !!!

Yeah, the head is not the best today!!
Wide open still. Hopefully wind gets up a bit over weekend. Hopefully coverage picks up a bit too. Shocking last night. Only got to see a bit of Shane when everyone else was finished!! Nice round from him, one of the best from the later starters. Another 69 today would leave him in a nice position going into the weekend. Still think Bubba is too big. Granted he could have the worst of the weather, and will have the worst of the greens tonight, but I was impressed with him yesterday.

Commentators seemed to suggest they were playing a lot better than they looked, but they seemed to be bouncing all over shop on even 6 ft putts to my eye.
I say Rory could chuck it in if gets off to another poor putting start tonight. DJ prob too thick to remember what the 5th green was like, when he tees off on the 6th. Could be a help!! Would much prefer see Stenson win that DJ though. Shane is playing superbly tee to green, really enjoying himself. Cracking interview after his round yesterday, his attitude a lesson to the likes of Poulter.
Was disgusted at not backing Spieth pre tournament. Was the first name on the team sheet initially, and I left him on the bench. Shrewd!! Had a few quid on today, to give myself an interest, and because I really want to cheer for him. Class act. 7pts Spieth 3.4 Could be some serious swings over the next 30 odd holes. Be great if Shane can put himself in with a chance tomorrow.
