Some performance. |

Superb finish.
Had few quid at 2.62 outright when they were playing the 14th. He looked dead and buried when Jim was stiff on 16. Looked beaten in his last 3 matches. Resilient. |

...Think the winner will come from either Group 11 or 13. Group 11 looks a real Group of Death with Walker, Poulter & Simpson & Woodland. Group 13 Fowler, McDowell, English, Lowry I tink so 2 ![]() |

GARY went out to 9/1 around 4pm today (2 down to Willett on 4th or 5th at the time).

Woodland is 0-2 in this event having been ousted in round one in each of his first two appearances. He exited 4 and 2 in 2012 and suffered a 19-hole loss to Graeme McDowell in last year's edition. Woodland has one top 10 (T3, Sony) in nine PGA TOUR starts in 2015 and missed the cut in his last loop at the Masters. The 30-year-old faced a steep challenge getting to the round of 16 facing Jimmy Walker (19th), Ian Poulter (4/2) and Webb Simpson (19th) in Group 11.

Great to see a real world No. 1 doing it at the highest level a la Woods, Faldo, Norman doing his stuff.

Often wonder how someone like Paul Casey can become unwell in the few hours between close of play last night and this morning .
Dont know if it affected him this morning , did not see the restart . But with all the advisers , minders , entourage etc I would always think they should be healthier than the average Joe Soap . Anyone can pick up a bug , just unfortunate if it happens at a vital time . Rory running away with the final , just a question of getting home before the fatigue associated with a lot of tough matches kicks in . |
|
By:
they fly a lot, hard to stay healthy up in the air.

Golf channel to cancel coverage of WGC Match Play final in order to bring live coverage of the end of Tiger & Lindsey's relationship. |

Reportage is that they are both too busy in their respective sporting lives to maintain the recent relationship .

Now that Rory has consolidated his rating in one of the toughest arenas in golf , ie match play over a gruelling 5 days , looking forward to his reappearance on home soil from 28 May at Newcastle . Sure that he and his team will enjoy being at home for the week showcasing just one of our jewels of Iriah golf courses .
The spin off from this is hard to quasntify , immeasurable I reckon , tourism figures etc , well done the lad ( and JP plus , they sometimes have to take a bit of stick too ) . |

Interesting interview with Kimmage/GMac from last week for anyone that might have missed it
http://www.independent.ie/sport/golf/graeme-mcdowell-irish-northern-irish-briti****ll-people-im-irish-because-everyone-loves-the-irish-31171821.html Which of the 3 segments would you place Rory ? Rumours are circulating that MJ and Sir Charles have got their claws in again |
|
By:
Seldom see the Indo bit , dj , must look it up . Gmac has regressed recently though , reckon he needs to recharge his batteries with a few Ulster frys at home here , later this month that might happen . Marriage , fatherood , lifestyle all factors .
Cant address issue without research , suffice it to say for the present that I think Rory and his team have got things sussed , any hiccups from the past are exactly that , viz past history , walk away and forget it , put it down to inexperience . Happiest team out there now , I reckon . Good luck to all of them . History is exactly that , history . History is OK if you learn from it , Rory and co have I think . 26 today the lad , shades of Genghis Khan albeit tenuous . |

The lack of joy on here for his win his remarkable and telling.
Strange old tournament, the course looked dull, we didn't have the big names clash in the latter stages. |
|
By:
Just as well Gary Woodland didn,t win Ozy, i had the good fortune to back Rory at 3 different prices on betfair ;i thought my bet was down more then once, I dare say Rory will enjoy his 26th birtday today with an added 1.5 millon into his bank a/c.

lack of joy me a rse..a lot of people wouldnt be interested in a tournament with a format like that.
we've grown accustomed to rory winning regularly. I didnt watch any of it until the last few holes with furyk, i let a roar out when he drained that monster putt for the win. and i didnt bother watching the Woodland match, he was never losing that |

Backed him myself, Frank, despite my Vegas concerns. Re the prize fund, have Horizon got their 20 mill in full as yet?
Good luck to him, he's just not pulling at the heartstrings of the nation for whatever reason. |

Maybe come Brazil time next year with Shane might change a few minds Ozy.
|
|
By:
Maybe. Rory better bone up on the anthem because Shano will be giving it LARGE.

If it was Rory and Gmac representing Ireland , what does the team think would be an appropriate anthem ?
|
|
By:
Aye, and the next debate will be what fleg to unfurl should they win it.
Far too many complications, just leave these ****s out of it altogether and go with POD and Shane. |

Freddiek , I thought the format was good , the round robin aspect of it sustained interest in a lot of the groups until the final holes in the play off stages , even those matches involving zero scorers up to then .
Realise it did not suit some punters who did not know the rules properly and who probably wasted a few quid in running . The Yanks dont like match play , period . Our lads grew up on it , and it is a factor when it comes to Ryder Cups these days ( not pre mid seventies , when it took 10 years for the bigger ball effect to come into it ) . That is a fact of life , and the Yanks dont rule the world --although they would like to , keeps the oil scene suitable for them . Trouble is , some people expect Rory to win , expectation dulls down the joy slightly when you do win , Hurricane Fly is a good example of that , exploits largely forgotten now . Rory does not need any kudos ( although everyone appreciates praise ) , he has it sussed now . Fair play to him , but he is only 26 , not many of us had our lives well organised at that age . |
|
By:
Can't say fairer than that.

The thing is we compete in rugby as 'Ireland' not the 'ROI'..so the twin anthem thing is permissable. Fortunately Big Davy Tweed dd not insist upon a Big Red Hand being superimposed upon the white segment in the tricolour...if he had, he probably would have got his way....so the ROI flag is used.
We go to the Olympics as 'ROI' not 'Ireland' so doubt we will be allowed twin anthems or get away with saying to the IOC...pssssstttttt...Jacques...sthick on an auld cassette of the 'Mountains of Mourne' there if we happen to win the Golf. |

Just finished the Jack Kyle book , Ozy --- "Conversations with My Father: Jack Kyle " , enjoyable enough . Anyone interested in the complexities of being Northern Irish , Ulster , dissenter educated , etc , representing Ireland in a 32 county context could do worse that read it . David Hewitt was cut from the same cloth as Jack Kyle , same viewpoint expressed by him as Jack .
Kyle wrote an open letter to the papers in the late sixties , having a huge cut at a certain reverend gentleman who was poisoning the atmosphere up here - with tragic knock on effects ( not all his fault, it takes 2 to tango ) for 40 years plus . Re anthems etc , and with your rugby hat on , Ozy , they played the "Queen " in Ravenhill up to 1953 I think when Ireland were playing , there was a huge ( secret) row , the southern guys had a meeting , but sense prevailed . Kyle and co thought the southern players were having a meeting praying for the Pope ! |

Had to laugh at the two chanchers from Limerick who are in dispute with Paddies, they asked yer wan behind the counter to write out a Rory special to shoot par or under for 2nd(?) round at Augusta,he duly did and the two boys aren,t happy they haven't been honoured the 14/1(E40) and took it to the media.Clear palp for what was probably a good shade of odds on.
