Surely this relationship doesn't act as a great advocate for the integrity of racing?

It's public knowledge that Rupert extended himself with a mortgage for agricultural land.

So how good does it look when PP are going top price by a couple of points on Vautour all winter for the Arkle etc. (numerous examples)

Most on here know how the racing system promotes handicapping et (buyer be aware etc) but surely this relationship is toxic for the perception of passive viewers and the promotion of the sport ??

I find myself agreeing with you , it could be classed as passing inside infomation , and we all know the penalty for that...
Report BigRob1 January 31, 2015 10:47 PM GMT
Couldn't agree more .

A jockey being employed by a layer ,, doesn't make any sense at all.

This relationship as you refer to it D.J. is going on now for a good few years , and for the next 6weeks there will be plenty more of it,  is it right? i was in PP at around 12.30 today and Ruby was being interviewed and felt it would take a special performence to beat Morning Run ;  many punters would welcome this type of info. ..But i see where your comeing from.

FRANK   I DIDNT HAVE BET BUT THOUGHT LYRIC THEATRE WAS GIVEN NICE school AND ONLY HIT LAST TWO COULD OF WON ?
Report dj876 January 31, 2015 11:01 PM GMT
Frank,

If you're reliant on hearing a jockey's "impartial" opinion on a race you're in serious trouble.

There could be a discrepancy in to the quality of the information relayed to the customers and to what is relayed to his employer (PP).

Whatever the truth is, the opaque relationship is not healthy for the perception of the passive punter.
Report frank60 January 31, 2015 11:04 PM GMT
A very bad mistake at the last Norn ;but i dont belive she would have beaten the winner,   LYRIC THEATRE did run a cracker NORN to be fair.

I would agree with this - the optics to the ordinary punter don't look great.

I'm sure without Ruby Walsh, Mr. Power would still be able to his hands on info that the punter would be last to hear about but as I say, the optics don't look good.

When I'm in a pp shop and hear the opening remark  ,I spoke to Ruby this MORNING and asked him what he thought about his mount in this , it could be well into the afternoon at this stage , he said etc etc ..Surely this firm are then forearmed , and can ajust prices accordingly ...

I take another view....I wouldn't believe a word that came out of his mouth were his pp contract is concerned..remember a lot of it is form and your eyes tell you what has gone on..if anyone belives ruby would give pp anything that would help a punter..they don't know ruby..
Report Rocketfingers February 1, 2015 11:33 AM GMT
Deary me, so hold on what you're saying is Tony you actually know Ruby Walsh personally ????

This implies you know him Tony and people who have a different point of view on the subject to yours do so because they don't know him !! So you now don't know him?
Report tony57 February 1, 2015 12:30 PM GMT
just for someone with ltd intelligence as yourself..take a look at some of ruby comments regarding punters????his lack of respect for us..would at least make anyone who is remotely interested in the game think twice before believing ruby when passing comment for a bookie?i don't have to know him to know his track record..(just to help you he has said such things like I don't care about punters on tv)..do you understand now what I was saying?..of course you do..but you try to twist it as something that is not there...clown!!!

So you admit you lied and you don't know him, cool just wanted clarity on that soft lad, cheers Happy

tony your comment would lead people to believe that you are implying you know ruby! if you had of given these examples of rubys disdain for punters in your original post then you may have avoided the (obvious) cunfusion.

well tony even if its not implied it certainly comes across that way..the word imply would mean that you have intentionally led us to believe you know him, which maybe you have not.

Ruby Walsh's deal with PP simply should not be happening. Another example of how an unhealthy relationship between bookies and the racing insiders is developing is the amount of bookies reps giving "advice" to punters though the media. You couldn't make it up-the people who have a vested interest in taking your money telling you what to back!.
Report padlock February 1, 2015 8:44 PM GMT
Agree with tony, ruby has no time for punters or common courtesy ,I asked him about his ride on ouninpohja in the county hurdle years ago and he completely ignored my civilised question, arrogant git imo.
