While Barney Curley is grabbing the headlines today normal service looks like being resumed on Thyestes Day with a Willie Mullins Benefit again .
Obvious Chances for Abbyssial , Zaidpour, Dogora and the well touted Black Hercules ....

But also think he has a right chance of landing the big one with Vesper Bell best price 8/1 Ladbrokes ...
He has put the unfortunate David Casey on the ground on his last 2 runs but is reunited with Ruby Walsh who has never been out of the first 3 ( 2 wins ) in the 7 times he has ridden him ...Willie has won it 3 times in the last 8 years but i don t think Ruby has won the race yet and  i m sure would like to get it on his CV ...
Will love the ground and i thought he was creeping into the race nicely before parting company with Casey  at Warwick a few weeks ago . Top weight i know but 11-7 is a lot better than if he had 12-0  ...

best of luck dinglemick, I think DOGORA with a clear round has to win ? ruby getting down to 11-2 and the form of lto with the giggy horse a touch disappointing but it was a grade 1..not sure what price it,ll be?..but may double it up with the bumper runner. no other bets for me..best of luck to all

11-2??He'd do that weight after a dozen pints and a snack box,he rode rockyaboya off 10-3 less than a month ago.

In fairness that could be just a bit of not correct English, receiving weight might have been a better way of putting it( probably as a 5 yo tis in the conditions of the race).
Thought in the 2.45 Sacre Malta may be a decent enough ew price with the few pound turnaround in the weights against likely fav Federici.

Backed Playing e.w at 14s in the Thyestes. Up 14lb in a much better race, he would appear to have it all to do. But he absolutely hacked up last time out, having the race won a long way from home, and jumping very well. Strangely enough, at the age of 11, he seems to be still improving, and could very well be up to the task.
Report workrider • January 23, 2014 11:24 AM GMT
Callit I was talking to a owner from that yard recently . he said Tom was delight with Playing and they were more than hopeful he would run a big race , cant see it myself though...
Report world wide web • January 23, 2014 12:51 PM GMT
Always get excited about the Thyestes and like many others, I will forever remember Dun Doire winning as a reserve in 2006.

Tough race to call the winner in but I have backed Ipsos Du Berlais & Rich Revival both e/w @ 16/1

Ipsos Du Berlais
Ran well in the PP Chase at Christmas coming 3rd - I feel the run last weekend @ Naas night only have been a prep for today and that he has come out of the race well. I noticed that a number of bookies seemed to have temporarily dropped him from the betting earlier in the week, perhaps assuming that he wouldn't run today so soon after Saturday.
I'm hoping he'll be ridden prominently/close to the pace.
Will love the going.
Although Carberry has opted for Hunting Party, Fox takes off a useful 7lbs and knows the horse having ridden him in the PP Chase and the Grade C Porterstown @ Fairyhouse

Rich Revival
His regular jockey Brian O'Connell is reunited with him after he was ridden by Adrian Heskin in the PP
I'm happy with the run in the PP being pulled up 2 out
Will love the going
Connections have been quoted as saying he wants to go left-handed, but he has won twice going right-handed
Stable in good form recently

I thought Hunting Party was interesting, but he's effectively still a novice having fallen at the 1st in the PP and can't have him until seeing more

g/l with you pick(s) and enjoy the race

Didn t have a bet but i m sure the stewards will have a look into the running and riding of The Doorman ( 17s on here on the off ) ... Yeah right Ted Angry Rancid
Report silvergreaser • January 23, 2014 2:07 PM GMT
Townend was making sure Ruby got far enough ahead of him before getting serious in the first.
Report dinglemick • January 23, 2014 2:11 PM GMT
i have to agree with you there silver
Report Tolmi • January 23, 2014 2:12 PM GMT
Don't drop down with shock silver..I would have to agree with you on that one!!
Report silvergreaser • January 23, 2014 2:20 PM GMT
Your all right Tolmi I was stretched out on the couch so I'd nowhere to fall, you got the feeling if it had been ridden to get closer a bit earlier it could have been interesting but that was never going to happen with the huge weight of money for the fav.
Report pa lapsy • January 23, 2014 2:26 PM GMT
Don,t think he was ever going to beat Abbyssical no matter what way he rode him though accept what ye are saying, winner despite the tail had the ears up after the line and had plenty more to offer.
Absolute shocker by Zaidpour and beat a very long way out.
Report silvergreaser • January 23, 2014 2:32 PM GMT
Im not saying he would've beat the winner pa but the winner was hardly putting daylight between them.

Yep absolute shocker from yet another Mullins fancied inmate, what an enormous turnaround in form with Mala Beach with only a 2lb weight pull, but I suppose its pointless us complaining as nobody ever answers for it.
Report dinglemick • January 23, 2014 2:37 PM GMT
On a nicer note ... Hats off to Dave and Ed Marnane just had a winner in Dubai with Jamesie 8/1 ... Their horses always run well out there .. had a little interest in it Excited
Report Tolmi • January 23, 2014 2:38 PM GMT
I would be fairly sure that if the horse in front had been trained in a different yard then the second would have been a bit closer turning in.
Report pa lapsy • January 23, 2014 2:44 PM GMT
A very good way of putting it Tolmi and of course that is right.
Saw that Jamsie running alright Dingle but left him go,WD
Report dinglemick • January 23, 2014 2:52 PM GMT
their one in the last Elleval should run well aswell Lapsy ...12/1 .... 2 nd in the UAE Derby last year out there
Report silvergreaser • January 23, 2014 2:57 PM GMT
There was a few interesting runs from a few behind Mala Beach, Jetson, Bishopsfurze and Augnacurraveel, I wouldn't call them real eyecatchers but they all seemed to be ridden with another day in mind, Bishopsfurze will I presume be stepping back up to fences when he's ready to strike?.
