cruyff smoked 20 a day,..i agree smoking is ridiculous were a top sportsman is concerned but as Wildman says its legal..rooney smokes occasionally, it won't make them any less of a footballer..but im sorry to say I think everyone of us know a family member who is dead co,s of cigs..we all know the danger..

If a person dies of cancer and they were a smoker its automatically put down to cigarettes when it could just as easily have been a mix of different factors like poor diet, working in a hazardous working enviroment for years, family history etc.

A 111 year old women only gave up cigarettes at 103 because she developed bronchitis, she also enjoyed a bottle of port a day.

I'm not saying cigarettes are good for you but there is plenty of examples of people who smoked nearly all their lives and lived to ripe old age.

You'd probably have to live till you're 3000 years of age to die of passive smoke but the bleeding heart liberals think that one breath of passive smoke is after shortening their lives by at least 20 years such is the OTT hysteria surrounding passive smoke.

Hollywood one of the main culprits in the obsession with smoking .  I also notice that more and more recent movies show people smoking , thought everyone had wised up .  With Kevin Costner on this one , all the baddies smoked in Waterworld .

Governments colluded too , Treasury existed for many years very comfortably courtesy of tobacco tax , ( now its petrol ) . And there has always been a strong lobby politically not anti smoking ( civil liberty bullshit a la USA gun laws ) .

No one blood related to me smokes , most gave it up 40 years or more ago . Just have to concentrate on the grandchildren now , but example counts .  Maybe thats why Wenger reacted .

Kelly if a Hollywood film was set in say the 1920's people smoking was almost routine, so showing a 1920's movie without anybody smoking in it wouldn't have any authenticity to it.

C'mon Kelly just because a teen sees a movie star smoking on screen will make them instantly take up smoking?, thats the type of bleeding heart liberal bull that bugs me and thats not been rude, most children learn to smoke in the schoolyard through peer pressure not because of some celebrity or sports star.

I agree with silvergreaser here though, just because you see someone in a movie doing something does not make you automatically go out and do the same

Believe me , I worked for a cigarette company , anyone who does not know the "dirty tricks" brigade set up just did not live in the real world . Sometimes wonder how I refrained from being a whistle blower when all the denials about cancer were being put out by the cigarette companies .

We can't smoke in pubs anymore, at bus stops, in a car with children under a certain age even some smokers themselves have been spooked many going out in the wind and rain rather than smoke in their own homes.

Cigarettes can't be advertised in shops but hidden away or can't be advertised anywhere for that matter, but no matter what they do people will still smoke regardless.

If they actually fulfilled their ultimate goal in getting cigarettes banned altogether it will only drive it underground and give the already flourishing black market a colossal boost.

silver I have to say im delighted smoking has been banned in lots of places..and that's only right..if you want to smoke then that's fine just do it when its not going to upset others who take there que from the anti smoking lobby..there evidence is beyond reproach..smoke in your own home..no probs..

Our department did all the systems , reb .  Nothing moved we did not know about somehow despite the Fort Knox security on "sensitive" data .  Plus I looked after the marketing data one way and another , so I knew what we were spending , where .  Long time ago mind , but never could understand those who buried their heads in the sand .
