If a person dies of cancer and they were a smoker its automatically put down to cigarettes when it could just as easily have been a mix of different factors like poor diet, working in a hazardous working enviroment for years, family history etc.

A 111 year old women only gave up cigarettes at 103 because she developed bronchitis, she also enjoyed a bottle of port a day.

I'm not saying cigarettes are good for you but there is plenty of examples of people who smoked nearly all their lives and lived to ripe old age.

You'd probably have to live till you're 3000 years of age to die of passive smoke but the bleeding heart liberals think that one breath of passive smoke is after shortening their lives by at least 20 years such is the OTT hysteria surrounding passive smoke.

But the anti smoking brigade are not totally innocent either as they exaggerate facts to suit their own agenda, they've turned scaremongering tactics into an art form.

We can't smoke in pubs anymore, at bus stops, in a car with children under a certain age even some smokers themselves have been spooked many going out in the wind and rain rather than smoke in their own homes.

Cigarettes can't be advertised in shops but hidden away or can't be advertised anywhere for that matter, but no matter what they do people will still smoke regardless.

If they actually fulfilled their ultimate goal in getting cigarettes banned altogether it will only drive it underground and give the already flourishing black market a colossal boost.

Wasn't aware of John Wayne's heavy smoking habit and the related marketing propaganda until your earlier post. After some googling it's clear also that he had a kind of damascian, health-related conversion subsequently.
