The alien just did it again and said bloop, bloop, bloop! In anger the guy cuts off the alian head. Immediately another one grows back. Then the alien pushes his finger into the guy's shoulder and says: bloop, bloop, bloop!

The guy says if you do that again I will cut off your dick! The alien did it again so in his anger the guy pulls down the aliens pants and is shocked to see that there is no dick! In his astonishment he asks," If you don't have a dick then how do you have sex?"

The alien pushes his finger into the guys shoulder and says," bloop, bloop, bloop!"

I don't work directly in the trade, pubs work off a high Gross Margin ,65-70%,as do other retail trades such as Jewellers in excess of 80%.
The costs in the trade are astronomical -Insurance(massive increases),Refuse,Utilities,Rates,Staff Costs -most operations work at a wage percentage of 30% to turnover,Sky sports rates are based on turnover and size of licensed premises can be as much as €600 per week, have to provide entertainment-If you pay €500 for a band to maintain your net margin the first €3000 of turnover subsidises that cost.If you serve food you have to pay premium rates on Sundays.

Bars/Nightclubs were once very profitable but not so anymore. There are many reasons why turnover has declined-Change in Habbits,Smoking Ban,General economic decline. You can't price goods/services on initial cost.

Plenty of places up for lease if ye all think they are Cash Cows but the truth is that the turnover isn't there in the vast majority of them.

Pubs don't want to become involved in Price Wars because often it attracts the wrong clients and often the only premises able to afford to charge basement prices are on a Vat fiddle.

Decent pubs should be priced reasonably and very few successful Publicans charge Regulars for Water Based Drinks.Decent Publicans will provide complimentary food on major sporting occasions or family occasions for regulars. They can see the bigger picture and are generally rewarded with customer loyalty.

Rumour has it that Ireland is once again "competitive" but we can all see the lie. It's propagated by Government agencies and vested interests to keep charges like rent and rates seriously penal. We also read of the property market "bottoming out" or displaying a little growth: we dont need growth in the housing market; if we leave one legacy to our kids and its cheap homes to live in it will be one small consolation. Next time you hear a commentator mention rising property prices shout him down!!

Pubs are reaping what they sowed some years ago when we all asked: €5+ for a pint? No one likes being ripped off but the vinters were greedy for far too long and lost a lot of their custom with the downturn as the punters saw no reason to be loyal when off-licences weer so cheap. Bear in mind that over a twenty year period the gross margin on pub sales went from 30% to 65%/70% and you can see how they had it too easy for far too long. (the cartel ruled). At the same time the leisure habits of the country has changed dramatically in recent times and I believe that when McDowell's "cafe society" proposal was beaten to death by the VFI then the end was nigh. We need a new model and somewhere with reasonably-priced food and drink in an informal, brighter setting is where the future lies. The French boulevard cafe without the tree-lined streets, sunshine or attentive waiter!?!

The other model that puzzles me is the supermarket: The efficient Germans have an excellent new exceptional value-for-money model that gains modest extra market share every year yet people still spend exorbitant amounts in competing supermarkets knowing that Tesco, for example, are hammering this market. Just look what a farmer gets for his produce: milk, pork or beef and compare it to the price on the supermarket shelf. The argument about supporting Irish jobs is a camouflage for rip-off. There was a time when no product went on a certain supermarket shelf in Ireland unless the supplier was gouged for a 43% margin on the ultimate selling price. Too little competition among beef processors, supermarkets etc and the primary producer and customer gets fleeced.

and finally padlock I don't know how you answer your issue about price differential. If you support your local (unbranded/unfranchised) butchers, bakers, shoe retailers at least you know you are paying to support local enterprise and not rewarding sweat shops in the far east. It's a descision everyone has to make but the likelihood is that, over time, every main street in rural ireland will be like the north of england devoid of everything other than a globally-branded bookmakers, pharmacies and other assorted non-indigenous business. Its a depressing thought but we all have to spend our money more wisely and at the same time support our neighbours and not globalisation.

What Happens to Your Body Within an Hour of Drinking a Coke

Do you want to be healthy? Drinking soda is bad for your health in so many ways; science can’t even state all the consequences. Here’s what happens in your body when you assault it with a Coke:

Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don’t vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.

Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.

Within 40 minutes, caffeine absorption is complete; your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.

Around 45 minutes, your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain – a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.

After 60 minutes, you’ll start to have a sugar crash.

Dr. Mercola's Comments:

How many sodas have you had today? How about your kids? As of 2005, white bread was dethroned as the number one source of calories in the American diet, being replaced by soft drinks.

The average American drinks more than 60 gallons of soft drinks each year, but before you grab that next can of soda, consider this: one can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine, and is loaded with artificial food colors and sulphites. Not to mention the fact that it’s also your largest source of dangerous high-fructose modified corn syrup.

Let’s take a look at some of the other major components of a can of soda:

Phosphoric Acid: Which can interfere with the body's ability to use calcium, leading to osteoporosis or softening of the teeth and bones.
Sugar: It is a proven fact that sugar increases insulin levels, which can lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, premature aging and many more negative side effects. Most sodas include over 100 percent of the RDA of sugar. Sugar is so bad for your health in so many ways, I even created an entire list outlining 100-Plus Ways in Which Sugar Can Damage Your Health
Aspartame: This chemical is used as a sugar substitute in diet soda. There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption including brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes, emotional disorders and epilispsy/seizures.
Caffeine: Caffeinated drinks cause jitters, insomnia, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, elevated blood cholesterol levels, vitamin and mineral depletion, breast lumps, birth defects, and perhaps some forms of cancer.
Tap Water: I recommend that everyone avoid drinking tap water because it can carry any number of chemicals including chlorine, trihalomethanes, lead, cadmium, and various organic pollutants. Tap water is the main ingredient in bottled soft drinks.
Clearly, the over-consumption of sodas and sweet drinks is one of the leading causes fueling the world-wide obesity epidemic.

One independent, peer-reviewed study published in the British medical journal The Lancet demonstrated a strong link between soda consumption and childhood obesity.  They found that 12-year-olds who drank soft drinks regularly were more likely to be overweight than those who didn't. In fact, for each additional daily serving of sugar-sweetened soft drink consumed during the nearly two-year study, the risk of obesity jumped by 60 percent.

Here’s another sobering fact if you’re struggling with weight issues: Just one extra can of soda per day can add as much as 15 pounds to your weight over the course of a single year!

Other statistics on the health dangers of soft drinks include:

One soda per day increases your risk of diabetes by 85 percent
Soda drinkers have higher cancer risk. While the federal limit for benzene in drinking water is 5 parts per billion (ppb), researchers have found benzene levels as high as 79 ppb in some soft drinks, and of the 100 brands tested, most had at least some detectable level of benzene present
Soda has been shown to cause DNA damage – courtesy of sodium benzoate, a common preservative found in many soft drinks, which has the ability to switch off vital parts of your DNA. This could eventually lead to diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson's
If you are still drinking soda, stopping the habit is an easy way to improve your health. Pure water is a much better choice, or if you must drink a carbonated beverage, try sparkling mineral water with a squirt of lime or lemon juice.

There is absolutely NO REASON your kids should ever drink soda. None, nada, zip, zero. No excuses. The elimination of soft drinks is one of the most crucial factors to deal with many of the health problems you or your children suffer.

If you struggle with an addiction to soda, (remember, sugar is actually more addictive than cocaine!) I strongly recommend you consider Turbo Tapping as a simple yet highly effective tool to help you stop this health-sucking habit. Turbo Tapping is a simple and clever use of the Emotional Freedom Technique, designed to resolve many aspects of an issue in a concentrated period of time.

Good post about coca cola Roger always knew twas lethal tack and wouldn,t touch it except as a fairly rare mixer.Hated their ads(the power of advertising) particulary the Chrismas one where Coca cola is portrayed as Santa when in fact they are the devil incarnate.
People are and have been copping on to the Germans RA,think in years gone by the cash and carrys(Musgraves in particular) would be responsible for the price fixing that was going on. Think a bit of a price war developed a couple of months ago in relation to fruit and veg where the Germans in fairness in their stores always had them reasonable.Tesco and the like will hit back with home deliveries probably.
Your point about the publicans being greedy is true also, didn,t they refuse wetherspoons a licence as were afraid of the competition which they knew they would come off second best.
Half of Patrick st in Cork will become boarded up(tis becoming that way already, rents are too high) unless euro, charity or their British ilk become tenants or unless they run their business in conjunction with the internet.
