thats a scandal.shooting themselves in the foot big time.ud but 2 litres of coke in aldi or lidl for 1.20e...i guess that particular establishment wont see either of them again so they will lose the custom and rightly so..

I gave up the drink all most 10years ago W.R, so i drink  Lucozade when i get thirsty and pay around 3euro a bottle when i frequent the pubs, the other day while drinking a Lucozade after doing a spot of gardening my daughter said to me Dad; do you know that Famous “energy” brand Lucozade has 4.8 teaspoons of sugar in a 500ml bottle ITS good for you; and your putting on a lot of weight.
HOLY JESUS ITS WATER FROM NOW ON.Cry

Pity when the food was good and reasonably priced . Pubs nearly a thing of the past outside cities and bigger towns at this stage. C change taking place in peoples habits as to drinking. Maybe too cheap in supermarkets/garages/off licences. Home drinking not a great thing , lots of problems/misery down the line.

I have been in there a couple of times myself and found food /staff excellent. would have been drinking a beer so no knowledge of prices of minerals. No sense in it. If you kick a dog often enough he will bite ya back eventually.

There most be a 100% mark up on soft drinks in most pubs ..can any one out there in pub land  Verify this.
By:
dj876
When: 28 Apr 13 22:47
In wr's example the gross margin is 87%,standard soft drink margin is 77%.Only thing about soft drinks he ain't going to have ten of them.

What mark up on spirits/beer?
By:
oufies pal
When: 28 Apr 13 22:52
You must be a frequent visitor to the greasy spoon yourself Kingrat ,as you know of such special offers.
By:
dj876
When: 28 Apr 13 22:53
I am talking gross margin here not mark up.
Beer = 54-57%,Spirits = 75%,bottled beer = 70%+

Draught is the smallest margin by a long way but is the most popular obv.
By:

When: 28 Apr 13 22:54
one wouldnt mind paying for beer etc but minerals should be 1.50 at most.cans of coke in 6 packs cost 40c each..
By:
dj876
When: 28 Apr 13 22:58
You can't really equate minerals in different packaging or for retail purposes but it's still a rip off.

No good being in a high margin business when there is no volume anymore.

reasons why are clear to see?
By:

One of them Kavvie as well as change in attitude or cultural changes, smoking ban and general economic recession.

In defence of the trade, although stock costs are low, there are many other costs which are extortionate and most profitable premises provide entertainment.

An alien walks into a bar and sits next to a muscular guy. Then the alien pushes his finger into the guys shoulder and says: bloop, bloop, bloop!

The guy looks at him and says," If you do that again I will cut your head off with this here knife!"

The alien just did it again and said bloop, bloop, bloop! In anger the guy cuts off the alian head. Immediately another one grows back. Then the alien pushes his finger into the guy's shoulder and says: bloop, bloop, bloop!

The guy says if you do that again I will cut off your dick! The alien did it again so in his anger the guy pulls down the aliens pants and is shocked to see that there is no dick! In his astonishment he asks," If you don't have a dick then how do you have sex?"

The alien pushes his finger into the guys shoulder and says," bloop, bloop, bloop!"

That what happens when an alien has to many Lucozades  W.R

If you go into a working class local the dash of 7up, coke, red or white is all free, take as much as you want only pay for the spirit, no coincidence its these pubs that have survived and in some cases thrived in this recession?.
By:

When: 28 Apr 13 23:53
Silver, same story with trades people etc. who ripped off during boom.Idle now while decent folk still plying their trades and doing quiet well in some cases. Its long road that has no bend.
