they prob know a bit more about it than you or me!?!they tried to make all at xmas.btn by small margin.they held him up today and he was btn again.so its fair to say he doesnt stay that far.nothing ventured nothing gained.he will win ryanair if he goes for it.would be madness taking on sprinter sacre.
Report brain dead jockeys February 9, 2013 6:15 PM GMT
today was same result as over xmas............dont give them any encouragement for making bad decisions...........over 2m 4f he beat SDC by how far?

i think the horse has been disappointed by the change of tactics employed recently ..my own take on the matter is , this horse jumps for fun , he loves been up front taking on his fences at speed , this new tactics are simply confusing the horse ...he was dropped out 6/8 lts behind the leader today , yet at every fence he made up at least a length ...hes beaten a length and a half at the finish ....i looked at him in the ring  he stood head and shoulders above the rest of the field ...this horse knows hes a star , its a pity the connections don't have the same belief i him and let him get on with it....btw it was a smashing race.....

Let him get on with it by himself up front and he'll jump them into submission.

Report workrider February 9, 2013 9:01 PM GMT
i really cant understand this ..he did not stay bit ....as i said let him go off in front and if he gets beat.....THEN AND ONLY THEN WOULD I SAY HE DID NOT STAY.....
Report workrider February 9, 2013 9:03 PM GMT
as an side , he sent him on after the 2nd last at xmas which is about 2 1/2 furs at most ...certainly not 4 furs....
Report callitasucit February 9, 2013 9:06 PM GMT
Hopefully all involved see sense, and let him rubber in the Champion Chase. Now that would be a sight worth going a long way to see.
Report Santry February 9, 2013 9:08 PM GMT
Would really love to see Flemenstar run in the Champion Chase where he could bowl along and use his jumping and it would take an exceptional horse to come past him.If his campaign was based around the 2 mile race I think he would win it but 2 hard races over a distance beyond him is not the ideal preparation .Sprinter Sacre is not unbeatable . If you scutinise his form he has yet to beat a proper Grade 1 horse. His 2 runs this season have been against really poor opposition.
Report workrider February 9, 2013 9:11 PM GMT
i think he'd have a chance against nickys superstar ...he'd boss that fellow for about a mile and get him thinking , i'd say he enjoy taking them along and would be hard to pass , having said that s.s. is some machine....
Report lapsy pa February 9, 2013 9:14 PM GMT
Seems you had a decent day there WR,hopefully bit of a change of luck for ya. Flemenstars attitude seemed wrong when he was reined back ie the head looked awkward and ears flat,he seemed to hate being held up. Think i,d like to see him hare off over the 2m as well,he is such a lovely jumper and gains lengths.

Brilliant race to watch the Hunters,Salisfy was cruisin' and cut through them easily just before turning in,did very well to fight back in the end, ground coming a bit more right for him.
Report callitasucit February 9, 2013 9:48 PM GMT
Yeah, he deserved to win, poor jump at last nearly done him. Faster pace at Chelt will enable Sweeney to hang onto him for bit longer too. Two good hunters. Hard to see how Chapoturgeon will have improved from last year, so could be one for us again.
Report workrider February 9, 2013 9:51 PM GMT
agree lapsy , he looked beat after the last , but he loves leopardstown , he ran the same sort of race there last year as well , he should run well at cheltenham with the going likely to come in his favor...we have some nice hunters again this year....i felt sorry for willies , looked as if clonmel was taking its toll from a long way out today...he's been a grand servant over the years....

Wd workrider good pickin Grin, would have loved to see Flemenstar having a bash of Sprinter Sacre without that slog yesterday coming on top of the Tidal Bay battle, btw you have to give credit to Russell for kicking on so early and drawing it out of the fav.
Report oufies pal February 10, 2013 10:57 AM GMT
Agree with you Lapsy the horse looked confused/unsettled at been held up .Tactics surely cost him a couple of lengths there yesterday. At least they learned two things for certain he does not stay three miles an should not be held up. On a more worrying note with Cheltenham in mind he looked to be well revved up and on toes before the race ,hardly a good sign for a creature about to be thrust into the Collisium  that is Prestbury Park. Personally I love this horse but if he travels (which there must be some doubt about) i wont be a player no matter what race they go for.
Report lapsy pa February 10, 2013 11:20 AM GMT
Yes Oufie, don,t think anyone mentioned he was in a bit of a state pre-race and he sweated up a bit as well, you could well be right to be cautious with him in future.

TIME FLEMENSTAR WENT TO A DECENT TRAINER
Report Tolmi February 10, 2013 12:16 PM GMT
I thought Justin O Hanlon got it pretty spot on in his RP analysis.Another issue re Cheltenham looks like the horses inability to relax pre race which will surely be exaggerated by the travelling and the whole occasion of Cheltenham.
Report moneypenny February 10, 2013 2:44 PM GMT
Debate has raged for weeks about the best distance for the charismatic Peter Casey-trained chaser, who has looked so smart at up to two and a half miles, and connections were keen to give him another chance at three miles after his third-placed finish in the Lexus Chase over Christmas.

Flemenstar was held up by Andrew Lynch and eventually beaten by a length and three-quarters in the Hennessy Gold Cup, but Curran wants to see if something was wrong with the gelding before important decisions are made.

"He seems OK today, but I would say he underperformed," said Curran.

"He wasn't himself. Andrew said he had to push him into the jumps, which he never has had to before.

Profiles Flemenstar (IRE)
"He didn't carry Andrew at all and we cannot put a finger on it, there was no life in him. He didn't sparkle. We'll have him tested over the next few days and maybe we will find he had got an infection, or there was something amiss."

Flemenstar has entries in all three of the feature chases - the Gold Cup, Ryanair and Queen Mother Champion - and Curran insists nothing is set in stone.

He said: "I'm not sure, we will just see how he is over the next few days. We are good losers and I don't want to take anything away from the winner. In all fairness, he's a very, very good horse and I'm pleased for the O'Learys (Sir Des Champs' owner Gigginstown House Stud)."
Report Santry February 10, 2013 2:58 PM GMT
Looks like Mr.Curran cannot read the writing on the wall or doesn't want to. Hope this doesn't end in tears.

Connections seem confused , and not willing to accept the fairly firm evidence associated with the horses initial splendid performances .

He is not anything approaching the Arkle class  whose name was taken in vain in the odd utterance from somewhere . Time for realism to set in and park the pipedreams .

Still a brilliant horse , wish I owned him , plenty of empties to be picked up in these isles between now and May , and Cheltenham not necessarily the best track for him .
