So much coolness these days, so mature for his youth. Brilliant race reader and rode Murtagh asleep once again by letting him do all the donkey work and cruise thru like a piece of work. Murtagh must be still on the Coolmore Pay Roll, the way he has been riding today. |

Is there any other rider to have improved as much in such a short space of time as Joseph?
He is not faultless but rides such as Warwick Avenue today and imperial Monarch yday were very decent, Aidan has to get some credit for shepherding him through the valley of darkness to some extent also |

They upped the weights for health reasons?
What a load of effing boll!x, by doing so they're prolonging Josephs agony, a guy who would when he's 25 settle down at at least 12st if allowed to be natural, but no! its all for health reasons they tell me? yet their prolonging Josephs natural assent. So basically Joseph will starve, and Dr Aidrian McGoldrick will tell me its all for health reasons?. |

I dislike this uncritical adulation. Ok to admire the youngster who is the first jockey that the world has probably ever seen to have such privileges handed to him on a silver platter but less of the fawning love-ins please.
The whole O'Brien family racecourse thing is really weird imo. Being in the midst of raising three teenagers the notion that this family is presented at the track-side as impeccably well-groomed and near-perfect specimens to highlight the father as world class trainer,sire and daddy leaves me very cold. It's the pony club mentality gone stark raving bonkers. |

I think Ted Durcan got a lesson on Saturday night from young Joseph in a Group 1.  |

hes a fine ride but the fact is, there are a plethora of riders out there that could do what he does if they had the horses.
its easy to 'cut thru the field' when youre on a superior horse. he does have a v cool head on his shoulders as seen in his camelots rides, but seamie or colm are as good and imo should be ahead of joe on the roster. hes a v good ride tho. |

Joseph will always get criticism its the just the way the world works. The society of begrudgers who have achieved nothing in there life's sit idle by and snap and snarl at the gangly teenager.
Yet the same people will talk of Jamie Spencer the ultimate poster boy for a silver spoon, done nothing in his career yet got the job at the famous Ballydoyle. The problem then arises that Spencer was a failure and horrific bunch of rides that even left his Family Mr Magnier shakening there head. The difference is simply this, Spencer had more talent but had no bottle, Joseph has less talent but far more bottle. Of course there is plenty of jockey with talent and hunger but when it comes to riding horses that has literally tens of Millions at stake, Joseph comes up trumps everytime, The Americans call it the clutch gene, the ability to do it when it counts when the pressure is at the highest.. Look at Ted Durcan what age is he?, Luke Nolen on Black Cavier, Zenyetta, Giants Causeway the list is endless. Sure the degenerate Gamblers that throw there lives a way in bookies will say he is a rotten so and so and that his rides are awful and when the big day comes there money will be on the 3.35 at Uttoxeter instead of the 3.40 at Ascot and when Joseph goes and win(Not saying ST Nick will win) and they curse him even more and wish the chap injury. I personally heard grown men berate him at Leaparstown for his ride on Count of Limonade and did so in his ear shot to let him know what they thought. My Point is considering where Ballydoyle where at the start of this season with no No.1 Jockey, Joseph riding what 2 years has come into the most pressuried job in world racing and has failed not once when it counts. Not Once!. 19 years of age |

Spencers is Magnier Godson so close enough.
Broken record it may seem because everyone on this forum has it in for Joseph O Brien and more so his father. Quick to spell out fact he is born into wealth etc but fail to reconize his effort and results that has validated his position as Top class Jockey for his age of 19. I leave it at that and fair enough people disagree etc etc and that is all good and well but general negative campaign against him for me in unwarranted but people as i said before will disagree. We will let the results in the big races in the future and his day day record of winners tell the tale. Luckly for us Stats do tell the tale! |

i think Joseph is v talented.
the problem is that his dad is the trainer and if he was my son i would prob be putting him up to but imo, he doesnt deserve it. i feel Colm should be no 1 for ballydoyle, he is a better jock than Joe and is more experienced. he deserves that. Joe is a v talented jockey and has ridden some crackers,but under normal circumstances he would not be the no 1 rider for that stable. |

I agree completely under Normal Circumstance he would not be stable Jockey but is it a bit fanciful to say COD would be. He is a excellent Jockey I agree but I don't believe they trust him. He has never been given a really big ride and thats his problem. Never been given a favorite in an English Classic that I can remember or one that has a real solid form book chance.
Seamie got SYT last year so if he is behind him then in reality could he ever be considered. |

as i said, if i was aidan and had the chance to put my son (whose v talented) up, i would prob do the same! just dont think its right but hey , im sure it wouldnt have gone ahead unless magnier and smith gave the green light! i like aidan, even if he is a little odd and spouts a lot of nonsense in order to sell the stallions, i guess hes told to! i also have a lot of time for Joseph, gives the impression he loves it all and has a good head on his shoulders, along with his feet on the ground! |

I agree with everyone AOB speaks pure cobble most of the time but i thought he was different man when rte came down that time with hector.
Say what you want about Hector but he managed to loosen up and very tough task indeed. |

I would have thought being in the priveleged position he is in puts even more pressure on the lad and makes his performances in the last twelve months all the more remarkable.

We all know of young sports people who got into priveleged positions due to relatives/parents/money.........99% never make it or are found out fairly quick.........Take a bow young Joseph you have yet to let the team down and getting better imo.

 6/1 looking huge now i got a good fill up around 3/1 with different bookmakers. I had to go around to a few to get the cash on, anything more than 100 was referred to the office |

The fractions show St Nicholas Abbey ran the final furlong quicker than any other horse in the race. Joseph gave him an unnecessary flogging, even his greatest admirers have to admit that it was a very poor ride.

Yeah can not disagree one of his worst rides. I don't blame him for being so far back as such as that was the hand he was given as was the horse but the panic when he went for the whip was not good.
Disappointing I certainly think he was the best horse in the race. |

Strange race,Coolmore pacemaker not able to take them far enough,dunaden racing prominently,Joeseph and Ryan watching each other,muddling mid pace led to a bunch finish with an admirable battling performance from an underated arc winning mare.
The most surprising aspect of the race was the betting,St. Nick-bsp-12.72,Sea moon-3.37.Ok fair enough ground was softer than ideal and question marks about the course for St. Nick but still.I am not suggesting anything sinister because it wouldn't make sense with the prize money and potential stallion fees,just strange. I would love to see St.Nick getting good ground in the arc. |

Best horse in the race ruby?, the only horse hard on the bridle 2 out was the winner Mr Starke finding his way blocked when he wanted to go for his race, the best horse won by far, and wasn't flogged to death like the staying on third?.

did I boba? I wasn't counting, in fact I might be on here a bit longer than that actually?, but in comparison to some I'm pretty conservative, ilikewavingatbuses joined in June 2009 and has something like 26,000 posts not that I care if he had a million and one posts in 6 months.

I feel yesterday was the first time since Joseph become effectively first jockey at Ballydoyle that he has made a high profile **** up. The ride on SNA was hard to understand on a number of fronts but giving a horse approx 7 lenghs to make up in the last 2 furlongs of an ultra competiive Group 1 on slow ground being the main one.I hope the lad survives this and he probably will but an operation like Coolmore will not want to see a repeat. A lot of money at stake. Also I find the decision to replace Seamie Heffernan with Joseph on Was in the Oaks very unfair.
