We may have seen the best bumper performance in Ireland this afternoon by the exciting Noel Meade trained mare Fickle Fortune..Clearly she'd been impressive at home and once Ned Buntline ran so  well on Saturday in the 4 year old bumper they knew they had something to go to war with.
By all accounts shes a bit of a madam and has temprament issues. She takes a bit of a hold and was lucky not to be the meat in the sandwich when produced. Nina did well not to fall off got quite unbalanced but whoosh she came back on the bridle instantly and doddled up from a good yardstick.
Meade desribed her afterwards as VERY VERY GOOD so clearly he holds her in huge regard. It was the first bumper performance that really stood out in recent months as considering how buzzed up she was and how close she came to being knocked over it was awesome. By all accounts she hasn't done much at home. 14 on betfair for Cheltenham. A decent mare i'd avoid Cheltenham and mind her. lovely race in Punchestown for her !

Have to agree with MissRobo i would be amazed if this horse goes to Cheltenham.
On another thread i objected to Silver Concorde ducking Un Atout in the Naas bumper on the say so of Willie Mullins,Noel Meade is another that runs scared of Mullins. No runner in the Naas bumper but has Ned Buntline in the Leopardstown four year old bumper,no Mullins horse and four days later runs a four year old filly against older horses again no Mullins runner. They backed Ned Buntline but punt the living daylights out of Fickle Finger it can`t be accidental its all carefully choreographed.

moscow mannon v visually impressive from an irish perspective , ex irish pointer ballyalton made a winning debut at warwick last week for ian williams , also impressed with mccains doyle carte a few weeks ago at catterick , dunno if the latter is cheltenham bound though

very 'sexy' performance from the recording I've just seen, I'll probably be backing her for the rest of her career on the strength of thatLaugh

Chelt. Bumper-not a race I wud have a bet on,but so far Moscow Mannon's form def has the most substance.A major downside for me wud be dat Declan Lavery will keep the ride, even giving that the has knowledge of the horse(wiped out by lack of  course knowledge),he wud be at least 7 lb inferior to pros. Some will say u have to admire the loyalty, not me this is a ruthless game.

DJ  DECLAN LAVERY IS VERY GOOD UP AN COMING JOCKEY AS PROVED BY HIS WINNING RIDE ON STATION LANE IN THE HURDLE TODAY AND HOPE HE KEEPS THE RIDE ON MOSCOW MANNION  , I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH FICKLE FORTUNE WITH WORKRIDER WHO ALSO AGREED THAT SHE IS LOVELY STAMP OF A HORSE . THE FACTS ARE NINA SHOWED  HOW GOOD JOCKEY SHE IS LOT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNSEATED IN THE COLLISON BUT ONCE SHE LET OUT INCH REIGN IT WAS OVER AND EVERYONE THAT WAS THERE KNEW WE HAD SEEN A REAL GOOD HORSE , AND BY JEEZ TOOK LONG LONG TIME FOR NINA TO PULL UP  .ID AVOID CHELT AS SHE ONLY 4 YEAR OLD BUT THINK WE WILL LOT MORE COME FROM THIS EXCITING WINNER PS I DIDNT BACK HER

As I said in the Thread I'd avoid the Cheltenham Bumper..Theres a lovely race in Punchestown for and also a Mares bumper in Cheltenham in april (not sure if shes eligible for that). But if they can iron out her temperament issues she could mop up a lot of valuable mares races.
It's common knowlege that a lot of trainers ring each other up prior to final declarations. And you can't blame them for trying to get as easy a race as possible into a debutant. Willie Mullins rarely if ever runs horses in that Leopardstown 4 Year Old Bumper. But Meades yard knew this mare today was as good if not better than NED BUNTLINE.. that Leopardstown race turned into a sprint and we might see better from SILVER CONCORDE in time was trapped in when the leaders got first run. But he was never mentioned in the same breath as las last years winner !

Fair point Stamford,i accept that Mullins rarely has runners in those early bumpers but how then did he manage to frighten everyone away from the Naas bumper.Over the last few years Mullins has managed to scare off the opposition by exaggerating the ability of his horses, this has resulted in moderate horses getting away with murder.I also get the impression that a middle man is advising who has an in in both stables and he in conjunction with others is punting them.If you review the bumpers you will see horses backed to ridiculous odds[three 1/4 shots at least]a bit of market manipulation on here and then any price is a good one.It took some money to back Fickle Fortune,a four year old filly against older horses, and some bravery but they have some strike rate this alliance seems to be working.

Very impressive is right although it wasnt a good race.......Will more than likely be aimed at the mares bumper at Aintree where she will definitely be favourite......Flat track and good gallop will look tailor made for her.....often a good bit of hurly burly in that race so the buffeting it got today will stand her in good stead.....Would blame Nina for the trouble.....there was no need to go where she did as it had about 3 stone in hand......Paul will be able to ride at Aintree and with her cruising speed that should be a match made in heaven....

How you can say a four year old filly who wins a Down Royal bumper on heavy ground will definitely start favourite for the mares bumper in Aintree is a mystery to me.

I think the second home LOS AMIGOS is useful and will win a bumper or maiden hurdle for sure. but it was the manner of victory that reeally impressed me. I think people nowadays realise The Cheltenham Bumper is no longer the be all and end all..In fact last years Aintree Bumper looked a better race than The Cheltenham equivalent. It's working out well too !
Noel Meade will place this mare to good effect and do whats best for her. Meade has gone close in the Cheltenham bumper a few times..Back in 1993 he introduced an exciting horse in that aforementioned Leopardstown 4 Year Old Bumper called HEIST who sluiced home landing some huge wagers (much stronger ring Back Then). HEIST beat a horse called Rhythm Section trained then by Jim Bolger.  Rhythm Section extracted revenge at Cheltenham now trained by Homer Scott under a vintage Paul Carberry ride went on to beat HEIST 9/4 Fav under a less than inspired Charlie Swan drive . Arguably the best bumper horse Meade ever trained was the brilliant but enigmatic and slightly fragile  Tiananmen Square. I recall having my brains on him when he was a monster punt into 9/10 on his Naas debut and sluiced up from RISK AVERSE. but it was his second start when he destroyed the much vaunted MORCELLI 11/8fav at Fairyhouse in a good winners bumper that had him dubbed as the new Golden Cygnet. He bolted up under Timmy Hyde from Morcelli ridden by a bemused David Marnane. He went to Cheltenham as an Irish Banker and the nap of the meeting for many good judges and went to post 6/6 favourite. But MONTELADO put him firmly in his place in what many feel to this day was the best ever Cheltenham bumper ironically in it's first ever runing. Richard Dunwoody was onboard MONTELADO. But we saw the real TIANAMEN SQUARE in The Punchestown Bumper as he extracted revenge. After 3 victories as a novice hurdler including the scalp of DORANS PRIDE the sky looked the limit for TIANAMEN SQUARE,but injury blighted his career which had only 4 further runs and ended in the 1996 stayers hurdle when he was pulled up ! A case of what might have been. Meade was also close in the 2008 Bumper when Corskeagh Royale was 2nd to COUSIN VINNY.

Because she is unquestionably the best bumper mare in Ireland.....theres every chance she is the best bumper animal let alone a mare......shes an absolute certainty to be favourite......english mares are never a whole load either.....and this mare will have a big following after today.....
By:

In above I meant to say  TIANAMEN SQUARE went to Cheltenham as an Irish Banker and the nap of the meeting for many good judges and went to post 6/4 favourite (not 6/6 as above)

By:

When: 01 Feb 12 22:20
You have gone up in my estimation, not exactly lying but he will always praise his horses.Owners always have high hopes plus they may want to sell so trainers generally say what the owners want to here.
Fickle Fortune looked suited by that ground so i would doubt her effectiveness on good or fast ground which it normally is at Aintree, they also ducked the two four year old bumpers presumably because they thought Fred Buntline was better.

Three things wildman.....didnt know who mandy rice davis was just googled her.....the way they backed her then theres every chance she was working better than Ned Buntline......finally i am not saying she will win at Aintree if she does turn up but what ia am saying is she is a cert to be favourite and short too.....
