Some load of rubbish talk here. He is a hard puller and given he was fresh as well, Elliott almost certainly told Carberry to bury him, get him settled and come through late to win if he could, learning plenty without having a hard race. As it turned out, the horse didn't settle at all and was still pulling with 5f to race. He would have needed to be a very good horse to win after pulling so hard, but to give Carberry stick for the ride is missing out on the big picture. Elliott and his owner want this horse to learn to race correctly to ensure he goes the right way and that is the type of ride that gives them the best chance of getting him settled.

Only saw the 2nd race 5 minutes ago........The horse fell twice while schooling and is hard to settle.......Jockey tried to bury him to chill him out.........Stating that the owner should take the horses out of Elliott's after that is a wee bit over the top..........

Been out and just watched it on replay, very hard to call on what he (Carberry) should have done or not as there was a danger the horse might light up if he pulled it wide and let it stride on the way it was fighting for its head.

In hindsight it would have been the thing to do as he would of at least had a look at his hurdles but what happened was a pure accident and can happen when horse are tightly packed like that.

I think he would have picked the lot of them up in the straight the way he was travelling.

gant i know you like elliott it comes across in most of your posts about him...maybe it did fall twice while schooling i cant say if it did or not...you seem to have an angle into that stable....but why change its way of running in a novice hurdle in those conditions..surely today was the day to let the horse get its confidence back against what in all fairness were a modest lot if we're been honest ..let him enjoy himself out front ..then another day teach him to settle...if what you say is true and i have no reason to doubt you ..him falling twice would be a worry ... bad decision all round imo...i wonder did barry concur....

Afterwards Davy Russell, rider of the 7/4 favourite Westmeath, reported to the Stewards that his mount got very tired on the heavy ground and after being examined by the vet he was found to be blowing hard post race.

I'm sure there will be words between Gordon and PC........If the horse got over that hurdle he would have hacked up.............On to fairyhouse now......Thats racing and Gordon will need all these big owners onside when he moves into his new yard.

well then the trainer should be pulled , sending an unfit horse to the races......ruby thats what punters are up against ..alo why i try and go racing as often as possible ...to see how fit or otherwise they are....

well then why run him  yourlack...surely they knew what the ground was like ..its not as if was the first race on the card ..plus russell had ridden in a few races before ...you keep making excuses for them yourlack ... with punters like you i'm sure trainers will never have to answer a question ...if YOU knew it wouldn't go in the ground home come the trainer STILL ran it....

Can anyone that was at Galway let us know who was the clown in the crowd that was screaming at the top of his lungs during every race so I can track him down and punch him in the mouth. Thanks.

That bumper winner will take some beating on an easy surface, hit 24/1 in running for small money.

Mount Benbulben is not a front runner,he was held up on all three bumper runs and would appear to have been held up in Dromahane. He had used up a lot of energy fighting for his head so i doubt very much if he would have won if he had not clipped heels.

The ground was like that in gowran the last day . They got away with it albeit in a much weaker race. I think you are looking for conspiracy theories where there is none.

I know that, wasn`t it you that alerted us to his potential but all the same that was the only time he made the running.

When: 22 Oct 11 18:12
that was also the last time we saw him over jumps..he was held up in his bumpers ...so why the change of tactics today ...as i said already ..a bad race in poor conditions , why not let him jump off and enjoy himself ..he's won over futher , teach him another day..they were trying to be smart imo and got burned....

Wonky i dont see what they would achieve long term by letting the horse make the running today.  Get him setled in behind jumping amongst horses.  Early enough in the season to be letting him stride on and possibly getting a hard race.

ffs littleman you're singing from the same hymn sheet as a few more ..before i head out ..tell me in your own words what this horse was going learn from been help up today of all days ...no need to hold him up today whatever ....
By:
Bigwillystyle
When: 22 Oct 11 19:14
Just my opinion but i think he looked far too keen today and if he had let him stride on in this ground it could have taken a lot out of him.  Saying that i do not like the trainer!  999 times out of 1000 he would have stayed up and got a gap and probably have won.  From a punting perspective i can see your point.

I would sooner try and teach a horse in a weaker race than what he will be in the next day........each to their own.

lads i also think some credit should go to the winner Letter of Credit ( excuse the pun ! ) who Barry Geraghty reported after got hampered at the second last and still won 5 lenghts .........He s no bad horse in particular on ground as heavy as that .....beat good horses like black benny and alle garde on it last season also chased home probably the best bumper horse last season Samain and finished 6 th on good ground in the champion bumper ......The way Mount Benbulben pulled during the race i think he  wouldn t have beaten letter of credit if he didn t slip up .....

i'll give you my reading of the race beforehand ..he's the best horse in the race ...can front run and has won doing same ...get on with it simple....gant i see you hold the same views as gordon..why win a mickey mouse race ..when you can get it beaten ..sorry teach it how to be held up ....then get it to hopefully win its next race...Laugh
