Three shorties in the first four races with the "second coming" going in the 2nd race Laugh,I thought it would have been skinnier myself so maybe might need a blow out?

14:25 Cyprusormilan E/W - Not a fan of odds-on favs and this has run two solid races in points, second fav disappointed at Downpatrick and not a lot else in the race.

14:55 - The Second Coming is running but short and already on for Chelt so no bet.

15:25 - No Bet

16:00 - Just For Joe E/W 5/2

16:35 - No Bet

17:05 - Holly Tree E/W 25/1 - Already a course winner and ran better than usual at the meeting here in August so clearly likes the course

17:35 - Tell Dawstown E/W 14/1 - Backed to make a winning debut in a decent time at Dawstown back in May, clearly has ability and trainer has done well with similar types in the past scoring at big prices.

The second coming is odds on everywhere (8/13 with VC) 2.06 here, seems a bit generous but looked a horse with some promise last year. Can't not back it.

Agree Punchestown - not sure if Johnny Ward was taking the mick when he said it had reportedly schooled well given how he jumped at both Dromahane and Tinahely last season.

lads no getting away from how impressive mount benbulben has been but regardless how good a horse is first run back on ground as bad as its going to be around Galway ??????? ..... unless he s 100% fit which  i think it s dangerous to be backing him odds on .......
Then again the opposition don t look like they are in his class ... Letter of Credit the only one who could give him race ...fit from 2 runs over hurdles and won bumpers on bottomless ground ..

Like the look of Just for Joey against Laganbank getting 6lbs ...backed him at 5/2

I can t back a horse winner at the moment so do the opposite i say SillySillySilly

it's slashing down here, smell a couple of 50 to 1 + winners

Its funny the way different people look at races,i read Workriders excellent write up on Mount Benbulben at Tinahely and his point was this was some horse because he knocked down every fence,Princesse D`Anjou tells us he jumped poorly at Dromahane so we have established he is a poor jumper. We know he has an engine from watching his bumper wins but this is his first run over hurdles and if, as seems likely to me, he makes a mistake he could find himself behind and i can`t see Paul Carberry being hard on him.The race is full of horses with plenty of hurdling expierience well capable of hurdling at speed and that for me makes Mount Benbulben a massive lay.

When: 22 Oct 11 12:56
I thought Mount B would be a lot shorter than he is Wildman - thought that the 8/11 would come under pressure unless he's 75% fit but I've yet to see a horse plough through as many fences as he did and still win easily, he was fourth jumping the last at Dromahane and the jockey lost both reins and he still ran on into second - there were 8 subsequent winners in behind too.

Letter of Credit only ran 6 days ago so there's always a chance he'll underperform and there's not a lot else in the race though Mount B will arguably be better when stepped up to 2 1/2m++

If you were going to lay him Wildman I'd look at the place market as couldn't lay him at bigger than 4/7 myself.
By:
wildmanfromborneo
When: 22 Oct 11 13:07
I had considered laying him for a place but that market is so weak i generally ignore it.The fact that he may jump poorly could lead to Paul Carberry giving up if he finds himself far back.
Many here are far more skilful on computers than me and surely the tactic of laying him pre race and backing him in running might apply for those that like him, remember the in running layers may not be aware of his poor jumping.
So to sum up i think he is a massive lay but if you must back him back him in running because he will surely trade much bigger when he makes the inevitable mistake.

After my two projects won last night I'm playing it up today with a small each way on Oran Flyer in handicap chase. Race could fall apart an this fella has plenty of ability.

going would be of concern..but you have to remember his jumping was over fences ,if he was ever going to fall it was over fences...  so cant see him having a problem with hurdles ...

FFS Carberry - no idea what he was playing at there, rammed it right up the backend of the other horse.

When: 22 Oct 11 15:02
What is Carberry doing??....250k of a horse that could now be badly injured. Fortuntely he got up and carried on but Barry Connell will be disgusted at that and i be surprised if you see him on the horse again.

When: 22 Oct 11 15:02
In fairness the horse was pulling for his head the whole way round.
By:

When: 22 Oct 11 15:02
I am sure Barry Connell will be delighted to see 250k of horseflesh rammed into the back of other horses.

THEY knew this wouldnt be winning today.

Why not pull him wide!!!!!!!!!!!!! FFS...rammed up the arse of a bunch of horses.

paul carberry should be suspened and not allowed ride that horse again...if this is what elliot is up to ..i just hope barry takes it away as soon as possible..shocking stuff all thats rancid about irish racing ..not saying they wanted the horse to fall or anything but the way it was rode there ..imo it wasn't going to win today....

have a look at the race yourlack ..he nearly got him brought down earlier ..btw this horse is  front runner ..just hope it hasn't soured a most promising horse...

IMO if u employ someone like Carberry you deserve what you get. From Brilliance to rancid in a blink of a eye.
By:

When: 22 Oct 11 15:14
i have to say  i am in total agreement with yourlack on this one .......firstly he went off at 2.62 on the off so i imagine he was pulling his way down to the start .........during the race he was pulling the head off carberry , you could clearly see at the hurdle just after the winning post with a circuit to go he ran right up the arses of the field after jumping it .... for those who think he should have gone wide , obviously giving a horse thats pulling hard no cover , ye might aswell have torn up yere dockets then cause he would have had no chance of getting home at galway  ..It s seriously unfortunate what happend , lets hope he s ok

workrider to call for a suspension on carberry is laughable
By:
wildmanfromborneo
When: 22 Oct 11 15:15
I hate to disagree with Workrider but he is not a front runner and the fact is he didn`t settle in the race. All Carberry tried to do was settle the horse, what happened was an accident is anyone seriously saying he did it deliberately.
By:
yourlack
When: 22 Oct 11 15:17
He was trying to teach him how to race like noone else like paul can. Just cause he went from the front in his bumpers for a different trainer doesnt mean he has to for this trainer. There is some engine there.
By:
workrider
When: 22 Oct 11 15:19
he won his p2p from the front....he should have at least let him see a hurdle ...terrible ride and no question...no one saying he did it on purpose but the way he rode it it was almost bound to happen...
By:
rubyisgodinthesaddle
When: 22 Oct 11 15:20
But at the end of the day lads a horse that cost 250k has been felled in a maiden hurdle that looked a very very nasty fall indeed. Barry Connell will not be impressed no matter what they were trying.
By:
Princesse D'Anjou
When: 22 Oct 11 15:22
He's riding a very valuable horse - he's tucked it in behind inferior horses and when it became clear the horse was travelling so well and running free he's done nothing.

Keeping him in behind others he was always going to risk that happening - he should have let him stride on IMO and given him a real sight of his hurdles.

He appeared to jump well but there were a couple shown on the reverse angle that didn't look too clever.
