I watched a stream of their game against slovakia while their goal lived a bit of a charmed existence particulary first half their keeper making some fine saves but they do look pretty decent going forward although the 0-4 scoreline flattered them.

All depends on traps tactics if he's a little bit ambitious without throwing caution to wind which is anathema to him anyway I can see both sides scoring, might well turn out to be a nerve wracking night for the Irish supporters, Armenia have to win so their going to have a right go which might leave a few gaps at the back for Ireland to exploit having said that with Keane out we're not exactly flushed with decent strikers, but if the game remains 0-0 going into the last 20 mins you can see trap parking the bus, so many imponderables, both teams to score at around 1/1 money doesn't exactly scream great value.

never thought i hear myself even think this aloud , never mind put it up on a forum..but is a sad sort of way i wont be saddened if we dont make this finals ..let me rephrase that...i wont get myself in a real downer if we dont make it tonight ....trap has given us a name as a side to beat...nothing more or less....now as a football fan who over a great many years has seen our country go from mediocre to reasonable ..to what i can only discribe as dreadful...for us to grace a european finals playing the type of football rubbish we are now would in my mind set us back years...when trappatoni came along i was delighted...but over the years my enthusiasm has evaporated completely...all i see now is an attitude of stop them..full stop..that to me has been the death of soccer as i know it...i really hope we qualify tonight but if it comes down to it that we dont ..i for one wont be in mourning to long..

As a soccer man,I have been disappointed with the abscence of entertainment that the national team now provide under Trap,I wouldn't go tonight for that very reason,I couldn't even continue watching the Andorra game,it was such poor entertainment.

Where do we go,do we provide entertainment and not qualify or bore everybody to death and not qualify?

Patriotic punting. You see it with England games too. Price always contracts about 2-3 hours before the match. Most people hate betting against the result they want to see with their heart. They want to be able to win with their heart and their pocket.

It doesn't bother me

The standard of British/Irish football is wank. The attitude to football in these parts of the world is wrong, the wrong mindset is brainwashed into players from a young age and this is what you see. Armenia can count themselves very unlucky. We are truly disgusting to watch and it makes me sick tbh, the national version of stoke
Report yort October 11, 2011 9:45 PM BST
so how will the seeding work, have we a chance? I would seriously doubt it given previous history and the quality of teams left in....Im sure if there is any wriggle room for UEFA with how the seeding is done we definitely wont be seeded
Report thefly10 October 11, 2011 9:48 PM BST
WWCD you've hit the nail on its head. We are still in the Dark Ages in terms of how we play football.
Report Dan Chipowski October 11, 2011 9:50 PM BST
Not a lot of positives from a playing perspective tonight, but then again we never really expected any. Silly

Given was poor for their goal, St. Ledger was very jittery. Duff was decent as always, McGeady very poor in possession, the two boys in central mid embarrassing as always and Doyle seems to get worse by the game.

Cox was a positive, he worked hard but that can't disguise the fact he has limited ability. Walters did well when he came on.

I hope we win the playoff, but if we're beaten then Trap's time is up and a new manager can start building the team around McCarthy, Coleman, Long, etc.
Report yummy October 11, 2011 9:52 PM BST
Very little coverage of deliberate handball leading to goalkeepers sending off.  Thierry Henry would not approve... at least he apoolgised
Report Winner_Winner_Chicken_Diner October 11, 2011 9:59 PM BST
Trapdoor toni obviously doesnt help matters. A very nice gentleman, no doubt and a great manager but his tactics belong to a dead era. Attitude to football here is.....kick it into the channels, work hard, fight for second balls, get in opponents faces, kick them, do whatever to put them of. I am fcuking sick of watching those two cart horses in centre midfield, in particular Andrews Cry Look at the Armenia players and how classy they were on the ball. Needs a total change of mindset
Report ReimerpYsatnaf October 11, 2011 10:00 PM BST
Puzzled me how the RTE panel think it was inconclusive whether the keeper handled the ball or not, he quite clearly did not handle the ball.

Even more amazing was when sky showed the ref before the 2nd half the incident on a monitor with the clear angle and he still said he handled the ball Laugh Surely UEFa should not let this clown referee any more big games.

The ref also missed a clear pen for Ireland near the end and gave a corner Laugh

Oh yes and we are cack, can barely string 2 passes together, thank god the ref gave the red card and that loon scored the hilarous own goal as we would not have beat them had those 2 things gone in our favour.

I agree neill d, get the footballers on the pitch, the few we have anyway. Imo, you could then get something out of Mc Geady. I would love to see Ireland play fahey, a player with composure and ability
Report neill d October 11, 2011 10:11 PM BST
agreed, It won't change now, but if by some miracle we qualify, he should really make an effort to integrate them.
Report Rocketfingers October 12, 2011 1:39 AM BST
Just back delighted with the win, 21 points is a decent haul from the group. Simon Cox is a good player i really like this lad he is an intelligent footballer. Walters done well when he came on but Kelly was poor and McGeady is an absolute shocker of player imo. I thought we were the better team when it was 11 v 11. We may have got the breaks tonight but Doyle should have scored from the cross that lead to that OG anyway, actually all the goals tonight were soft. At times we played some decent ball  and we deserved our win with us sitting back in the second half. One last thing i thought the atmosphere in the ground tonight was quite good and will be back for the playoff.
Report ReimerpYsatnaf October 12, 2011 9:31 AM BST
We played some decent ball rocketfingers? We where the better team when it was 11 v 11? Think you got caught up in the athmosphere. We couldn't string 2 passes together when it was 11 v 11.
Report Rocketfingers October 12, 2011 11:14 AM BST
You're listening too much to that fool Dunphy premier, when it was 11 v 11 Ireland had a great chance via Doyle, they had none, nothing on target during the period from them and no way imo to say they were on top. I honestly thought we tried to take the ball down at 'times', and use it which was a big positive on the last few matches, obviously i would like to see much more of it. In the second half at 2-1 we sat deep alright but we were not hanging on exactly, people want us to attack all the time that's a little naive imo. I thought the 15 minutes after half times we nearly got in a few times with Cox and Kelly via neat play and this period was our best in the match.

They had some lovely footballers, number 14 and 18 and was it number 6 all very good technical players, they're a decent side but they looked weak at the back and defending is part of the game too and i thought we defended very well last night bar the goal. That's my view of it anyway i thought they were positives from it first 60 Ireland last 30 belonged to Armenia when we decided to defend. I had Armenia bet pre-match and fair enough we got the breaks but Hunt looked like he had a stonewall penalty not given, so i don't think they were exceptionally unlucky. Anybody i spoke to after the game seemed to think it was an ok match, i thought this game was watchable.
