Report wildmanfromborneo April 29, 2011 5:34 PM BST
There was racing and the clue is in the question.
Report STELLAR MANIPULATOR April 29, 2011 8:51 PM BST
Q10 answer is the English racetrack Hurst Park which went the same way as ''the Park'' ( closed and built on )

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to which was the only year the Irish champion Stakes was run right handed and why ?
Report wildmanfromborneo April 29, 2011 9:21 PM BST
Well done again Stellar,Hurst Park is correct, closed down in 1962 home of the Triumph Hurdle and Victoria Cup was situated on the bank of the Thames.
I thought the Champion Stakes was run right handed at the Phoenix Park.

I have a recollection of Doctor Devious winning a race at the Curragh that could have been the Champion Stakes.I hope its true because there would be a lovely irony if it was,Sangster fell out with Vincent OBrien and named Doctor Devious after him and it was the triumvirate of Sangster Magnier and OBrien that sold the Phoenix Park for building...greedy.
Report Know Won Nose April 29, 2011 11:11 PM BST
Dr Devious won a champion stakes at Leopardstown. The only time he ran at the Curragh was when 2nd to St Jovite in the derby.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 30, 2011 10:11 AM BST
Know Won Nose does indeed know,i remember now there was a photo finish took about 20 minutes to separate them but Stellar Manipulater says it was run right handed one year so i am presuming it was The Curragh
Report celticboy April 30, 2011 11:08 AM BST
Was Mad Jack Baldy Flood?
Report wildmanfromborneo April 30, 2011 11:32 AM BST
No but Mad Jack is correct.
Q8.The three photo finish experts to come a cropper at the Phoenix Park were Edward Flood Major Vernon and Mad Jack.
If they dont answer Q7 shortly you will have to help them.

The one time the Irish Champion was run right handed was at the Phoenix Park . Races could be run left handed or right handed and the winner of this edition has been in the news recently. I heard a fascinating theory recently as to why the race was run right handed and the clue lies in the then ownership of the racetrack.

Q13. Why in Gods name was there a Railway Station opened here? Does anyone even use it?!
Report Giant Strides May 1, 2011 9:58 AM BST
There was another video on You Tube of Indian Skimmers win there but I can`t find it anymore. From what I remember the camera angle appeared different. Did they always run right handed or did they ever change that and run the other way around?

STELLAR, that was one of the things I asked on the initial thread I started. Among other questions, it wasn`t answered!!!
Sadlers Wells won right handed but it looked like Indian Skimmer won on the other side of the course. Please clarify.
Report observerirl May 1, 2011 12:39 PM BST
Giant, there were two straights at the Park. One on the Navan Road side(clockwise track) and the other down the middle of the course(anti clockwise track). Races could be either clockwise or anti depending on which course was used but irrespective of which course was used all races finished in a left hand straight.
Report kincsem May 1, 2011 7:05 PM BST
I'm old enough to have been to the course.  It confused me with the horses nowhere in sight, then a quick glimpse of them as they flashed by the post.
Report kincsem May 1, 2011 7:07 PM BST
Which questions were answered correctly and which are unanswered?
Report kincsem May 1, 2011 7:09 PM BST
Timarida (filly) won the Irish Champion Stakes.

Champion Stakes when run at the Park were always as shown in the O P.
Report STELLAR MANIPULATOR May 2, 2011 1:03 AM BST
Sadlers Wells won the only Irish Champion run clockwise , am led to believe that his connections may have had a say in running it that way.
Report wildmanfromborneo May 4, 2011 11:07 PM BST
