Just stopped snowing where i am about a 10 minute drive from the track, place is covered in snow again

The country faces several more days of sub-zero temperatures, with conditions unlikely to improve until Christmas Eve at the earliest.
Met Éireann has forecast that most of the country will remain dry. But there is a risk of snow showers in parts of the south, north and east over the coming days.
Weather forecaster Joan Blackburn said milder temperatures are due to arrive on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day when a belt of rain is due to cross the country.

If thats the case down, is there a chance the ground will be unable to cope with a sudden thaw/rain and become saturated?

Unreal snow here tonight, would be 15 mins from track.
Looks like we will get a thaw starting xmas eve day, so hopefully no more snow.

Met office said this morning the thaw wont start until Xmas day.
A mate who lives in Froxrock told me they had drifts in places on the course, and nearly a foot of snow.
Leading Bookmakers Ladbrokes have priced up odds of racing taking place on St. Stephen's Day and lets hope they have got their prices right as they make Leopardstown a short price to get the green light on 26th December.
The firm are offering combined odds of 5/4 that racing on St Stephen's Day will go ahead at both Leopardstown and Limerick.
Leopardstown is 30/100 to be on while Limerick is less likely in their book to be beat the weather at odds of 4/7.
Those wanting to hedge their bets can back a cancelled Leopardstown on 26th at 5/2. Not a bad bet - if racing is off you back a winner; if racing is on you can back several!

Judging from my weather forecasts it will be very wet and windy on stephens day with temps of 5-8. 27th will be dry with temps of 8 or 9. 28th will be dry.

The fact that you cant even see some of the pics due to snow hardly inspires confidence. I live a cpl miles from track and trudged through a foot and a half of snow on way to work this morn. That thaw will need to be Meditarranean...
Rain & wind is the only hope, and that will obviously bring its own problems.

1.Leopardstown (I live there) was hit worse than anyplace the last time and it is the same this time. That said when the thaw came there was no snow on the ground (racing ground) within 36 hours. It really was remamrkable how quickly it cleared. However the approach roads and enclosures took several days to clear.
2. Just heard on the radio there that it will not thaw before Christmas day. If that is so then the 26th cannot be on. I'd imagine they will rejig the days or else move the 26th to the last day.
In their favour is that nearly all the tickets are multi day tickets so they are valid any day. The only ones to appease are the sponsors and the connections of horses.

I just noticed in my new PP diary that Leopardstown and Galway have given over next year's October bank holiday to Wexford. Perhaps the snow will be over by then and they'll run the St. Stephen's Day card then!

Really heavy snow today, left work early and by the time I got home there was inches of the stuff after falling. Can't see it going ahead unfortunately

not to far away , and its snowed all day here no chance imo unless as someone on here already said , we get medd like weather .
As I said before I live there. Was at the Gym last night and the palce is under 2 feet of snow everywhere. Even the work vans doing up the stands are stuck in the betting ring. Snowed again last night.

It all depends on when the thaw comes. There was another snow storm alert on the news last night. If the Snow last night was it then the rest of the days should be alright but the 26th could have been called off a long time ago. Laddies went 4/9 it to be off on Monday it was a steal

The prospect of Leopardstown's four-day Christmas meeting going ahead as scheduled from St Stephen's Day is looking increasingly bleak following further snow at the Dublin track.
“There is about eight inches of snow on the track at the moment, and we will make an announcement later today on possible plans,” said General Manager Tom Burke on RTE Radio this morning.
“It is very disappointing for every one involved in the racing industry when we get into a position like this."
"A huge amount of work has been put in by our staff to ensure we have a successful meeting,” added Burke, who revealed that 35-40% of the track's annual income is generated at the Christmas meeting.

In the meantime, temperatures will struggle to get above 0C with severe frost at night. There is also the possibility of further snow showers along the east coast over the next few days.

The only small chance is if the Weather Forecast is wrong and the thaw comes early. Stephens day is gone but there is still time in the week for a full programme in the rest of the week.
Obviously Burke is howling as there would be a record crowd there on Sunday with a record spend at the Bar, food etc.

Just another update here. I did not go to work today. Sat down in front of my laptop looking out the window. Our hedge had over a foot of snow on it at 10AM. The sun has now melted the whole lot of it in just over an hour.
So it just goes to show when the thaw arrives it will turn around quickly.
It really all depends on if there is another snow storm. So not all is lost yet
