I see a market up here on the above and weather watch updates on http://betting.betfair.ie/irish-racing/. Odds against must be value at odds against? Anyone in the area with a strong opinion?

The country faces several more days of sub-zero temperatures, with conditions unlikely to improve until Christmas Eve at the earliest.
Met Éireann has forecast that most of the country will remain dry. But there is a risk of snow showers in parts of the south, north and east over the coming days. Weather forecaster Joan Blackburn said milder temperatures are due to arrive on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day when a belt of rain is due to cross the country. Christmas Day: It seems likely now that a much milder south to southeast airflow will extend countrywide on Christmas Day with outbreaks of rain bringing a rapid thaw with temperatures rising to 9 or 10 degrees and no frost Christmas night. St Stephen's Day: Further outbreaks of rain in a southwesterly wind and temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees.

A mate who lives in Froxrock told me they had drifts in places on the course, and nearly a foot of snow.

Leading Bookmakers Ladbrokes have priced up odds of racing taking place on St. Stephen's Day and lets hope they have got their prices right as they make Leopardstown a short price to get the green light on 26th December.
The firm are offering combined odds of 5/4 that racing on St Stephen's Day will go ahead at both Leopardstown and Limerick. Leopardstown is 30/100 to be on while Limerick is less likely in their book to be beat the weather at odds of 4/7. Those wanting to hedge their bets can back a cancelled Leopardstown on 26th at 5/2. Not a bad bet - if racing is off you back a winner; if racing is on you can back several! Ladbrokes fear the UK fixtures will be badly hit and offer odds of 5/4 about kempton racing and 6/4 for Chepstow to beat the freeze the following day. Hayley O'Connor of Ladbrokes said: "The return of the snowfall has definitely put the Christmas fixtures in jeopardy, but we're going to remain hopeful that temperatures rise for some of the busiest meetings of the year." |

Judging from my weather forecasts it will be very wet and windy on stephens day with temps of 5-8. 27th will be dry with temps of 8 or 9. 28th will be dry.

The fact that you cant even see some of the pics due to snow hardly inspires confidence. I live a cpl miles from track and trudged through a foot and a half of snow on way to work this morn. That thaw will need to be Meditarranean...

I can barely get out of me house
 my leg sinks down into the snow FFS and im only a 10 minute drive away, we need a change in the weather and a change soon to hold any chance in my opinion |

2 things.
1.Leopardstown (I live there) was hit worse than anyplace the last time and it is the same this time. That said when the thaw came there was no snow on the ground (racing ground) within 36 hours. It really was remamrkable how quickly it cleared. However the approach roads and enclosures took several days to clear. 2. Just heard on the radio there that it will not thaw before Christmas day. If that is so then the 26th cannot be on. I'd imagine they will rejig the days or else move the 26th to the last day. In their favour is that nearly all the tickets are multi day tickets so they are valid any day. The only ones to appease are the sponsors and the connections of horses. I'd say racing St. Stephens day in Leopardstown has very little chance on current evidence |

I just noticed in my new PP diary that Leopardstown and Galway have given over next year's October bank holiday to Wexford. Perhaps the snow will be over by then and they'll run the St. Stephen's Day card then!

I suppose the excuse is that there is so much snow on top of the ground they don't know what condition its in. Latest forecast from http://www.irishweatheronline.com/2010/12/21-dec-2010-long-range-weather-forecast.html SUNDAY (St. Stephen's Day) ... This is still very much of a puzzler with the models ranging from snow to cold and dry to sleet, fog, rain. The most likely outcome at this stage is snow mixing with sleet but this may change as we move closer to the day. We'll keep a close watch on this. Potentially, it could warm up considerably in the southwest but stay very cold in Ulster, with bands of mixed precipitation in between. That would involve a lot of bad weather (fog, ice and snow. Also thawing and flooding in some areas.) But it may not get that mild so the results may be more along the lines of a snowfall event. OUTLOOK ... Milder will be shortlived should it arrive. Very cold air will return from the east before New Years. It could conceivably never get much milder than 2-4 C before that happens. |
