tipped up his 1st winner today in ages man. what paper were you reading
Report Man-O-War October 26, 2010 10:22 PM BST
i suppose u tink u should be writing for the post now since u tipped a few winners yesterday. sure JW is the irish pricewise. he gives a expert opinion on every race he analyse's and shrewd in running tips..
Report steeringjobnap October 28, 2010 2:45 PM BST
He wouldn't tip **** out of a bucket
Report kavvie October 28, 2010 3:08 PM BST
jw a good sort.would talk to people and has a good handle on whats going on.his sun indo column very good
Report steeringjobnap October 28, 2010 3:30 PM BST
advising the outsider in a level-ball draw no-bet AH is hardy earth shattering stuff...

putting up KS to win his fifth KG IV is also pretty straightforward...except that the world & his mother saw that the 2/1 was wrong; and had already murdered the price...
Report kavvie October 28, 2010 3:44 PM BST
and what would u advise him to do?put up the bets as lays?a winner is a winner.
Report steeringjobnap October 28, 2010 3:49 PM BST
the column is called VALUE BETTING

I expect value, not winners [a subtle, yet important distinction].

Putting up one of NH racing superstars' at a price that was available for a nano-second will look good on the level stakes profit tracker [at 3.0]...but is hardly much good to Joe Public now, is it?...
Report kavvie October 28, 2010 3:52 PM BST
value can be 2/1 dont you agree?.1/2 can be value if the chance of it winning is 1/4.he has given lots of long priced ones.a lot better than some of the newpaper tipsters who just tip the fav as a matter of course.he has a genuine intrest in the game and it shows
Report steeringjobnap October 28, 2010 3:56 PM BST
Every price is value - it just depends on which side of the book you are on.

Not that I would follow a tipster, as rather strangely, I like to construct my own price tissues & exploit the biggest differentials cf. the market.

Although I had noticed the appalling run he was on in his RP column...

You are missing the point I am making in my last post re: price advised. Compare & contrast that to Steve Palmer's approach.
Report kavvie October 28, 2010 4:13 PM BST
i dont think hes trying to pull the woll over anyones eyes re prices.?...i gather information before i bet and i read his column for a  good reasoned view on what he thinks of various events. hes often wrong but hes often right.thats all im saying

j .ward is only human and doing his best in all honest (i hope), but all this negative banter must add more pressure to him, and thats not fair to him........... i don't think he's posted in a long time on his emi  username........ (has he others?)

he should be  let post on here in peace, and defend himself if need be, and all these 2 euro knockers  get a life.

time tells all imo.

He`s clearly in a in too  privileged a position for some posters.
It`s a tough job and I wouldn`t like to have my betting constantly under the microscope.
The stick the likes of p r i c e wise gets is completely ridiculous.
I`m pretty sure he hasn`t posted since he started that column. Maybe he was instructed not to, or maybe he`s changed his identity like some other fruitcakes on here. [smiley:crazy]
I did have one criticism recently where he jumped the gun and presumed the LOI was over when it clearly wasn`t.
Stick to the facts in future Johnny! Sad

I always smile when critics are accused of 2 yo-yo punting.

Question for those defending JVW so - do you believe he has a conflict of interest in his work in (a) providing BF with Irish horse-racing tissue prices pre-race cf. (b) seperately advising punters to then back selections in Irish racing in the RP?
Report Giant Strides October 29, 2010 10:57 AM BST
providing BF with Irish horse-racing tissue prices pre-race cf.
Excuse my ignorance but where can I find this?
Report steeringjobnap October 29, 2010 11:12 AM BST
It's mentioned as one of his occupations on his social networking site.

I imagine the process is that he supplies the prices, scaled to say 105%, to BF; BF racing traders then populate the win/place markets with same, using house money as the offer cash, via their own bots.

I hardly expect them to price-up using static offers, so robots make the most sense.

Am open to correction on the above, of course...but that would be my take on it.

giant makes a very valid point , i know i go  down to the parade before most races and consider myself a good judge of a horses fitness , yet even after lots of study and looking at them in the parade ring i get it wrong more often than not . so if people were scrutinizing my bets i would find it hard to justify the time and effort for the fiancial rewards i get . i've met johnny a good few times while racing and find him a good hard working lad and wish him all the best .

Always seemed an affable knowledgeable type of fella, His Sunday Independent column is good. Compared with some of the tipsters in the daily papers he is excellent. The guy in the Star just tips 2/5 favourites and suggests putting them all in a yankee ffs, better than that auctioneering guy on RTE also.

That Europe's top tipster thing is a joke!! Who is he up against? Who keeps the statistics? And sure nobody else tips in races in Longchamp, Philadelphia Park, Saratoga and places like that, so it would be easy for him to nap the most winners!!!!

If he is such a good tipster why did he pull out of The Irish Field naps table??? I'll tell you why because he would only embarass himself in it!!!!

I would give him loads of credit if he had not used his "weekly portfolio" column to talk through his pocket and slag off the players and manager. Not welcome in Tallaght in my opinion.
