Would be big on soft ground but weather reports suggest going will be better than Solwhit would ideally like it

By:
Twas a big price for last years Aintree hurdle too until somebody came on here and told everybody twasnt running.

don't shoot the messenger...

I agree. I would have him fav. Muddling race and hard to find value although if solwhit were to drift much further it would tempt me to have a bet.
By:
Don't think the ground will impede Solwhit's chances.
He's fast and contrary to popular belief, he does have a turn of foot. Look at the acceleration after the last in the Morgiana. Prerequisite is a fast pace and thats it. And if previous Champion Hurdles can be taken as a guide, the pace will be searching! I could see him coming off the bridle a lot earlier than the big guns but he'll keep finding and finding once he's got something to chase. The presence of Go Native could be ideal for Solwhit as he'll gave him a trail into the race. And after that, I think Solwhit will motor up the hill. |
By:
go native won't be in front of solwhit throughout the race imo
By:
Except for in the last 250yds and at the line? ;\
By:
maybe...lol. I honestly have no idea what will win this race but there is no way Go Native will tow Solwhit into the race. The other way around maybe...
By:
Funnily enough, I think Solwhit will be peeling off Go Native's heels rather than the way around. Go Native might want to follow horses as well, Carberry will be playing his cards late but I'd be surprised if Russell committed too early either (i.e. before the last). Solwhit, to me, wants to chase horses, wants to come between horses, wants to blow by horses and once he does, he idles a small bit. I can see him powering up the hill provided he's got something in front of him jumping the last.

if ground comes up good, the one thing go native has that the rest really dont is a 10l burst that can leave horses standing. Three times he used this, at corner in chelt last year, in kempton after last and in newcastle. I know there are ecuses for newcstle pace but for me GN would have done that of a fast pace too, he just has that gear. If PC can jump the last about 3-4l down he will just hit lead half way up run in and take about 5l out of field, better the ground, the better chance there is that he wont come back to the field but as per last 3 races, he steels enough to hang on and hopefully he does again, for fellow county man to take the million, who has been in trouble with his back for last while and I would love to see him turn the corner. roll on 16/03/10

You are some joker Viva Pataca.

By:
Make you feel big picking fights with anonymous people on forums?
By:
I'm not picking a fight. I'm accusing you of being on a wind up as no sane individual with an interest in racing could agree with your assertions here.
By:
Crazy as it may sound, some people actually fancy the 2nd fav tgm.
Go Native may make them (and me) look a fool but we're not sold yet. |
By:
Fair enough, you don't agree. But if Starluck could comeback at Go Native like he did at Kempton, then surely Solwhit and the likes will be coming back at him up the hill! And as I say, if Solwhit's got something to chase, he'll keep finding until he goes by them, Davy Russell's words after the Festival Hurdle at Christmas.
By:
I agree Viva.
Solwhit was done for toe in the Fighting Fifth but had the race been another 2 furlongs I think he'd have got there. Go Native had burst that gets him clear. Did it in his last 3 races (can't count Down Royal) but I just think that one better than Medermit can outstay him up the hill. Of course we may not have seen the best of Go Native yet but I'm pretty confident that he doesn't have a whole lot more. |
By:
The stats are against Go Native as very few horses go onto win the Champion Hurdle the year following their win in Supreme Hurdle and Punjabi failed to collect the £1m bonus when he fell last year. So something will come and rescue the sponsors of the bonus and the bookies.
I don't think Solwith will win either as he has had a hard campaign and has not been tested in Cheltenham. I think Punjabi will go close and I'll wait for BG to pick his ride before backing him. |
By:
Does nobody else feel that a win for Solwhit would be a sickener for the integrity of racing? EMI, maybe a messenger for this stable deserves to be shot. Any thoughts?
By:
:) Good luck to anyone who has backed the horse, but I hope he loses, purely and simply due to the trainer.
By:
Long shadow - are you Hen Knight? Solwhit has had 3 runs so far this season so hardly a touch campaign. He had 5 runs before Christmas last season - some of them mightnt have taken a lot out of him - and he was still able to win the Red Mills, Aintree Hurdle and Punchestown in the second half of the season. This obsession with molly-coddling horses for Cheltenham really could become detrimental to the rest of the season.

I'm sorry but I will have to pull you up on that one. Solwhit does not have a turn of foot. He is a relentless galloper and in the Morgiana he galloped away form Muirhead (who was up and down in the one spot and hasn't done a stroke all year) and Hurricane Fly (debatable about how good he really is). He has a serious constitution and a good travelling speed (aided by accurate jumping) but he has no Grade 1 kick like Go Native has. He obviously isn't slow but there are several horses with more gears than him. |

Cailin Deas, you back on the DJ circuit? Whats the reasoning behind alternating between monikers and genders? The point made with regard to connections is a legitimate one.

SUBLIMITY, winner of the 2007 Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle, has been ruled out of this year's race with a leg injury.
Sublimity disappointed in last season's renewal, but had been "working better than ever" after a wind operation by vet Ben Brain this time around, finishing second to Go Native in the WBX.com Fighting Fifth Hurdle and two placings behind Solwhit at Leoparstown. Those displays left the 10-year-old as short as 12-1 with Boylesports to become the first since Comedy Of Errors in 1975 to regain the Champion Hurdle crown and trainer Robbie Hennessy had been delighted with his final serious gallop at Leopardstown last Sunday. However, after a routine canter earlier this week Sublimity took "the first lame step of his life" and a vet examination confirmed Hennessy's fears. |

Huge blow for the Hennessy's that.

Thats why I hate Ante post.
Davy Russell was well pleased after racing today. 1) He is on Solwhit a likely winner of the Champion Hurdle. 2) He had a winner today. Cass Bligh. 3) He was looking at a Gold Cup prospect in the parade ring after the last. First Lieutenant. 4) And finally he had no Cheltenham preview to go to tonight!! |

Must be none on so. He's on every other panel :)

solwhit great price

think solwhit is extremely vulnerable to a turn a foot from his talented rivals...is probably a good place lay imho
By:
Everything ok with Solwhit?? 7 now and nt much on de lay side
By:
7.4 last price matched
By:
perhaps its just down to the weather drying up the course
By:
I'd say so pf, this was always likely.
Just need EMI to confirm he's a nr now. :^0 |
By:
EMI are you worried? There was never any speculation that he wouldn't run if the ground was good so I suspect something may be up.
By:
Don`t worry backers. Claisse will dump half the contents of the local reservoir on it for the next week!

Bad scope leaves Solwhit Champion bid in doubt
BY RACINGPOST.COM STAFF 12:24PM 8 MAR 2010 SOLWHIT's participation in the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle, for which he is second favourite, is in serious doubt after he scoped dirty on Monday morning. Speaking shortly after midday, trainer Charles Byrnes told the Racing Post: "The news is bad. Solwhit scoped dirty less than half an hour ago and while he is not definitely outof the Champion Hurdle there has to be a serious doubt about him running. "He has to go on antibiotics until Thursday and things are very much up in the air. It's the last thing we wanted to happen, but I've spoken with his owners and they want everyone to know the situation." The six-year-old was as short as 4-1 for the Champion Hurdle. |
