Tbh am not too taken with todays action, so have been looking at Naas's card tomorrow which usually throws up some nice types, and tomorrow's card looks to be a cracker.

Just looking at the Bumper, has thrown up some quality horses the past 5 years -
2009 Coole River 5 11-9 7/4F Mrs John Harrington Mr M Fahey 119
2008 An Cathaoir Mor 5 11-9 14/1 Henry De Bromhead Mr D Roche 111
2007 Venalmar 5 11-12 7/2 M F Morris Mr K E Power 119
2006 Jagoes Mills 4 10-13 12/1 Thomas Gerard O'Leary Ms K Walsh 99
2005 Knight Legend 6 11-7 8/1 Mrs John Harrington Mr R O'Sullivan 106

Half brother to Joncol, Seafield looks the stand out here.

Too slow
Report yourbestmate March 6, 2010 6:43 PM GMT
Tel Quel would be a big negative here.
I guess they simply did not know how good the dam was going to be when they were using these sires.
Report Shotgun Willy March 6, 2010 6:46 PM GMT
Longueville Manor is about the only winner i can think of that TQ got, a grey staying hcap hurdler for Jonjo
Report rooste March 6, 2010 6:49 PM GMT
Dom D'orgeval won a pile of races in france
Report Shotgun Willy March 6, 2010 6:51 PM GMT
Yes. Harrington's 2nd is the best form on offer of those that have been out
Report downallstar March 6, 2010 6:53 PM GMT
Yeah I suppose that sire is a negative, even if the half brother and sister both won bumpers fto. Kakagh did finish 4th in a bumper and win a mdn hurdle for the sire. Will see what the market says.
Besides enough good racing.
Report yourbestmate March 6, 2010 6:55 PM GMT
There has been a strong word going around for him though, so sire or no sire, he must be ok.
Report downallstar March 6, 2010 6:59 PM GMT
Cheers ybm.
Was anyone here at the pt2pt when he was beaten by Sizing Mexico? Looks like he just bumped into one that day!?
Report Shotgun Willy March 6, 2010 7:02 PM GMT
was there. Well well beaten by sizing. Maybe im all wrong but he didnt look ata all a bumper type that day
Report downallstar March 6, 2010 7:08 PM GMT
Cheers Shotgun, yeah it takes a goodun to win a pt2pt and a bumper.
Report Shotgun Willy March 6, 2010 7:11 PM GMT
JJ Walsh has a good one in the first i think
Report downallstar March 6, 2010 7:12 PM GMT
Hope so, backed it the last day, drifted and still won.
Report yourbestmate March 6, 2010 7:17 PM GMT
Jessie thinks plenty of her horse that was beaten by Willie's the last day. I would probably side with him in this race but prices will dictate.
Report downallstar March 6, 2010 7:19 PM GMT
Think Rare Bob will take all the beating tomorrow, he looked amazing after racing last Sunday.
Report Shotgun Willy March 6, 2010 7:21 PM GMT
Ya, good call, definitely back to last seasons form id say
Report yourbestmate March 6, 2010 7:33 PM GMT
How can you possibly gauge his wellbeing based on that gallop?
What weight was he carrying? I think it was B Cooper was riding him?
If anything that gallop last weekend is going to result in him being artificially short in the market tomorrow, as the books saw everything that the punters did.
Report ChildOfMine2 March 6, 2010 7:37 PM GMT
You're not biased DA? Won't be easy carrying top weight tho!
Report thatsurcoco March 6, 2010 7:38 PM GMT
joncol is by bobs return and sure he didnt look a bumper type but that didnt stop him winning one in thurles admittedly over 2m2f and finishing 2nd in winners in naas.this looked a big raw type in dromahane and can only improve for the run.has been given time since then and if nolan didnt think he would run well in a bumper he would have been put away with a view to hurdling next year.another plus is ability to handle ground and you need a stayer around naas. looks to have mrs harringtons horse to beat.
Report downallstar March 6, 2010 7:39 PM GMT
Fair point - just think he was full of himself, looked in great health, I'm just going by what my eye tells me. He just caught my eye, wasn't asked a question fto this season, and is a G1 horse in a hcap, but as always will make up my mind in the morning.

Just back from Gowran. The whispers I heard were.

Race 1) Silver Friend. Good to see Eddie Power keep the ride now that Kevin Coleman is back. Amazing Kevin takes over on the fav Whodoyouthink.

Race 2) Zaritto. Was told all he has to do is stand up and win.

Race 4) Casey Supreme. Was told this is the right race for him and should be thereabouts.

Race 7) Oscars Well. Heard this was well fancied on his debut. Ran into a smart W P newcomer that day. DAS, Arthur Moore told me a good while back that the dam line represents 80% and the sire line 20% in the offspring. So on that basis Seafield must be good.
Report ChildOfMine2 March 6, 2010 7:58 PM GMT
You're probably right, he defo looked in top form that day. Bit of a puzzlertho as Dessie said time was running out ahead of Chelt but then declares him here.
Report galway59 March 6, 2010 7:59 PM GMT
Paul Nolans horse in the bumper isnt worth 5 pence,it was destroyed in Dromahane. How is that thing going to win a bumper in Naas.
Report downallstar March 6, 2010 8:02 PM GMT
Com - that is playing on my mind, does he need this run?

Cheers soapp.

Hopefully I won't need to have a bet in the bumper!
Report ChildOfMine2 March 6, 2010 8:15 PM GMT
I think he's probably gonna see how he goes tomorrow. If he wins, he goes to the festival and if not, he stays at home!
Report The Gotchee March 6, 2010 8:38 PM GMT
My two E/W bets tomorrow are WHATS NEW in the handicap hurdle and BLUESEA CRACKER in the handicap chase. Christy Roche's horses are coming into form and I think Whats New is ready to run a big race at a nice price. He ran particularly well in a similar grade last time out.He was well backed until withdrawn at the start in his most recent engagement, 16s to 8s. I can see money for this one so get on early. I visualise this one travelling on the bridal going to the last and hopefully he will find the necessary turn of foot. Bluesea Cracker ran no sort of race last time out. This mare who is a Grade 2 winner over fences appears to be very nicely weighted. She should come on for her most recent run and is also going to be a working man's price.
Report rooste March 6, 2010 9:17 PM GMT
My two are WHATS NEW a real eye catcher at Punchestown LTO. Also Kings advocate has been running over inadequate trips step up to 3 mile looks likely to bring about further improvement

angus house is my nap, last time it ran at naas it ran on strongly , 3ml tomorrow up its street .
Report Allduckornodinner March 7, 2010 9:18 AM GMT
Word of warning about Angus House is that he hardly jumped a fence in his only p2p start. Hurdles easier to jump but not by much. Willie probably has his jumping ironed out by now but there must be some sort of doubt
Report Allduckornodinner March 7, 2010 9:22 AM GMT
Sorry he actually had two starts and fell on one of them. Just remembered his other run now.
Report An Mhi March 7, 2010 9:42 AM GMT
on the seafield debate, all I can say from talking to PN is that the mare is unreal, think what was actually said what ' you could throw any stallion at her and she'd spit out a good one, as he actually rated joncol's bobs return as very poor. I backed the another cliche in limerick based on what he told me and i will do the same tomorrow, all these offspring are rangey/scopey types so maybe seafield has progressed again from PTP run
Report An Mhi March 7, 2010 9:57 AM GMT
On Naas card, one stand out bet at 2's - whatdoyouthink - the form is the best in the race by mile, last 3 runs are miles clear of the rest. 7l of summit meeting and going by RP as preview nights, he thinks this last is a superstar. other winners and placed horses in behind, key race is he beat dun masc by 35l(7l behind silver friend last day) odd in a very impressive leop maiden, 18l off dunguib in a grade 1. This lad is a cert today. drop in trip wont matter as he will sit handy and push on from the corner
Report An Mhi March 7, 2010 10:05 AM GMT
sorry, whodoyouthink is the selection in the 1st, not the other lad!
Report downallstar March 7, 2010 10:20 AM GMT
2.30 - Silver Friend - is shorter than i was hoping though.
3.00 - Zaarito - but couldn't be backing him.
3.30 - Lucky at Last ew @20/1
4.00 - Rare Bob win, Casey Supreme saver.
4.30 - Seeability ew
5.00 - ?
5.30 - Seafield.

Strange Workrider just talking about Angus House at p2p yesterday.Appaently it was the slowest horse in the stable until it moved to WPM when he decided to train it by 4 furlong sprints.Apparently the horse is transformed-so you can forget his p2p form.

To be fair, Dessie basically told the world he would need the run in the paper during the week, no surprise he drifted like he did:

RARE BOB, as short as 12-1 for the Byrne Group Plate Handicap Chase at Cheltenham, was on Tuesday described by trainer Dessie Hughes as unlikely to make the Cheltenham Festival.

Rare Bob also holds an entry for the Ryanair Chase, but Hughes said: "He's been out of sorts and we were only able to get one run into him, so Cheltenham will come too quick."

The eight-year-old features among 17 entries for Sunday's Lucan Racing Leinster National Handicap Chase at Naas, but Hughes has yet to decide whether to run last season's Grade 1-winning novice chaser.

The trainer said:

Quick Synopsis/Ear to the ground

Massive crowd. Tom Ryan will be delighted. Tipper Road car park full before the first race. Never have I seen that in a long time.

Race 1) Whodoyouthink. (5/4) Marvellous come back for Kevin Coleman on his first ride back. An Mhi was right. Class told. Silver friend would have been 2nd with a better jump at the last. Good run on on only his 2nd hurdles outing. Morning price of 15/8 winner not sighted. 5/4 best at the off. Not one bookie going 11/8 at the off.

Race 2) Zaarito. (4/7). Won as expected. Most improved jockey of the season Davy Condon got it really jumping. Morning Price 8/11 not sighted. Not one bookie going 8/13 at the off.

Race 3) Dancing Tornado (12/1). Another winner for that ace tipster Gary O'Brien who recommended 1 pt at 20/1. Talented teenager Adrian Heskin really shone. Fistoulig (9/2jf) made too many mistakes to get competitive.

Race 4) Ballytrim (8/1). Another one for the layers. Not even W P in his Racing Post column really fancied it.

Race 5) Seeability (11/2) This was always travelling best. 11/4 was his best price in running with a mile to go. Great tipping up here lads. Angus House (1/1f) didn't get the run of the race. Martin Ferris got in Ruby's way when he was going to go inside and then again when he attempted to go wide. However he said he would have got 2nd otherwise. W P said he is no world beater. He will try a few more hurdles and then go chasing which will be more his forte.

Race 6) Jack The Bus (5/1) Very well backed in the AM (9/1). Came from last to first to win well to complete a week-end double for Robbie Power.

Race 7) A Fine Young Man (3/1) A very enterprising ride by Champion Amateur Patrick Mullins in making all on this newcomer. The word beforehand was that Snurge gets a lot of slow boats but they keep going. As a result young Patrick made full use of his stamina. Seafield (4/1) ran on well to be second. Some seasoned judges reckon he lay too far out of his ground. Andlau (20/1) prominent all the way kept on for 3rd. Young Paric Roche reckons there is a bumper to be won with him at a stiff track Naas/Navan. Oscars Well (11/10f) was the disappointment of the race. Connections were baffled by this performance.

Asides.

Sign of the Times.

1) Saw Tom Taaffe driving the horse box to the races.

2) Putting the free Sunday Indos into the car after the 3rd race and to see Noel Meade's lady horsebox driver only arriving with the one horse for the day and owned by himself.
