think he has enough loot not to worry about it imo
By:
Thats not the point of this thread, the word pride and personal satisfaction must be an issue for him.
By:
well if charlie haughey and co have been put through the ringer in the tribunals for the misuse of funds, god help frank berry if jp was ever to think about some of the donkeys frank has bought with his magic chequebook lol
By:
Is Berry still there through loyalty or just pure pity. Compared to D. Johnson, they are in Coca Cola League Two.
By:
i hate to see jp/frank berry buying horses out of point to points as it always puts the hex on horses that i think are really good prospects :-(
By:
Mulder i have no interest at all in Pt To Pts, but the situation with these lads is farcical at best. Does Berry actually know the game at all cause after straw bear won the fighting fifth he was so excited in his interview afterwards that he actually thought that the horse was a genunine champion hdle prospect. Personally i feel sorry for the greatest jockey ever born as i think if he could turn back the clock he wouldnt contemplate leaving D.J again. Publican is another embaressment for them along with hearse that is Clew Bay Cove.
By:
If he got Padge Berry to buy them for him, he'd do better for himself.
By:
i don't know whether this is true arteea but an owner in colm murphys told me that jp/frank berry tried to buy brave inca when he was first coming to prominence but that the owners wouldnt sell and so while they were down in the stable they bought clew bay cove instead
re; pt to pts...........it's everyone to their own...........i enjoy them but have been finding the punting side hard as of late.............i'm not gonna drill the old argument into you about all the gold cup winners etc that have come from the pointing ranks so if u don't like them that's your business :-) |
By:
hillofslane...............padge berry was a great man at getting horses ready for many years but practically all the horses in his yard these days are donkeys .............. the only thing i used to find about padges horses that were sold across the water was that they never really fulfilled their potential as they were so well trained up while in berrys duncormick yard.
By:
with regards to straw bear..........maybe i am being a bit unfair to the horse but i thought when he was so comprehensively run over at punchestown last season that he had a long long way to go to win a champion hurdle.............as i say maybe i am being unfair as it was the end of the season for him
By:
True, most of the horses in his yard are donkeys these days, but he doesn't really train seriously nowadays. He still knows a decent horse when he sees one, though.
By:
Well to be honest i have made a nice few quid off the likes of Racing Demon, King Killone, Patches and aztec warrior, but all of those come out of Big Toms. Ive actaully never had a bet at a pt to pt. Im certain they tried to buy the inca, they would try and buy the Taj Mahal if they could. A farcical combination imo. Royaladou could be the latest joke.
By:
it's the real case of stealing the babies candy though isn't it.........when they couldn't get brave inca they couldn't leave without buying what looked a promising sort for novice hurdles back then - clew bay cove....................
i don't think there is any ''could be'' about royaldou being the next big joke ..........he is it already.......thankfully i missed that race at leop the other day as i had to park about a mile and a half from the course ;-) |
By:
hill..........u r right.......padge still has a great eye..............yeah he only seems to be tricking around these days - he sold his farm during the year.............
will be very interesting to see the progress rio bravo makes across the water it's just surprising a man like padge berry bothers dragging around horses like ardynagh and lacken and borris..............perennial puller uppers at best |
By:
Surely you wouldnt have been trading at levels would you. Did you do any good up there for the 4 days.
By:
no i went to limerick on the 27th and leop on the 28th and just took it easy other two days..............i thought he was a bet at evens to be honest as candy girl looked the only strong danger...........i thought he was well worth another chance but having seen the replay and the way he threw in the towel so easy i would not be interested next time
By:
made a nice few euro at lim but lost a small few quid in leop..........no bet at all stephens day but lost a few quid yesterday as was only laying and fancied a right few winners
By:
What did you lay yesterday.
By:
layed mags mullins bumper winner as thought it's only run was ordinary and that it hadn't been out for a long time.............also the fact that cash had gone to leop to ride her other one in the bumper and that that had just run **e..................a bad calculation on my part but in fairness once willie mullins was beaten i had very little running for me..............it's a bad sign when the main danger to your turning in is an iggy madden horse lol.............i knew my faith :-(
By:
Yes Iggy could do with a few Carl Lewis's Now, in the Doldrums bigtime, i followed his Max Time for about 2 years and lost a fortune on him. Wests awake wasnts too bad.

By:
what's the good thing at punchestown if it goes ahead anyway??????????
headsontheground???? studmaster????? kattie leader?????? |
By:
Sorry Mulder but i dont see the logic in Tipping on here. My Motto is YOU PUT YOUR MONEY DOWN AND YOU TAKE YOUR CHANCE. Your a good judge and know the game.
By:
i can appreciate that arteea.................i thought it wasn't the easiest card in the world at punchestown myself and doubtful i will have a bet.........will be going pointing at dromahane so will have my hands full with 10 or 12 races there anyway lol
By:
Yes its not a great card, but what can you do. That Mullins Horse Dueutsland could be place lay material at about levels. A serious nag on the flat. Hughes s should again make the frame in that, nothing special though.
By:
willie has done well with horses off the flat worse than deutshland but i have to say it was a terrible maiden he won (at ayr i think) although he couoldn't have won much easier.............. has a similarish profile (even though a 3yo) to sadlers wings who won first time up here
after the jway ayo won at limerick i would not be gone on laying deutcshland dessie hughes' is very ordinary...........although his form from clonmel looks good after island life he was beaten senseless that day and i really couldn't fancy him tomorrow |
By:
f mulder
sorry to butt in but what do you know of rio bravo? |
By:
hey heather............i think if u look much further down the irish forum u will see your own thread about rio bravo..............i replied to it but was wondering u never got back to it.............
why r u interested........did he catch your eye last time?? ;-) anyway don't mind butting in ...........this isn't an arteea/f mulder love-in thread lol :-) |
By:
basically I know the current and previous connections.
should be racing again very shortly.. |
By:
Yes dessies is slow, but he will beat willies tomoro imo.Right im off, chou for now.
By:
ok best of luck arteea
.........heather........ his former owner gina galvin...........she seems quite a lucky owner but don't know much about her myself although know a few of the lads in padge berrys yard where he used to be............ where u from btw?? by the sound of a couple of your threads it seems like north england.....??? |
By:
yes exactly.
not quite sure what to do with rb - ap schooled him and he was delighted. one more novice hurdle run then we'll suck it and see. ceretainly progressed nicely at CE's. last one gina g sold - well we know what happened to that! |
By:
mmmmm but i don't think we will have to worry about rio bravo winning a sun alliance hurdle lol
i just thought by the way he ran last time that they might have a handiap campaign planned for him..........if this is the case he is hardly a punting proposition next time.............. he will be some horse over fences as he is as quick and clean a jumper as u will see |
By:
Evening Mulder,
I was beginning to like to look of the dessie hughes horse in question and was fancying him as a bet at the forecast 6/1. Then again, onwe must question the wisdom in betting in a 3-y-o hurdle on bottomless ground with so many unknowns in the line up. Elsewhere I'll be against Studmaster, and if Santas Son is fit he'll go very close in the handicap hurdle. |
By:
why could he not mulder?
By:
hi zankle.............btw are u going by that tag or patsy hall now????
i just think dessies looks exposed...........he was beaten a fair way from home last time and i would be disappointed if there wasn't one in there to beat him tomorrow well when i looked at studmaster first i said hmmmmmm but the opposition looks so beatable i would have to fancy him, even though i don't like this thing of a horse trying to make it again over hurdles having had an abortive chase campaign..............at least he has had an outing over hurdles to get him back into gear.......................anyway remember when he was going well last year in big handicaps, they were always on about how he couldn't have the ground bottomless enough..........well he has it tomorrow |
By:
he just hasn't got the instant acceleration for a race like the sun alliance heather...........that's why i'm looking forward to him over fences..............whereas fundamenalist was a horse who had an awful lot of speed who stayed well too, rio bravo is much more of an old fashioned stayer who takes a lot longer to get into top gear
By:
mm.
if you had seen his recent work you may not be thinking that. whilst he's not a sun allaince hurdle horse he could well be quicker than you think. he has certainly surprised recently |
By:
i'm comparing him to fundamentalist...........rio bravo is no slowcoach..........it's just that he gets 3m so well but i have seen him a couple of days just take a while to hit full stride
what r u doing btw? hiding in the bushes on egertons gallops with a pair of binoculars?? lol ;-) anyway good to hear that he is progressing well.........he is a fine stamp of a horse who looks the type to get better and better,,,,,,,,,something which i said earlier in this tread that most padge berry horses do not do............ |
By:
It's pasty hall for good now, even though it's the same account.
I have the same thoughts as you about going back over hurdles after a disappointing look at fences. Studmaster is theoretically badly off at the weights, but the others aren't the most consistent. I'll be taking him but would expect to be able to get him at less than 7/4. I think the Dessie Hughes horse has alright form and a bit of experience which will stand to him in the ground. I 'll be pretty happy to have a few quid at 6/1 tomorrow. Best World v Giolla De is an interesting little race. At fist look I'd be with the Francis Flood gelding but consistency is an issue. Whatever happens I doubt there'll be any 2/1 Best World, and would be Giolla De each way at 4/1+. |
