The contrast of the formidable political powerhouse that was Ann against the prancing wet dork in a black tee and mascara, about to be anointed pm by the great and good of polite society.

Was she naturally weird, or did she cultivate that to gain (more) attention in a similar manner to someone like McCririck?

Can you elaborate on what was weird? Or is it simply your prejudice?

Centrist dad Andy Crapp posing in a tee shirt, caterpillar eyebrows and make up, getting people to film him jogging from a car in budgie smugglers is pretty weird. For someone pretending to be a serious politician. If he was a lycra wearing, midlife crisis challenged bloke, craving attention from younger folk it would be pretty normal. He reminds you of Kevin Spacey's character in American Beauty.

haha, Spacey's character in American Beauty was called Burnham, believe it or not Laugh

Kevin Spacey, in a knockout performance, nails every comic and poignant nuance in the role of Lester Burnham, a suburban Everyman whose life is coming apart. We first meet Lester when he’s jerking off in the shower. “Funny thing is,” he says in voiceover narration, “this is the high point of my day.”

Laugh

It's a terrific movie

I don't think the description of weird is necessarily a negative. Weird can mean strickingly unusual and perhaps that was one of her attractions (as differentdrum alludes) particularly in the world of politicians who can be very formulaic.

from drum it is a criticism, no doubt. he doesn't know anything else. on the day where the passing of the individual was announced, eccentric might have sufficed. or a period of silence.

I don't see anything weird about Ann personally, but famously she was deeply religious. Perhaps that is what irks the critical. She operated in times when women putting men back in their box was pretty rare and certainly not popular, but she never played that card (or any card).

I liked her even though her politics did not always align with mine. She was honest, spoke well and not afraid to speak her mind.

RIP Ms Widdecombe!

Different politics to Dennis. However put Ann & Skinner in the box of believing what they said and would not yield.

Those of us who are only familiar with her in later years will be quite surprised that a Tory MP who was a bit older than her fell in love when he saw her wearing purple hot pants standing on the platform at Oxford station.
Sorry can't give you chapter and verse as I read it in what I believe was called a BOOK before my internet days. It has rather stuck with me.

these three titans of tedium form a triumvirate of t0ssers that are so mind-numbingly dull that as soon as you see them appear your heart sinks, your shoulders sag and your balls ache. ever wonder why your pc suddenly goes into 'sleep' mode for no apparent reason? Because you are looking at a post from one of these 3 plantpots. even inanimate objects yawn when confronted by their drivel
