unless you want to hand over your pay slips from months back, shoe size, weight, sister in laws job....etc, you will be restricted to £100 a month. This is the destruction of online gambling.

The GC are,and always have been, determined to stop gambling and deciding how a certain sector spend their money

This all looks fair enough to me. More reasonable thresholds than the previously touted £250, and some clarity that those thresholds relate to net deposits rather than "losses" which could have meant anything.

There is nothing reasonable about a requirement to disclose personal financial information in order to be granted the right to spend your own money.

That's not what the article says. It says there will be a 24-hour net-deposit threshold of £5000 (to become £1000 in the future) that will trigger a credit search to look for signs of financial distress.

To be required to share financial documents you would need to first cross the threshold, and then go on to fail a soft credit search.

There should be less cause to share financial documents than there is today.

Multi £bn financial institutions can't identify financial distress from a credit report, so exactly how does a bookmaker achieve that.

They don't know what they are doing.

It's akin to trying to solve a jigsaw with one piece.

I am on £100 a month now ( betfair )  They don't want payslips because there are none. Sounds better for other people than was previously proposed.   £5k  to £1k  a big drop though.  When you can still bet thousands in one day at the track.

If you're right jamee1, then it will need a new moniker, as what you have outlined is not an affordability check. Untold amount of people have clean credit reports and no money. Lots of others are rolling in it and can't manage to keep their direct debits up to date. Nothing surprises in the world of 2026.

cider pretending not to be able to read, to try to make his point.

It says "to look for signs of financial distress" not "identify financial distress".

Exactly how does a credit search enable an entity that provides gaming services to 'look for financial distress'?

@ slickster

https://www.grai.ie/news/commencement-of-gambling-regulatory-authority-of-ireland-remote-betting-licences

With the commencement of GRAI licences, licensed operators must now meet strict obligations designed to protect consumers and uphold the integrity of the market. These include age verification requirements to prevent underage gambling, obligations to pay out winnings, safeguards such as a ban on facilitating credit or accepting credit cards and requirements on closing accounts on request. Operators are subject to ongoing compliance monitoring, and the GRAI has powers to investigate operators, enforce compliance, apply significant sanctions, and take action against unlicensed or illegal activity.

Yes second again. A scandalous rule. If you want 2k on you need proof of identity etc. Fair enough. If some old dear has 50cent on her lucky numbers at 4000-1 she collects 2000.50. But incredibly she ain't getting paid until she brings in all her documents. Another example of the wrong people in charge without the ability to see the difference.

The shops come under the GRAI umbrella over the next year, so there will be changes in them.

Where can those who refuse to bend over as we object to a forensic rectal probe, a DNA sample, fingerprints etc. get a bet on in future?
I keep hearing about such sites...but they're never named - I'd rather take a chance and roll the dice with them (as I'm only small-time)
as the only option left is the shop...and I haven't done that for years as we get vigorously

Different jurisdictions dave. I haven't heard anything unless changes are in the offing. Which I doubt. Last I heard from our government was "we have no plans to introduce affordability checks as we consider them too intrusive". Can't argue with that.
Bubbles I'm at it decades. You need to know what you're doing. Only stopped twice by the red mob in many years.
