Over the years I do think Buick throws in the occasional unfathomable ride. He talks well but not sure if he is the brightest star in the sky.

Agree irons, there was a chance at the start of the long sweep for home when he could have eased back around Action but he was keen and I think Buick didn't want him racing in daylight that early, around the final home turn it was three deep back there and he'd have had to give up a stack of ground and momentum then, the gaps came and went up the inner and all that on off effort used him up...that's racing.

Gosden spoke of the perils of being drawn 1 being the off. Taking into the bend that comes up.

Given Ryan’s comments to Trapman where Moore rode was odd. Not just Buick. Look where the winner came!

Well Item was able to do so, and he was right next to Ombudsman if you watch the race again.

Buick's contract is with Owners Godolphin not Trainer Gosden.  Mr Gosden couldnt sack him even if he wanted to.

Moore could have gone anywhere, Keane chose to go there. He’s furthest away from the rail as the photo on the post now shows.

the gaps came up the inner because no one other than buick and moore wanted to be there and moore was only there to try and box buick in for as long as possible , moore had 1st go/option of racing where the 1st and 2nd finished, buick could have stayed behind the winner instead of going up his inner and getting himself on the rail  but he was more interested in following what he thought was his only danger

With hindsight Item has the credentials to win eg stays the distance (Derby), pacesetters went awol and not troubled by the softish going. The principals ran way below potential for differing reasons.

Keane was forced to go wide when the door clos3d in front of him.

Winning time of race was slow by 0.14s, nothing much wrong with the ground for Ombudsman if he had avoided the slow ground on the rail as Rossa had highlighted earlier today.

You’re right Storm, earlier in the year for the Dante it was the reverse, Moore came up the middle on slower ground, whereas Item and Action were nearest the stands rail.

Buick will take a lot of flack but at the same time Moore deserves it too for his positioning.

Last time out Item was tapped for toe, then stayed on well.

River was rated too highly for beating the same horse in the Eclipse 1L more. The French have him very highly rated no doubt to boost their race, the for, is looking dough.

I think Buick is getting criticised a little unfairly.

In the previous race the jockeys did not come up the middle, but stayed on the rail.

Keane on Item, was forced to come wide when the gap he was looking for inside Almaqam closed.

Even in the following race a few jocks tried to come up the inside.

Just had a lovely suppet in a nice italian washed down with a couple of glasses of nice wine back at  rhe hotel looking over the river with a nice cognac thinking how lucky i am to be able to enjoy life.enjoy the rest of the great meeting guys and gals.

So which one is it Delashay? You stated CR has a similar run style to Calandagan "If he can keep tabs when Ombudsman goes then he might be worn down" Which horse might be worn down, just to avoid confusion? In addition you agreed with Mick that Ombudsman has superior acceleration  which muddies the water somewhat but not unusual for you?

As far as the race itself any one of the top 4 in the betting could win but Almaqam only if the going eased considerably, Item has to step up on form to date and not impossible he could. That said Constitution River is as entitled to progress similarly and already has the superior form and given the ratings should beat him.

The big question for me is has Ombudsman got any more improvement at the age of 5 or will he have enough in hand to beat CR anyway? They should almost dead heat if they ran to their rating at the weights, if that is the case then the potential progression is more likely to come from CR and imo that would give him the edge. Likely to be tuned to the minute and hard not to ignore his jockeys comment post Sandown given he rarely eulogises like that unlike the trainer.
