Superb. WAC Chapman really is. 'In many ways your first REAL classic winner although you won the Irish St.Leger'.

Run at Navan was great on the eye. Unreal.

I think she's a very good filly. Irish Oaks next, I'd think, then The ARC possibly.

Fairy nuff shout, Irish SL a classic in name only.

Report Kelly June 5, 2026 4:18 PM BST
Brilliant ride , threaded his way through after Tattenham , from last place initially .  Most of the others did not stay , Thundering on certainly did.
Report stu June 5, 2026 4:18 PM BST
Yep.

Impressive is a slightly overused word in racing - but that one fits the bill for sure.

A good adjective for Mick's ego.

Report MJK June 5, 2026 4:28 PM BST
Fair enough lafs. In name only. So its not a classic then.
Report 1st time poster June 5, 2026 4:30 PM BST
pundits already spent hr,s discussing derby horses handling epsom and there,ll be another 4 hrs,but they never mention oaks horse,s handling the  track or any of the over 100 + horses,2 yr old, handicappers, stake ,group 1 winners who,ll come down the hill before THE DERBY is run
Report DixieDean60 June 5, 2026 4:37 PM BST
Lots of people getting carried away by the winner here, let's see how she gets on later in the season.

It didn't look the greatest of renewals beforehand and there were some that obviously didn't stay and/or act on the ground.
Report Cider June 5, 2026 4:54 PM BST
It's not a real classic. Real classics are restricted to 3yo. There's nothing unreasonable about the comment, unless you take personal offence as an Irish warrior Grin

eye candy to take on in different circumstances was my view also dd

Judge Judy next.
Report stu June 5, 2026 5:16 PM BST
I was impressed by the way it both stayed and showed excellent quickening in the finish. Takes some doing in a race that caused several to weaken and against another that had pulled clear of the field.
If people think that was eye candy, fair enough, but would be very interested to see it run again (and the price)!
Report MJK June 5, 2026 5:19 PM BST
Cider I appreciate you watch for my posts so you can find some fault. As I said if its not a 'real' classic fair enough. Maybe someone should tell the organisers to call it a 'pretend' classic instead.
Report Cider June 5, 2026 5:35 PM BST
Only the jingoistic ones, Mick.
Report Jumper45 June 5, 2026 5:42 PM BST
The Irish St Leger has been open to older horses since 1983. I thought it was a lot sooner, but 43 years ago it was.
Report MJK June 5, 2026 6:05 PM BST
Cider not that I care what you think but my original point was actually re Chapman being Chapman and having to get his dig in first instead of just interviewing the lad. I couldn't care less if the leger was in Japan.
Report uptheirons June 5, 2026 6:16 PM BST
It is only in your mind,MJK.
Most people just want the best horse to win whoever Trains them
Report MJK June 5, 2026 6:21 PM BST

Report MJK June 5, 2026 6:54 PM BST
You seem to be answering something in your own head, not my point about Chapman. Clearly not well.
Report uptheirons June 5, 2026 7:02 PM BST
Ok.
That the Irish St Leger is a classic is a farce
Report MJK June 5, 2026 7:05 PM BST
I would agree. But my original point was that Chapman had no need to get his dig in. Secondly, whether you or I want it to be or not it is.
Report uptheirons June 5, 2026 7:06 PM BST
It was Typical Chapman who picks easy targets to be noticed
Report Jumper45 June 5, 2026 7:40 PM BST
Agree, the Chapman jibe was unnecessary and rude. He could just have left it as the jockey's 2nd classic, and his first at Epsom, which itself is a feat for any jockey, wherever they are from.
Report Cider June 5, 2026 8:25 PM BST
Absolutely daft to find offense in a little joke. Very obvious it's because Mick saw it as a slight against the Irish. Like I said before, he has small person syndrome.
Report MJK June 5, 2026 8:29 PM BST
As usual you creep around looking for my posts to find something to have a go at as is your bigoted view. The stalking would be a compliment if I was gay, but unfortunately for you I'm not. I'm James Garner to your John Inman.
Report Cider June 5, 2026 8:44 PM BST
I don't think I have interacted with you Mick since the Aintree festival. If you post nonsense, I will pick you up on it. However I told you before, if you only want responses that agree with you on a forum, specify it up front when you make your points. Then I will leave you to your own devices.
Report MJK June 5, 2026 9:32 PM BST
Nonsense. You clearly have a grudge and continually stalk. It's clear my postcwas aimed at Chapman but you chose to see otherwise as it suited your agenda.
Report Cider June 5, 2026 10:03 PM BST
Let's say I have a flair for spotting patterns, Mick. And I decided to call out a pattern I observed in your postings. I actually think you are a good egg deep down, and I could easily enjoy a pint with you if I went back home. If I had no time for you, I wouldn't bother engaging with you at all.
Report Kelly June 6, 2026 4:14 AM BST
Modern breeding has tended to concentrate on horses that have speed at the expense of stamina . todays Oaks a prime example where clearly half the field looked incapable of staying more than one and a quarter miles( as evidenced by the run of the race). The Irish Leger was opened to older horses because back then those in charge of the fixture list twigged that there were fewer and fewer horses being bred for stamina on the flat , and they wanted to preserve the race as a proper race instead of a consolation prize for the last "man"standing . The fact that no horse since Nijinsky has won the English Triple Crown is evidence re breeding trends.
Re the Irish Leger , before the older horse participation option change I made a comment to an Irish owner of a decent 3 year old that I thought he should run his horse in the Irish Leger . He dismissed the possibility summarily as he reckoned the horse would not get the trip on the evidence of its runs to date . Somehwere along the line he must have changed his mind , his horse won the Irish Leger later that year , albeit in a fairly non notable race .
Report brandyontherocks June 6, 2026 5:43 AM BST
A finishing percentage of 111% indicates this was a steadily run affair.
So it is surprising to see the field spread out all over the Epsom straight.
It looked a weak Oaks beforehand and it probably was.
As pleasing that performance was on the eye, there is never an upside to supporting a sexy looking winner the next time. Everyone has seen that cosy win and she will be over bet next time as a result.
Report Delashay June 6, 2026 7:19 AM BST
The betting is the same in the Derby today 3 places with high street firms. shameful and you want interest?

6/1 each
PB
JB

Maltese 10/1

14/1
CD
BOB
action

A Egypt 22/1

80/1 and bigger the other 5.

They have crunched the odds and were not getting 16/1 , 25/1, 33/1  and bigger like in the old days.

7 horse crammed in odds lower than 22/1 , don’t look good for the Derby and they are going low expecting a turn over trying to keep those onside.
