doesnt have to be dangerous riding
in all other juridictions if you impede another runner you are placed behind it and as the thing was forced out last place was inevitable, or should have been |
|

The BHA definition of dangerous riding is as follows:
Rider intentionally makes contact with another horse and/or rider resulting in serious interference. Rider intentionally interferes with another horse and/or rider resulting in serious interference. Rider causes serious interference as a result of steering a course or carrying out a manoeuvre when it should have been obvious to the rider that interference would result. Rider intentionally pushes another horse and/or rider off course, including but not limited to through or around the wing of an obstacle, or through or outside the running rail The final point (what happened in today's case?) is considered to be the most serious, with a minimum penalty of 28 days suspension and/or referral to the disciplinary panel. |

stewards playing to the gallery here but they have got it right, and more often than british stewards recently although things have shifted a bit but still not enough
if he had no history its doubtful this would be the outcome, correct though it is problem with these 2 is you believe the worst all the time, even if its just accident or incompetence |

The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference approaching the second last hurdle involving Qaasid, ridden by D.E. Mullins, placed second, Marian Avenue, ridden by P. Byrnes, placed first and Friar Hogan, ridden by S.F. O'Keeffe, carried out, where it appeared that interference occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D.E. Mullins stated that he maintained his line wide off the bend and was deliberately pushed off his line by Marian Avenue and had to take violent action to get back on track to jump the second last hurdle. He further stated that he felt this incident had cost him the winning of the race. P. Byrnes stated that his mount cocked his jaw coming down to the second last hurdle, tried to run out and that he had two hands on the reins trying to keep his mount straight. S.F. O'Keeffe stated that he maintained his outside line throughout the race when he received interference from the inside and was carried out. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that P. Byrnes was in breach of Rule 214.1.(b) in that he had ridden dangerously and as a consequence they disqualified Marian Avenue from first place. Result now reads.
First: Qaasid Second: Hob's Angel Third: Granlahan Fourth: Go Avel Fifth: Celtic Crossing Furthermore having considered his clean record under Rule 214, the Raceday Stewards suspended P. Byrnes for 21 racedays and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee. In arriving in their decision, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that P. Byrnes failed to correct his mount at a point in the race that was in close proximity to the hurdle and as such rode in a way which was far below that of a competent and careful Rider, and where it would be obvious to such a competent and careful Rider that riding in that way was likely to endanger the safety of another Horse or Rider. |

Let's not forget the barrow loads of cash for the horse. It was win at any cost. Even endangering the lives of 2 fellow jockeys and horses. They won't let anything or anybody get in their way of landing a gamble. Disgusting dangerous riding. What's next? Do we have to wait before he seriously injures or kills someone. Should be banned forever.

Slightly over the top Dickster but correct about the Byrnes set up

I like to close the stable door BEFORE the horse bolts bubbles. He literally could have killed either one jockey or horse there. How they're still infesting the game disgusts me.

Prior to the Racing Channels, jockeys were regularly ridden into the wings.
Times change |

By:
to have been found guilty of "deliberate dangerous riding" requires a much stiffer penalty than a 3 week holiday. Would you like to be upsides Byrnes approaching the last in 3 weeks time ?

It's actually not that confusing, since I started the thread, pretty obvious what I thought / wanted ! The betting was a different matter, 4s on was very tight for a very rare DQ. But it was indeed, a rare DQ.

By:
it caused a horse to run out obv which cost it a place..no way imo was it deliberate..but a disq was almost certain..no was was it dangerous..(ie deliberate..imo)

Jacob, the wettest pundit of the lot, who wouldn't usually say anything negative about his former colleagues even said he did it deliberately. As well as the jockey he tried to shove off the course in the actual race.

4s on was very tight for a very rare DQ. But it was indeed, a rare DQ. Don't think it had to be dq'd to lose the race. It clearly caused a lot of interference to the second, who made up so much ground that it wasn't unreasonable to conclude that it would have won, but for the interference. So fptp could have been placed second. |
|
By:
It didn't need to, that was my analysis, with over 1 length winning distance.
|
|
By:
it couldnt have been second as it caused another to run out so dq was the only option
|
|
By:
assuming 1/4 chucked out correct, what price would you have been placed 2nd or placed last?
2/5 & 10/1? |
|
By:
It hinged on whether it was deemed accidental or not, was my interpretation. Which, as happened when he jumped off, is an easier call for stewards and the suits. For a demotion I felt they would need to have deemed it to be more than the usual 'allowed the horse to drift'. In they went for incompetent riding (easily arguable for the jumping off as it happens!). Personally I have a decent ability to detach emotion from betting. Which is why, for example, I was able to put a shed load of money on labour to win the 24 GE. I wanted it to be kicked out but I didn't feel it was an 80% chance, given the winning distance and how far out the incident occurred.

if up to me...
is a merited DQ would have been placed 2nd top end improper riding |
