Aidan would never send a horse to France if he thought it could win the Derby. He probably thinks 10f is it's limit.

Why are you having a go at I possible for highlighting the hype of the media and claiming that his quire is disingenuous?

They’ve been quick to quote this :

Coral reacted by making Constitution River 5-2 second favourite for the Eclipse behind Ombudsman, while Paddy Power halved his Arc odds to 8-1 (from 16).

Prices, prices when never is ever put down as a definite aim!

Really?

What’s he hinting at here?

“We’ll discuss it but I imagine the Lads will take their time with him and he could come back in the autumn.”

Ahh the Champion Stakes!

Thanks guys for sharing your early thoughts.

Andrew as someone who knows French racing you’ll know that they tend to go that bit faster in the Jockey Club to grab a position early.
All the talk about whether River would stay the Derby trip, I’d say he’ll have to from that draw.

Both Moore and O'Brien performed at the height of their powers, but the real star of the show was Constitution River, who recorded the third-fastest time in the race since it was cut in distance 21 years ago. In doing so he ran two and a half metres further than the runner-up and almost four metres further than the trailblazing Montreal.

“He’s the sort of horse who could do whatever you ask him to do. He could drop back to a mile and I think he’d get a mile and a half if you needed him to.

I.e. if you paint scrape on the rail.

Or Breeders Cup Turf because we don’t know that he goes on soft.

Well done Ace & Foyles with Montreal

I was impressed with how he even lasted to fight out the finish given his rousting. I’d written somewhere that I felt he could be a GPDP type and the way he stayed in there he could be.

Think back to the Queens Vase at Ascot last year and how hard Scandinavia was ridden, ok over a longer distance but their fight and courageous staying on when others would down tools is very similar.

Not going to say who you backed Delbert?

I backed Pearl Necklace @ 50/1 & Dollybird @ 28/1 AP

I traded out or greened out as you guys say, I can take that they weren’t good enough, but I dislike the methods employed to gain victory.

I’ve only watched the race once but have noticed something interesting from just seeing the photo after the stalls opened.
What I saw is reflected in the finish.

Those drawn high who were perceived to be at a disadvantage were in fact advantaged by how the race was run.

Result by draw :

15 > >  joint top rated
11 >  > joint top rated
8 -
13 - 37/1
16 - 100/1
6
10
5 - 4th top rated (Gostom)
2 - 5th top rated (Pearled Majesty)
7 - 2nd top rated (Komorebi)
9
3 - 4th top rated (Oxogon)
1 - 3rd top rated (Hankelow)
12
4
14

Why is this? Because those drawn low (which you’d see from the photo) were in a bunch fighting for position along the rail. They weren’t able to use their strides effectively or get into a racing rhythm.

Those in front could stride on whilst the big priced finishers were able to one run down the outside and on the inside past horses who’d had already spent their energy early.

Yes it was clever, but it’s NOT the making of a champion, the bunched finish reflects how they were helped in the running.

What might they write about??

How the perceived high draw was turned on its head as shown by the finish and the placing of those who were fully able to use their strides effectively and efficiently.

One coming along the rail for 4th the other down the outside for a narrow 5th.

If Con River was special, Hawk Mountain would be special too. Two special horses in the same race? What would that make Montreal? He was only about 1l behind Con River. Bering won the same race when it was over 12f.

Didn't see the race live and had no bet. Two things, the race distance was short judging by the early time and the ground was faster than they said it was officially. HRC will always be my favourite trainer but O'Brien is now clearly the greatest of all time.

How about giving how you rate him and his run after having the assistance of his stable mates?

And if name calling is your only forte then stay off the thread and take it elsewhere, intelligent discussion is only welcome here.

Im obviously missing something.

In a 16 runner, 10f race around Chantilly, surely being prominent is the place to be.

All three OBrien horses got themselves in the right place to give themselves the best chance.

It is not as though Montreal and Hawk Mountain got to the front and put the brakes on to allow Constitution River to get in. He had to work his way qcross and get in BEHIND the front two.

Take Montreal and Hawk Mountain out of the race and Constitution River would have been sat on the shoulder of Hankelow and arguably had an easier passage.
By:
Delashay
When: 02 Jun 26 08:27
Brandy you’re right that that was the place to be, you can’t come from the back and win on fast ground there. The difference is he was able to sit going at their pace, the others in behind were actually inconvenienced by their low draws as I tried to show in the final result.

He could have sat in his shoulder (Hank) be he also could have had horses come around him and make him run earlier or hussle him.
He had the smoothest passage possible.

“We were the first three but the fourth and fifth came from near-on last so it felt a well-run race where everything had its opportunity…”

That’s AOB or Moore from the post, the 4th came down the rail the 5th on the outside. They were able to use their strides effectively whereas the others in the pack couldn’t.
By:
Delashay
When: 02 Jun 26 08:38
This illustrates that point :

Mikel Delzangles, meanwhile, saw his two charges finish fifth and sixth – Alam and Dolmalan were the best French performers of the day. “Alam had a very poor barrier draw (16). He doesn’t yet have the experience to push hard from the start, but he finished the race very strongly,” explained the Cantilian trainer. “Dolmalan didn’t get out of his stall very well. He had to fight to hold his position, which cost him a bit in the finish, but he runs well too.”

What he says there is exactly what I’ve been trying to explain. When you fight to hold your place you’re wasting energy, you can’t stride out efficiently.

So it’s no wonder that he was nabbed on the line for 4th by two noses basically.
By:
brandyontherocks
When: 02 Jun 26 08:54
All it shows is that horses off of the pace saved energy and finished strongly.

The front three used energy at the start but were superior enough to still stay on up the straight, in my opinion.

The 4 th and 5th are inside River there.

It shows that being drawn high was an advantage. There’s been doubt about whether he’d stay 1m 4f I said that he’d stay it easy and would have to do so from that draw.

I also said that Montreal could be a GPDP horse, both stay. Let’s not forget that he was talked up falsely earlier in the year as being a dark one for the Derby.

In jumps racing they talk about getting into a rhythm, it’s the same on the flat.

To me it’s no surprise that the pack on the left were at a disadvantage. Too many ran too badly to be true. So you have to ask or look as to why that was.

I’m not denying that they weren’t good enough on the day but I do debate whether they ran to their best and ask could River have done it on his own?

I’ve said that the likes of Treve never needed this assistance and to be a true champion I’d prefer not to see these tactics.
By:

I’ll also say this I’m not sure that Soumi gave everything on Hawk. I’ve watched him for many years and know how he rides in a finish from his style and body language. There appeared to be more left there.
That reminded me of the Oaks last year with the fav being ridden to get the result.

Maybe we’ve seen a champion or maybe we saw a horse use his energy to his best, but let’s not forget the horse who inspired this wide ride, Golden Horn, he too did it on his own.

As a purest I’d of liked to have seen River do the same and put distance on the pack all by himself.

Watching the race a few times, I see no reason why Constitution River would not have won without the other two Ballydoyle runners.
The plan would have been the same, and he had the speed to get into that position.

Thanks for giving your opinion and answering my question Brandy, this is what it should be about.

Let’s not forget that Hawk and River were both top rated going into the race by the French handicapper.

How they raced helped them, whilst others weren’t able to improve on theirs as Montreal did.

Christophe Soumillon received an eight-day ban from the stewards on Tuesday for creating an advantage for Ryan Moore's mount Gstaad, the first string from the Aidan O'Brien yard, in the St James's Palace Stakes.

Doesn’t happen often! (Group 1 winners being sacrificed)
By:

When: 17 Jun 26 19:20
I think Gstaad ought to have been thrown out given:-
1) Moore (Gstaad) was deliberately and professionally injudicious to Loughnane (Bow Echo)
2) Gstaad clearly benefited from the riding of Soumillon (Puerto Rico) on team tactic
3) Puerto Rico injudiciously bumped into Power Blue

Puerto Rico was clearly ridden to benefit Gstaad. As both the jockeys of these two horses incurred suspensions for their professionally injudicious riding both the horses ought to be disqualified too, I firmly believe. This will send a clear message to any future team-tactic riding by connections with more than a runner in a race.

It won’t happen Impossible, I asked at the time would Constitution have won if running on his own. They dictated the race to suit them and they’ll continue to do so.

I don’t see how the pacemakers in the POW today helped the race or pace in any way, except the winner who like last year was held up in last off of a strong gallop.

AOB was deliberately being economical with the truth. My respect for him is at basement. For AOB to come up with such a lame reason was an insult to horseracing supporters and punters. The participation of Puerto Rico was solely to assist Gstaad to win. Thank GOD AOB was not rewarded. Is AOB a Christian?
