group3 in ireland today 9 runners, 8 connected to obriens
, sad to see the racing now , so the great days of the 70s to start of the new century |

It’s nought but a staged gallop but can I say that John?

|
By:
If I’d backed the Derby fav I’d be worried about him running there today!
|
|
By:
I think Coolmore are in for an average season.

Pierre Bonnard, the Derby fav, is on show in The Ballysax at Leopardstown today. I hope he's not going there just to stretch his legs or accommodate one of his stablemates or his cousins from the O'Brien family.
I think it might be. His price of just odds against does not inspire confidence either. Any bookie dangling a carrot or superboost for his admirers? |

I’ve just read Maddy Poyles piece about how AOB trains and brings his horses on excusing the early season defeats on there being a long season ahead.
Defeats for Albert Einstein and Pierre Bonnard could make perfect sense - just ask Dan Skelton Our Weekender columnist with her take on the recent action Maddy Poyle “Disappointing reappearances in the 2,000 Guineas did not stop Auguste Rodin and City Of Troy flourishing into the outstanding colts of their generation, so it would be too early to say Albert Einstein and Pierre Bonnard cannot do the same. O'Brien seems to be increasingly conditioning his horses in this way, presumably to ensure they can see out demanding seasons with the option to travel to Australia, the US and Hong Kong in the winter and potentially the Middle East the following year. His top older horses have been warming up this way for years, taking in but not always winning races like the Alleged and Mooresbridge Stakes en route to the Tattersalls Gold Cup and Prince of Wales's Stakes. For the stayers, there is the Vintage Crop and Saval Beg.” Well this seems all fanciful to me, many of these horses don’t make the travel that’s been described. Most get retired and AoB hasn’t been targeting foreign races at the end of the with any great success, Breeders cup aside. Compare how Graffard campaigned Calandagan last year, the horse started his season in Dubai and finished it in the Japan Cup. Never putting in such dire runs as these so called AoB stars! So why can the Frenchman bring a horse along like that and take in every top race and these “stars” run so badly, excuses, excuses. |

The current gravy wouldn’t last a minute with the late Peter Walwyn and Dick Hern….
Things were different then, and much better.. |

How did AOB manage to smuggle The Lion In Winter for this Listed race at Leopardstwn today (15:37)? Even money. Will he skate it or bomb again?
|
|
By:
He managed to get that fit despite an enter after for the Lockinge! Funny that!
A nice confidence booster!Did you play it Impossible? |
|
By:
No, I was watching Moore at Newmarket. I only noticed it just before the off. I do not think I'd have played. I think a Listed and Gp 2 (at best) is his standard. The expectation of last year was too lofty.
|
|
By:
But, I'll be watching out for Jan Brueghel. The horse was messed with in public in his last race.

Change of plan for Derby favourite as Aidan O'Brien eyes another stunning Chester-Epsom double
I thought it highly odd that he said yesterday that the Italian was to run at Epsom! ![]() He really should button it and keep these sound bites to himself until they are declared. Enter and declare no more talk putting people away beforehand. |
|
By:
Indeed. I think this might have to do with age. Hendo is another who does this regularly. classic. I've never known Sir Cecil ever saying that; a change of target so soon after telling the racing world the horse's next target.
What an unsatisfactory behaviour from the supposedly top trainer of Flat racing. The price one pays as a punter and supporter of horseracing. Hold your antepost bet. |
|
By:
Thank you Impossible, I’m not interested in him even if he goes to Chester, the trainer is being tricky taking in different races this year for his fancied runners, why?
Because he knows he’s being watched and the more carrots he can feed the public the more they can enjoy and profit from it. |
|
By:
I think for him and the Coolmore boys (yes boy!) to persevere with trying to make Albert Einstein (after 2 flops) into a miler is laughable and greedy. I understand a miler is worth more at stud than a sprinter nevertheless, it is not in the interest of the horse and might even be cruel.
|
|
By:
They might think the stiffer track at HQ might suit
|
|
By:
Moore is saying AOB could get into the minds of the horses. Wow! AOB is a horse psychiatrist. Who'd have believed that!
Albert Einstein, stop fighting your trainer. He can "manage" your mind! |

2 weeks before the guiness and lets be honest no one knows really what is running ,
![]() |
|
By:
an open guineas and the field will cut up a bit already on samangan and the varian horse but as said this will cut up and no hard in a few cracks at big odds imo,the greenham winner alparsan did it well but will he get a mile ? i thought the one to take out of the greenham was needle match on only his 2nd run a bit sluggish out of the stalls and still a bit green didnt get the clearest of runs and finished well btn 2 and a quarter lengths was a smart effort for one so inexperienced 50/1 for the guineas and should improve a bundle looking like a mile will suit much better than the 7f of the greenham ,i would certainly have him to reverse the form with the 3 who finished in front of him and have had a few quid ew at the 50s .

You do realise my Titanic reference? You quote another poster after I said basically the same thing about sprinting and breeding two days earlier. Do you know that the last time Chelsea lost five in a row without scoring, the Titantic sunk! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm not sure how anyone can bet on a classic with any degree of confidence anymore. The O'briens (all of them together) come up with surprise after surprise after surprise at ALL levels, but esepcially in the classics. Kinda farcical to be honest, but I'm sure the bookie boys absolutely love it. Yes, I know you can be one on here, but perfect markets with commission aren't the same as the big boys 130% overround. :D .... or the inside O'brien track - God knows who has that - I prmise you, it's not me.

Having put this out not long ago today they’ve supp’d Gasstd, really it’s not on all this story telling and talking crud.
From RTV Last Updated: Sun 19 Apr 2026 Aidan O’Brien has suggested Puerto Rico could now be his number one contender for the Betfred 2000 Guineas, O’Brien’s two other main Guineas hopes are Puerto Rico, who signed off his juvenile campaign with successive Group One wins in France, and Breeders’ Cup hero Gstaad, who like Albert Einstein would need to be supplemented to run at Newmarket at a cost of £30,000. However, O’Brien has hinted he could instead head to ParisLongchamp for the French equivalent, moving Puerto Rico into pole position to run on May 2. “Puerto Rico is there at the moment and obviously Gstaad is there as well. It is very possible that Puerto Rico could go to the Guineas and Gstaad could go to France,” O’Brien added. “Puerto Rico has won his last two races in France and he is a pacey horse. Gstaad has run on lots of different tracks and is a very straightforward horse. “We’re very happy with Puerto Rico. Last year he progressed with every run, we were very happy with the way he wintered and we’re very happy with everything he’s doing at the moment.” Yet again like in the Derby last year you have horses from the same stable trading places in the market because of talk that shouldn’t be reported let alone given print space or air time. . |

MJK • March 29, 2026 1:24 PM BST Think Aiden is a very decent man in general and a great trainer. This horse is clearly a sprinter but they were trying to make him a miler purely for the breeding end, like they try to make non stayers into Derby horses. I'm sure if Aiden wasn't under pressure from Magnier etc he'd run the horses where he thinks they should be running. - - - - - - We differ on that |

By:
Delashay • April 4, 2026 1:29 PM BST
You believe that they try to stretch them, I believe that they mislead punters. - - - - - - They knew Albert was never going to run in the Guineas, like they knew and I pointed out that The Lion In Winter had no hope of staying the Derby distance as they did for Delacroix too. |

Was at it again the man in shades
![]() Aidan O'Brien dark horse scratched from Derby as leading contenders stand their ground author image ![]() Denis Harney Published on 5 May 2026inDerby festival Last updated 13:13, 5 May 2026 Montreal was the shortest priced of those scratched from the Betfred Derby at the latest acceptance stage on Tuesday, while ante-post favourite Benvenuto Cellini is one of 41 entries to stand their ground. After being described as a Derby dark horse by trainer Aidan O'Brien in March, Montreal's price contracted to 20-1 for the Classic, but he was one of seven, including Albert Einstein and Dorset, taken out of the race by O'Brien. Pierre Bonnard, Christmas Day and Hawk Mountain stand their ground for the trainer. Stop keep reporting and telling lies to the public, it’s like listening to the Shamas Health Ministry ![]() |

I agree, elis but it is the height of stupidity to take AOB's statements at face value'
A/P betting doesn't exist for me as I cannot get on even if I wanted to |
