Mark Walsh gets his P.45
By:
Not before time Acey. Average at best. Still havent gotten over him getting Dinoblue beat in the mares.
By:
I must admit i was a massive Walsh fan but Cobden is a more than able replacement.
By:
did cobbden beat walsh on dinoblue, thats the only ?
walsh might not be townsend, danny mullin, kennedy, odonogue,et,etc but as most people agree that irish lads are will ahead of uk jocks, i,d/you,d have to imagine walsh is better than cobbden |
By:
Surprised Walsh has been given the boot though as J.P is renound for his loyalty.

It was expected, but it looks strange on a few levels.
Walsh was clearly struggling for confidence, but he was on board both Fact To File and Inothewayurthinkin last March, and they were probably the two most impressive winners of the meeting. Who is going to ride those horses before May? Walsh was already struggling, you would imagine he is rock bottom right now, particularly as JP doesn't make a habit of sacking people. The appointment of Cobden isn't exactly an endorsement for any jocks making their way up the ladder in Ireland. I don't think Cobden has been riding that well this season. Too often he has appeared lazy at obstacles, and one or two have effectively run away with him. He has no great experience in Ireland, and very limited success. In general his record in the biggest of races in both England and Ireland isn't that great either. Nicholls hasn't had the ammunition, and until recently Cobden hadn't taken that many outside rides. Some people might look at this purely from the idea that he is better than Walsh, but I wouldn't be confident he will come out smelling of roses. A lot more pressure riding better horses on a regular basis. |

By:
For me Cobden is up there with any of the great Jump Jockeys.
By:
Just shows you how useless you really are if you think Cobden is up there with the best.
You really are a clueless lying old fart acey ![]() |
By:
Hope this dosen't mean a big statement coming out re the future of Ditcheat.
![]() |
By:
I told you so, weeks ago, that he would move on, now that Nicholls is on the decline..Which he is....
By:
I take it this all JP horses, in all the countries?
By:
Funny now am sorry for the bloke must have known that was coming. Never had much confidence in him myself. Yes Eng and Ire
By:
I am rarely put off backing a horse because of the jockey, but Harry is up there with the best of the irish jockeys.
By:
Didnt realise that Walsh is turning 40.
He has had a good career. |
By:
I reckon Walsh, who is 40, will retire. I cannot believe Cobden would have got it over Sean Bowen, so one imagines Sean turned it down or wasn't asked (which is bizarre, given the similarity between Bowen and McCoy). Most of the Irish lads probably don't fancy the regular trips to the UK, so Cobden probably ended up top of an ever decreasing shortlist. I maybe wrong, but I can't see it being a successful, lasting relationship.

By:
Daryl Jacob appeared ecstatic on Racing UK this morning over the news of Cobden leaving Ditcheat for the JP jaunt, with not a word of sympathy offered to sacked jock Walsh. Wonder if Jacob's delight is fuelled by a long-held grievance over the savage treatment he suffered as top jock for Roly Poly Nicholls many moons ago?

lol |

By:
Maybe it was instigated by Walsh, not wanting to fly over to England regularly at his age, and requesting to step back? Agree with the comments re Cobden though, would take him over any jockey over here. I take it this is with immediate effect?
By:
ok just seen it starts next season
By:
Harry Cobden is more than a jockey. He is a leading part of Team Ditcheat, a cattle farmer in his own right and in my view unlikely to ride for more than 4 more seasons. He must have been made a very good offer by JP. Another one in the eye for Nico and James Bowen as Henderson trains most of the leading JP horses in England.
By:
Well suited, he loves bridle jocks.Bowen is different class to Cobden.
By:
Yup, second.
By:
2 Million bucks a Year retainer.
![]() |
By:
Even Bowen would admit he couldnay lace Cobden's boots.
By:
if Bowen is different class, why does he not have a top job....? Ollie Murphy is not a top job..
If he is different class surely Nichols will come calling.. |
By:
Only there for cash...no skill needed......only pulling brakes
By:
Nicholls is done....why wood Bowen go there
By:
exactly fw
By:
It suits Bowen to be able to choose most of his rides. Murphy gives him plenty but then he has a lot from Elliott and Crawford in Scotland, Micky Bowen and numerous smaller trainers who will try to get him for a favourite.
By:
Cobby was so driven to win that jockey jackpot last year.....was it 250k. Or 500k.....all he was thinking was Ihe could buy houses and rent them with the cash
By:
Bowen is riding for peanuts for the likes of Elliot.....lots of rides in little races....I think Bowen is a super jockey, but running in 4 grand races every day, with little chance in the championship races is not going to be much fun , year after year imo.
First jockey to Gordon is a different story, only 2 jockeys can turn down JP, Townend and Kennedy, any other jockey would walk through broken glass for the JP retainer. AP must rate Harry over Sean too.....imo |
By:
Bowen wants winners.....ure not going to get many with jp
By:
you dont need hundreds od winners with a big retainer in your hipper and winning chances in the big money races....I just checked how many grade 1s Walsh had for JP....Its a tidy amount.
less rides for money means less toll on your body too. if Bowen is happy riding lots of winners in low grade races, all good i suppose. Thats what made Brian Hughes champion jockey..... ![]() |
By:
*less rides for more money.
By:
Does this mean that Jono Jnr is off the JP Jackdaws runners too?
By:
As good a jockey as Harry is, even he can only ride one horse at a time and at one meeting at a time Aberdonia?
By:
There was talking last year that Mark Walsh was already helping a trainer out with a view to doing it himself when he retired. I would think he told JP he was packing it in at the end of the season.
By:
I suspect you may be right MJK, talk of him being sacked probably wide of the mark and probably part of a longer term plan between himself and JP.
By:
Musical jockeys Zzzzzz has this ever happened before ?
The list is endless tbh….. |
