It's newsworthy of course, as out of all of the Irish jockeys in all of the world, he picks an English one. As did 'the lads' on the flat.

Most would agree to fly back and forth for a nice pension tbh…

Laugh

Surprised that JP has chosen an English rider over an Irish one - that's why I doubted the rumours initially. Having said that, Nicholls appeared resigned when someone questioned him on the topic recently (cannot remember who).

He couldnt have Townend , Kennedy or Danny Mullins to name 3, Cobden next best.

Not a lot of hot pots to compare with Mullins….

A good choice. I hope he gets a chance to ride some of JP's this season too esp in Ireland to be more acquainted with their layout.

Signed up,but after Cheltenham and Aintree…..and a few Irish meetings……

Have you not realised that his travelling will probably be reduced in terms of time on the road? Besides he is only going to travel for big rides, nothing much will change in the day to day running of JP's horses from how it is now.

The Mullins "hoptpots" continue to run very badly.....a layers paradise currently, bar the odd one or two.

Danny Mullins is a great jockey btw.

I really like Danny Mullins, too.

Not sure what his situation is, but always surprised that he doesn't get more opportunities, especially belonging to one of the Irish racing 'dynasties'. Always wonder if his face doesn't quite fit, somehow.

Will he have to ride the ones that are tailed off after 3 obstacles? JP is surprisingly loyal to a lot of very moderate horses so I wonder if Harry gets the option to donate those rides to one of the other loyal riders? JP has run 210 horses in GB and Ireland so far this season!

I'd be more than surprised if Walsh didn't have a say in this bearing in mind the way JP operates,Walsh always a bit underrated the way he sneaks horses into races and never really beats them up.

Walsh a genuine horseman and Cobden is going to have to enjoy swimming with sharks in his new role.

All these top trainers scattered around like confetti with their own stable rider and JP doesn’t trust them…..strange.

Most of them are as good as Cobden, maybe better……apart from the obvious with Nicky the Risen….
