We'll never know if the second could have got up but undeniably stopped from making that challenge; jock seemed to be doing the right things, so didnt seem to be at fault just the horse swerving - i'd give it a DH to be fair but thats not in the stewards rule book!
Report wondersobright December 21, 2025 3:25 PM GMT
prob 1l in front 50yds out when the interference happens
but it is fairly egregious interference

not an easy call imo
Report asparagus December 21, 2025 3:25 PM GMT
should really keep it as was idling and holding the runner up plus the stumble was very close to the line. But wouldn't bet a short price.
Report aberdonia December 21, 2025 3:25 PM GMT
Second would not have won imo without the interference....result should stand with jockey getting a ban
Report howard December 21, 2025 3:25 PM GMT
very hard one to call  can you be sure there was enough distance before the line
Report herrero December 21, 2025 3:25 PM GMT

Report lapsy pa December 21, 2025 3:26 PM GMT
As bad an interference for a long time, not sure it will be changed as think winner would still have won. Close one

stewards being stewards - it could go either way despite the distance of over 1L

Report Gagging December 21, 2025 3:30 PM GMT
Jokey club should allow a DH and share the spoils as sometiems its imposs to be sure, but the second was denied a fair chance due to the first horse swerving for no clear reason, but seemed not delib erate
Report uptheirons December 21, 2025 3:30 PM GMT

Whether the whip is in the correct hand irrelevant for outcome purposes but not for jockey punishment purposes.

AN should get it but probably won't
Report Busyfool December 21, 2025 3:30 PM GMT
If 2nd has been hampered and brings it into doubt it should get it as the winner has caused it whether you think it definitely would have won or not

And the jockeys whip is irrelevant

THE SKY BET FOR THE FANS HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5)

An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line involving the winner, GIRL OF GOLD (IRE), ridden by Ben Bromley, and ANNIE NAIL (IRE), placed second, ridden by Mr Joseph Stevenson. Being a 7Ib Claiming Amateur, Mr Stevenson was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider. The Stewards found the interference had not improved GIRL OF GOLD (IRE)’s placing as the interference occurred very close to the line and despite clipping heels, ANNIE NAIL (IRE) was always being held by GIRL OF GOLD (IRE) to be beaten by 1½ lengths at the line. They therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The interference was found to be accidental in that Bromley was taking reasonable steps to prevent GIRL OF GOLD (IRE) from shifting quickly right-handed.

now we nahs people see things differently but ffs haway man>

ANNIE NAIL (IRE) was always being held by GIRL OF GOLD (IRE) to be beaten by 1½ lengths at the line.

these are the people making decisions in a multi million pound sport.
Report Cider December 21, 2025 9:17 PM GMT
Yes it's obviously irrelevant what the distance was at the line, it's where it would likely have placed without the interference. It's not probable the second would have won otherwise, so they have arrived at the correct outcome.
Report Rico-Dangleflaps December 21, 2025 9:20 PM GMT
it had made 1L up in 10 yds and was still another 15-20yds to go.
Report Cider December 21, 2025 9:29 PM GMT
I don't feel it was probably getting up. And that's the threshold under the rules. The interference cost it any chance of getting up. Perhaps that's where the threshold needs to be.
Report Rico-Dangleflaps December 21, 2025 9:39 PM GMT

ANNIE NAIL (IRE) was always being held by GIRL OF GOLD (IRE) to be beaten by 1½ lengths at the line.

regardless...that is just total fckn nonsense.
Report Cider December 21, 2025 9:46 PM GMT
Yes I agree with that.

There is a flaw in the rules really that the fptp is given the advantage unless the winning distance is tiny. But as in today's example, the interference can be so bad and so late that there's no plausible way that the sufferer could make the winning distance only tiny.
Report Nebs December 21, 2025 10:22 PM GMT
A bit like in cricket, where a computer shows where the ball would have gone and whether or not it would have hit the stumps in lbw decisions, so racing could have a computer that looks at the speed and acceleration/deceleration of the horses and predicts the run to the line without the interference.
Report GLASGOWCALLING December 21, 2025 10:23 PM GMT
Always being held yet  was running on close enough to clip heels before being WIPED out, I never had a bet on the race but It looked like holding a fair chance at the time.
Report 1st time poster December 22, 2025 11:00 AM GMT
the horse swerving had nothing to do with the jock everyone agrees but if jock had just happened to have his been holding whip in his other hand at the time, that gets chucked, don't think the 2nd would ever have gone past even if they,d done another lap ,it had been trying to go past from before the 2nd last down the back
Report uptheirons December 22, 2025 11:10 AM GMT
Centralised Stewarding would solve it in an instant.
Regretably, there is more chance of the Labour Party winning the next General Election than this happening.
Report Cider December 22, 2025 11:12 AM GMT
In this example they applied the rules adequately. It's the rules that are flawed, they place too much emphasis on the winning distance. The winning distance is very often affected by the interference. Pretty perverse really!
Report elise December 22, 2025 11:21 AM GMT
but if jock had just happened to have his been holding whip in his other hand at the time, that gets chucked

no, it just means he's likely getting days off for his poor riding and it doesn't change the question of would the 2nd have got up
Report Big Cat December 26, 2025 12:36 PM GMT
Whip hand is irrelevant these days. Or at least it's not a consideration in the rules. According to the rules. I don't know if it was once specified as a consideration
