I am well aware where he ran last year given that I backed him for the Gold Cup and 'campaigned' throughout the year for him to go down that route. This year is completely different. He is now confirmed as the best horse in the yard, the best the trainer has had, and maybe will ever have. I think you should be 'minding' your biggest asset. I am not sure that running him over the wrong trip, at a time when there is clearly something wrong with the horses, given a strike rate of than 2% over a fair period of time, is 'minding' him. That's not the strike rate of a top 4 stable. If he ends up winning a second Gold Cup, then great, but if this ends up being a winnerless season, then perhaps he might reflect that today's run wasn't the wisest move?

if it worked last yr why would they change it this yr if the horse is in no different a place? trainers are creatures of habit, you said you couldn't see the plusses which says you missed the obvious

Indeed a totally wrong race for him this year. The situation has changed since winning the blue riband race at Cheltenham this year. I understand a public gallop however, there ought to be a race more suitable than this shortie trip.
Or bring him over for a more meaningful one at Cheltenham.

Would you risk laying it at 24/25 DD if you think it doesn't have much chance with stable out of form and distance much too short, 4% profit for a few minutes. Some people might argue that Willie Mullins stable is out of form with just a 15% SR last 2 weeks, only 5 winners from 33 runners all winners long odds on, he's got a few that you'd think would need further now at big prices, but would anyone risk laying them?
