In the Saudi Arabia Masters last night
Two maximum 147 breaks in the same match, at aged 49

Wrong forum etc. I know, but thought it worth bringing to your attention

Second player to do it this season after Jackson Page at Crucible qualifying (he lost the match).

A 147 is not what it once was.

Very hard to say jimnast but there has been a good bit of interest in the game to keep it going, seemingly all about the expense involved in sorting out the drainage.

Personally I'd really like it to survive....Thurles on a Thursday is an institution in Ireland.

I thought the two 9 darters was some achievement but this is on a different level...Recently married and loving his new cue....Ronnie seems happy again which is lovely to see.

Thanks for posting Reg, it would have passed me by, Used to enjoy a game, never got a break over 30 though.

He is on a different planet. I wonder how many times he has got a 147.

He is that good barstool he has turned one down before because the financial reward wasn't enough

Nobody even wanted to buy a Lada, even worse it was in the Snooker capital of the world, Oldham.
I think it was also his only ever 147 in a competitive match, John Spencer was his opponent.

Remembering reading in the 90s when he'd done 147 maximum's in practice he stopped counting so his total must be astronomical. Admittedly the pockets on a lot of the exhibition and practice tables are bigger but still an absolutely phenomenal feat.

That was my initial thought Captain , he's Saudi Arabian now in sporting terms and they've bought him with a mission to take the world championship over there and away from Sheffield , which is why many players now criticize the Crucible for its condition and facilities and they may be correct but probably with a little nudging from O'Sullivan.

He said yesterday the facilities, the food, the rooms, the way they are treated is on a different level. He said he enjoys it so much you want to stay in the tournament as long as possible. Coming from someone who hates the World Championships because of the boredom probably says it all. If he backs the move it will likely happen. Personally I believe the days of it being held at the Crucible are numbered unfortunately.

As a youth keen to learn how to play snooker I bought second hand a book by Joe Davis.  Snooker God of the time.  I was stunned to read the opening line which was simply - and I’m sure my memory serves me correctly - “If you can’t pot don’t play snooker”!  For me at least, it proved to be appropriate because I never did learn to pot consistently.  The game is like any other - if you don’t have a natural balance you’ll never master it.  Anyone agree or otherwise.

I think in fairness it is like most things LH....an element of natural ability mixed in with how much you can practice and improve.
Like golf, should you play once a month with the odd range session you will most likely never improve. Change that to 2 range session a week and 2 rounds of golf and you most likely will.
I play a mate at snooker every fortnight, I don't really see much improvement in the way I play, he plays twice or sometimes 3 times per week and is now beating me comfortably.

I started golf at 18.  Played at least three times a fortnight for a few years and managed to get down to 7.  I never ever threatened to be top class at the game though, however much I tried.  I knew a guy who was absolutely brilliant at the age of 18 finishing runner up in the Scottish amateur.  Miles ahead of me.  He had great natural ability but at his peak he would never have been a match for a top pro.  The gulf between useful and gifted is enormous.  I’m sure that applies to most sports.
It’s good to talk.  Hope you are well.  Love

Agreed mate...A friend of mine played off scratch, did nothing spectacular but did nearly everything well far more consistently than most. The difference between the Pros though is off the charts...they play a completely different game!

Snooker is incredibly difficult. I was pretty good at pool but woeful at snooker. I used to enjoy a game of pool after playing snooker, it seemed even easier after changing table sizes.

I’m sure it was mentioned on here at the time, but what about Gerwyn Price hitting a 147? Pretty special for a none professional. He really needs a few days on a par three to land the hat-trick. Shaun Murphy’s claim as having done it is dismissed!

The famous question.....

What is the most difficult to achieve?

a) 9 darter

b) 147

c) hole in one

It's a brilliant question.

Considering now a and b have been achieved twice in a single game/match does that make the c the answer?

Why have the long jump and triple jump records stood since 1991&1995?
Given the advancements made in honing athletes of all persuations to advanced levels thought previously to be unattainable in other athletic disciplines these marks have remained unbreachable for decades.

9 darter
Hole in one
