Surprised that there’s no mention of this? A sign of desperation, recruiting the brainwashed fresh from the farms that they call schools!
They’ll use their bank cards as ID.

OMG, the queues, err excuse me how do I decide, and where do I sign it. Where is the Palestine candidate. Where is Greta Thunberg. No way I am voting for Trump.

Now all they have to do is ban the over 60's - and finally somebody with some vision and ideas for the future might get elected.

I do not know what to make of this. Some 16 yr olds are intelligent and wise; some the complete opposite and without care. However, one thing is for sure though. Social media will play a key role in the outcome, may I hasten to add.

Total desperation.  They know anyone with any sense doesn't vote these days.   Won't be able to buy half a lager for a few years after. What a fecking mess.

Is there a minimum age to be elected and become an MP? 16 yrs old is not even regarded sufficiently old and matured to drive. What is the minimum age to be admitted to any cinema to watch a movie rated-X?

Bank cards as ID is for everyone I think, to get round the photo ID problem.

Add drinking, smoking and getting a tattoo to the military and marriage.

Legal age of marriage in England and Wales rises to 18
Vulnerable children across England and Wales will be better protected from the damaging impact of forced marriage as the legal age of marriage rises to 18 in England and Wales

“Social media will play a key role in the outcome” impossible

Of course but it could also cause him more headaches! As at the moment there’s a lot of fence sitting on certain issues. Come down on one side to appease it and alienate the other.

they should restrict the franchise to over 30s only

lenin had some ideas and the future for russia wasnt very bright. as did adolph. god spare us from a visionary ideologue

nearer to home corbyn and co. had a few

this votes for children is student-level gesture politics and amounts to gerrymandering. a blatant attempt to swing the electoral maths in labours direction

from what i can gather most 16 year olds struggle to spell 'x'

I think its good move but its clearly in Labours interests (so they think) but data shows the Starminator is most unpopular with the younger cohorts so they obviously have not thought it through fully

I'd like to see everyone is finger-printed and issued with an ID card; possession is legally and  compulsory at all times.  This will ensure the id of everyone is determined super quick and definitively.

I dont understand issue with Id cards personally it makes everything easier having had one in europe. But it wont stop any illegal work migration etc.. which is the argument used.

"illegal work migration" will be greatly minimised and deterred if the employer is automatically and legally deemed responsible and issued with a fine and criminal record; if the employer is also a foreigner deportation must be enforced without any process of appeal. Both offenders could choose between their country of origin or a 3rd country eg Rwanda, Swaziland, etc.

We live with a political system which elects minorities.  It is an unfit for purpose system.
We face legal issues if we don’t register a birth, a marriage, a death etc.
They should make it a legal requirement to vote full stop.
Is there an M.P. anywhere in the land who bagged a majority of the votes?
Tinkering around with it won’t change that.

theres plenty of mps who gained a majority because of the ludicrous system, which is grossly unfair

compulsory voting would end up with the victor getting a potentially massive mandate that wasnt a true reflection. you might get an anti-vote against someone controversial and all those who dont like them load up for someone else they dont hate as much as the other

You miss my point.  Of all the voters in any Constituencies an average of, for arguments sake, about 65% come out to vote.  So, 35% of the electorate don’t vote for whoever wins.  Which, in most cases, guarantees that the “first past the post” winner gains appreciably less of the possible vote available.  He or she is thus a minority.
With a standard three way go of Tory, Labour and Libdems the winner may only get 25% of the potential vote to win the seat.
He, or she, is thus in the minority.

i didnt miss your point. you put it across incorrectly thus; Is there an M.P. anywhere in the land who bagged a majority of the votes?

yes

very rare for an mp to collect a majority of possible votes
By:

I’ve never experienced any M.P. Winning 50% of the possible vote.  Ever.

I believe that we should have a referendum on this. A change to the voting system shouldn’t just be brought in as planned without public discussion or a vote.

It was in their manifesto, so technically they already have a mandate to do it and you've already had the opportunity to vote on it.

Sound logic - if you can't do some of the things you said or intended, you should probably abandon all the other things as well?
