It happened a few years ago at Cartmel, and you could actually see the weight falling out live, in running. Winner 'won' easily, thrown out of course.

Manged to get £6 on at 132 on the run-in when I saw the cloth looked funny.

I can remember many years ago at Huntingdon when I had backed one of Jimmy Fitzgeralds horses called Ibn Majed with John Pegley at 7/4for a monkey.
I was astounded when Hogmany made all and won. Still in a state of shock when an objection by the Clerk of the Scales came to the winner (10 lbs light). I collected and went home after a very rare occasion of good fortune, It has always happened but just luck of the draw |
