Anybody remember a horse called Time Charter

Time Charter (6 April 1979 – 7 July 2005) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who won several major middle-distance races between 1982 and 1984. After winning twice as a two-year-old in 1981, she developed into a classic filly in the following year, finishing second in the 1000 Guineas before winning The Oaks in record time. Later that year she won the Sun Chariot Stakes before beating a field of colts and older horses by seven lengths in the Champion Stakes. As a four-year-old she won England's premier weight-for-age race, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and successfully conceded seven pounds to the outstanding French filly All Along in the Prix Foy. In 1984 she recorded an impressive four length victory in the Coronation Cup and was retired from racing at the end of the year having won nine of her twenty races. She later became a very successful broodmare.

Rode her a few times and lead her up at Newmarket when was beaten by Elektric....An absolute Machine.

Her time of the oaks win was quicker than the derby winner that year who was the brilliant Golden Fleece

I have rode a few good ones when i was in Racing Nashwan Dayjur but Time Charter was the best imho.

No he was gone by the time i got to Candys jimnast.

Time Charter was a terrific mare but would never ever beat Nashwan even with the sex allowance.

..... theoretically speaking that is, given they were racing at same age.

After finishing third over five furlongs on her racecourse debut, Time Charter won a six furlong race at Leicester Racecourse in July. In September she carried top weight of 133 pounds in a nursery handicap over seven furlongs at Goodwood Racecourse and won by three-quarters of a length from Lamlash. On her final appearance of the season she finished seventh when carrying top weight in another nursery handicap at Lingfield Park Racecourse in October.[4]

Philip Waldron rode Time Charter as a 2yo, but he gave up the job as Candy's jockey the following season to accept a retainer with Esal Commodities. He rode their Tender KIng to be 2nd in the Greenham, and afterwards said he thought Candy's Wind And Wuthering, who he'd ridden as a 2yo, would beat him in the 2000gns. He was right (they finished 2nd and 3rd), but Tender King's trainer, John Sutcliffe, didn't like hearing it and sacked him. Candy would have been happy to have had Waldron back riding Wind And Wuthering in the Guineas but he'd already booked Steve Cauthen. He got the mount back for the Irish 2000, went off fav, but was unplaced (Tender King was 2nd).

Strangely enough, the Lingfield nursery in which Time Charter was unplaced in her final race as a 2yo was the John Sutcliffe Nursery. It was run on heavy ground.

Very good filly and mare. R Barnett was a top owner/ breeder back in the day.

TC was a fantastic racemare, arguably her best performance was beating Kalaglow 7L in the champion stakes. Started her 5yo campaign by winning the Coronation Stakes with ease but the yard wasn’t right for much of that year.
She won the King George on my 18th birthday. I worked at Ascot as casual raceday staff in those days and had my two days wages on her. Probably still my best racing memory to this day.

Doubt he saw Time Charter at the bookies, they didn’t show horse racing when this one was running..

Mrs E M Roberts  whose brothers name Time Charter ran under lives here in Jersey, she is a brilliant supporter off Jersey horse racing.Has owned many other good horses and the colours are prominent often on TV.

Yes i knew John very well Linksman he was a brilliant Head Lad..And yes Mac Procter was there he was the main man.

Joe Mercer was a good jockey but poor ride when beat by Sadlers Wells ( eclipse )

I don't think it was Joe's fault she got beat in the Eclipse. She was drawn one off the rail and was stuck on the rail throughout, and there was nothing he could do. I watched this on the TV at Haydock races and was willing her to get out, but she never saw daylight until it was too late. She was full of running throughout the race. Sadler's Wells just held her at the line.

That's ok jim. If I hadn't seen Howard's post, I wouldn't have been sure whether it was Solford or Sadler's Wells. I think I watched both races on the same TV at Haydock.

Funnily enough ged I’ve watched many eclipse at haydock I remember watching mtoto at haydock also on the tv that afternoon was a young German girl playing in the Wimbledon final she got beat but I had a feeling she would be back another day she did many times.

It’s a long time since we had a really good eclipse I think this years has the potential of those back in the 80s
