pre-sentencing reports mean excuses for appalling behaviour and pleas not to lock them up from the probation mob and social services

they never report to the court that they are lawless anti-social low life who are a menace to society and have contempt for the law and others in society so lock em up

... Think they said 10yrs on the News Elise, my guess would be circa 2 yrs.

I can see the media interest going against them as well as the pathetic NG pleas.

10 yrs seems high but i guess there's been so much media on this they might get a higher term, plus they pleaded not guilty and wasted all the court time, s'pose they serve 5, pair of idiots

The judge, Mrs Justice Lambert, said she would pass sentence on 15 July, by which time pre-sentence reports would be ready. Remanding both men into custody she said they could face “a lengthy period” in jail.

Carruthers, a mechanic living in a caravan in Kirkbride, said he was not at the site of the crime. His barrister, Andrew Gurney, said it made no sense for a man to be “gallivanting around the national park cutting down Sycamore Gap” just five days after his partner had left hospital with their newborn baby.

Quite.

As far as I am concerned it is an absolute farce now much media time has been wasted on this incident. The BBC trolls reported that it was known (the tree) throughout the world.  How had I never heard of it before then?
It's only a tree ffs. Yes it is regrettable that it was destroyed by a pair of witless vandals and it is sad that no-one will ever savings able to propose under it.
So what?
The Southport savage poured boiling hot water over a prison warder the other day, probably with lasting damage, both physical and mental, to the victim.
Which crime is more heinous? No brainer for me.
It is regrettable the tree was chopped down but no more than that.  Surely?!

The prison system "asks for it "   This is the second such incident in a few weeks.  These guys shouldn't be anywhere near kitchens or boiling water/oil .  Lets have criminal damage value 500k+ carried out all over the place ?   Lets' have tv masts chopped down and no tv for regions?  Oh it's alright because you don't live in the area and have never heard of it. The sentence handed to these cretins will tell you how serious it was. An example needs to made of them.

The woke blob have taken over, hold all the power and face none of the potential consequences. Hence corrupt legal decisions, mandate to go easy on 'minorities', treat prison inmates like guests of a hotel, allow schiztos and fanatics to live in the 'community' avoiding their drugs if they don't fancy taking them, allowing evil dangerous killers out on parole after completing a fraction of the sentence.

An MP wants a decision to move a prisoner, convicted of gouging his ex-partner's eyes out, to an open prison to be reviewed.

Andrew George, Liberal Democrat MP for St Ives, said a decision to move Shane Jenkin out of a closed prison was "totally unacceptable" and he would be writing to Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood.

Jenkin, 45, of Sea Lane, Hayle, in Cornwall was jailed for life with a minimum term of six years in 2012 after he blinded Tina Nash while holding her hostage for 12 hours in April 2011.

A Ministry of Justice (MoJ) spokesperson said "robust risk assessments" would have been carried out before moving Jenkin to an open prison.

Jenkin, who admitted grievous bodily harm, also strangled Ms Nash and broke her nose and jaw, and gouged her eyes out while holding her hostage.

ffs, this kk**** should never see the light of day again. literally

I didn't say it was alright.  lol.  I said it has been grossly over-sentimentalised by the woke media and the ever-growing battalions of brain-washed wokes, like you howard.
It is a tree.  A tree.  One tree.  A tree which means absolutely nothing to the ordinary citizens of this country who struggle to make ends meet, feed and clothe their kids, keep sheriff officers from their doors even though they have jobs.
It is a tree and, presumably you are a tree hugger of monstrous sanctimony and little common sense.
I repeat it is very regrettable it has been vandalised - whether I live nearby to it or not.
Lol.
