Rule 1 when there a race with a slow pace - Do NOT sit out the back. Shoemark sat too far off the pace and should have won. If I was J Gosden i'd be livid with this 0.5 wit

Seemed to sit there going well while others were pushing .My first thought is he should have won , but will resrve judgement to see what the I Q data says.
definitely seemed to be going best 2 furlongs out but Buick is a master of keeping some up his sleeve. I Was on Jonquil a/p and would have backed him today if he had been allowed to run by Juddmonte. No bet race today.
He is way below the top rank of jockeys. He will not last long.
He was on the winner's tail 2f out but got done for pace down into the dip and that's where the race was lost, not jockey error imo.

Shoemark didnt start riding until Buick was in the full drive, Gosden clearly unhappy w2ith the ride after the race and has every justification because on this ground the horse took 100 yards to get going. A poorly judged ride cost it the race
The horse took an age to pick up after cruising and the race was lost going into the dip
Up with pace and front rank ..not pulling his head off have the race he wins 2 lengths minimum... never had a turn of pace ... obvious even to a clown like weaver that need to be up in the van and even said it pre race ...awful awful ride ...idiotic ..if trainers orders also idiotic... if not his orders we ll know pretty soon as wont see skidmark with him long imv...

The usual rubbish here when a horse finishes well. "Should have kept closer to the pace", "should have made his effort earlier" etc. Nonsense. The second was a length or less behind the winner for the first 5 furlongs. At the 2 furlong marker the winner quickened quite markedly in a way that none of the other runners could match. That took him into lead he was never going to lose. Shoemark was never going to catch him. Not any jocker error. The error in the race was probably Barzalona: did'nt seem to ride out for second.

Clearly a very poor ride, even Gosden who never slags his jockeys was upset enough to condemn the ride. Time to move on and put the ride behind us.

in craven which was a slower race it was last 3f out..cruised closer and quickened to win going away..nothing different today where it didnt quicken going into the dip..it was close enough if good enough..wants 10f.

Craven was a race with far less depth so the jockey has to be aware that off a slow pace he needs to be closer.
Even the trainer called it that Buick got first run and he was caught too far back.

if the horse wants 10 furlongs why did he hold it out the back
If you can't see that he waited too long whilst Buick went for home first then you are watching the wrong race. This was a Guineas on fast ground. You use the dip to get your speed up. Buick started pushing at least half a furlong before Shoemark. Gradually built up the revs before fully going for it. Shoemark sat still before expecting push button acceleration half way down the dip. The wrong place to expect it on any horse but particularly a horse that is going to stay further. You might be able to do that on a stiff track like ascot but at newmarket horses get away from you. It was simply a poor ride as if he'd been fully aware he wins by a length, maybe two.
Like i said a couple of inches on the other side that was the coolest ride you will ever see....I can see why he is getting stick though because it didnay work out fur him.

Sparrygus what are you watching? 2f out they are FOG and Ruling Court are level,both on the snaff..they were both ridden at the same time...Ruling Court quickened,FOG didnt,it was even more apparent on the drone,FOG wasnt even going forward from just inside the the last 2f till it hit the rising ground,it laid it and had a big lean on late..it simply got outpaced at a crucial time.

Sorry, Mr Cecil. No retractions. Rule number 1 for a jockey who is accused of a less than 100% ride (not many employees are expected to perform at this level of perfection): if it is suggested that you might have done better, do not say "I did nothing wrong". Wasn't beaten a short head (which might genuinely suggest he could have done better).
Like i said a couple of inches the other way and it was agreat ride....He did get it wrong im afraid but only just and he really should have Won.Anybody that thinks the best Horse Won has no clue about Horseracing.....And i am Shoemarks number 1 fan.
Time will tell which is the better horse, if they meet again I wouldn't be backing FOG to beat yesterday's winner, I think he is a really decent horse that hasn't got the attention it deserves.
