Would think he will run in the GN.He has always looked like an ideal GN type and this was the aim all season. The Gold Cup was an after thought. He is some horse now and could win more Gold Cups but off this mark he could win a grand national in third gear if he can avoid trouble in running.

Punchestown under consideration as well as National for Inothewayurthinkin as favourite backers face nervous wait
Inothewayurthinkin (right): is red-hot favourite for the Grand National Inothewayurthinkin leads Galopin Des Champs over the last in the Gold Cup Credit: Sportsfile via Getty Images Inothewayurthinkin appears likely to run again this season but his Randox Grand National backers are set for a nervous wait, with the Ladbrokes-sponsored Punchestown Gold Cup looking a serious alternative. Gavin Cromwell told the Racing Post on Sunday that the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner had emerged in fine form after dethroning Galopin Des Champs last Friday, and said he does not see why the seven-year-old wouldn't be seen again before the campaign draws to a close. Inothewayurthinkin's revised official rating is likely to be in the region of a stone higher than the 160 he was awarded when the National weights were revealed last month, making Aintree an obvious temptation for Cromwell and owner JP McManus. But the gap between the Gold Cup and the National is 22 days, whereas Cromwell would have an extra three and a half weeks to prepare Inothewayurthinkin for a potential rematch with Galopin Des Champs at Punchestown on April 30. "I haven't spoken to JP or Frank [Berry, racing manager] about it yet so we'll see, but I don't see why he won't run again this season," said Cromwell. "If he does, I'm not sure where it will be, but Aintree or Punchestown would be the two obvious options. CHELTENHAM, ENGLAND - MARCH 14: Winning jockey Mark Walsh (r) poses in the winners enclosure alongside owner JP McManus (c) and trainer Gavin Cromwell (l) following the Gold Cup victory with Inothewayurthinkin in the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase during day four of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse on March 14, 2025 in Cheltenham, England. (Photo by Michael Steele (Getty Images) Gavin Cromwell, JP McManus and Mark Walsh after Inothewayurthinkin's win in the Gold Cup Credit: Michael Steele (Getty Images) "We'll let the dust settle and discuss it. It's a question of whether we stay on the championship route and go for the Punchestown Gold Cup or go for the Grand National. He's in good form and has come out of the race well." Inothewayurthinkin is a best-priced 4-1 with Paddy Power and Betfair Sportsbook for the National, and if sent to Aintree would likely go off one of the shortest-priced favourites in the history of the race. Cromwell and his team have worked hard to improve how Inothewayurthinkin has jumped through the course of this season, and the trainer has expressed fears in the past that the hustle and bustle of a 34-runner National could undo some of that work. |

The GN is no longer the gruelling test it once was. Good prize money and a bit of history (not forgetting Golden Miller) will be big pulls if the horse is fine.
|
|
By:
He's a Gold Cup winner. He's only 7, and he'd run in another 2/3 Gold Cup, if sound and capable. I'd skip this year. Next year esp if things do not go according to plan.
|
|
By:
Not sure why people keep referring to the exploits of Golden Miller.
The Gold Cup was just a Grand National trial in those days, not the big race it is now. Personally, if the horse comes out of his last race well, then he has to take his chance at Aintree. |

The right decision and for me pretty much an inevitable one. Hard to believe so many on this thread thought there was any chance of it happening. Glad they haven't wasted too much time in announcing it.
Bookmakers pocketed a nice bit of ante-post money. Normally I would be sympathetic towards backers, but not in this case. They didn't understand the jumping issues, clearly misjudged the ability of the horse, and didn't listen to Cromwell who was never keen on going for the race. Plus ignoring the owner's multiple entries. |
|
By:
pretty obvious straight after gold cup. Cromwell has 3 fancied others JP 4 or more.
|
|
By:
Agreed good decision and well handled by Crowell, JP and Berry.
Got to the decision quickly and feel its the right thing for the horse. Hope they're rewarded and he stays sound and keeps putting in that kind of performance as I know there is people talking of GDC not running to form, but what he did in the Gold Cup was pretty breath taking. ....They can't supplement him again though can they??? ![]() |
|
By:
cromwell didn't look at all keen to run at aintree & I'd say he's got fair amount of sway with frank & jp
clear as day is long that they have a lot of faith in cromwell fully merited |

Yes a tremendous performance in the GC , but that leads to the Question of its previous Runs , So I would not be Shouting the connections names from the roof tops ,it has improved a stone and a half
on all known form it could not Beat Champs |

Bluestocking was put in the Arc late on. |

Most surprising thing to me ( in hindsight ) is that there was anything in the lay box considering everyone seems to now know it was never going to Aintree , thought all the apparent free money would have been gobbled up by fellow forumites.

That's decent of JP to put the horse's supporters out of their misery. It's game on for the rest. I did not make a penny for his non-participation.

We'd better all switch to Iroko now. that's the one they've been messing about with the most after this one.
